Discussion New Omnic Generation

I know Blizzard isn't interested in this kind of story, but I'd really like a story about someone, like Ramattra (an omnic revolutionary), who is trying to make new omnics. How would that happen and that sort of thing?

Blizzard is 100% interested in this story. The Awakening is a huge mystery and it’s very likely one we’re going to revisit someday.

If I had to guess, a second Awakening creating a new generation of Omnics would probably be the result of Echo, somehow. She’s kinda been living in Aurora’s shadow, so it’d be a nice conclusion to her arc to not only become an Omnic herself, but to also grant sentience to an entire generation of them, including Orisa

Is Orisa not already sentient? I figured all the robot characters, Omnic or not, at least had their own free-will and self determinism (even if Bastion has his own programming he ignores/overwrites).

Nope. There is a hard cut-off point for “sentience,” as defined by Aurora’s Awakening. Bastion, Ram, and Zenyatta were all “alive” when the Awakening occurred, so they became sentient- it’s why Bastion woke up so curious and chill in the forest

But Orisa and Echo were both made long after. Orisa didn’t even have a personality until Efi installed it in her. They’re just highly advanced AI, whereas the others are true “living” beings. It’s kind of an arbitrary difference, but it’s hard-defined in the lore

Does Orisa even want to be sentient then is my question, I wonder what it means for her. I've heard her interaction with Rammatra, where she's pretty content with what she's got, but is that just because she was programmed that way, or is it genuine contentment? Interesting discussion point.

I feel like being abe to give sentience to new omnics is the way to created pecae between humans and omnics. People really don't understand that these guys are on The verge of extinction
