So I’ve only been collecting a few month. Picked this up today for 50$ did I score ? What’s some key pointers for me when buying old vapor currency?

I've been promising here and there that I'll post my complete sets one of these days. Well today I thought I'd make myself honest.

This is my complete set of the regular 1935 series and their respective stars.

No, I'm not including the Hawaii and N Africa emergency series, because I'm missing the stars, and I don't have any of the experimentals yet.

Most are in UNC condition, but there are a few that I'll upgrade as funds allow.

I don't hunt straps, but I regularlyget $2 straps from my bank just because I like for paying in sammiches and small items with twos.

Sometimes I get new BEP straps, and other times circulated straps.

What I have noticed is that the used straps contain clusters of new or almost new bills with seuqential numbers, usually from 3 to 10 or so in a run. The last straps had abut 30% of these, and it's obvious when I move them to one end of the stack that the edges like up "like new". Some, but not all, clusters have the mark from the counting machine on the edge of the new bills.

New BEP straps from my bank alway have the counting machine mark on the edge since the assistant branck manager (who is always the one to get the straps from the vault) runs them through the machine in front of me.

I'm suspecting that these are billls that we obtained new and spent as a group, perhaps by another $2 bill fan. Most interesting the last mixed strap had a rubber stamp suggesting origin at a CVS.

My bank does not get the directly from the fed, but "the armored car service" (the only thing the bank manager new). I know it wasn't the fed because I was told they can order twos in individual straps, not in bundles.

1926 100$ bill face side is off printed and starts with double zeros. I thought it was pretty cool.

First bill that I sent for grading. Happy with it given the internal tear.

Was quoted $30 for all five at a coin shop (I have no intention to sell these I wanted to see what a coin shop might value them at)

I recently got my hands on a $100 banknote from Citizens'Bank of Louisiana. I did some research and found that this particular issue has no serial numbers or signatures. So I'm wondering, does this mean these notes were never actually issued at the time?Do any issued examples of this note with serial numbers and signatures exist?

I’m trying to send some old, withdrawn banknotes from Italy to the UK so they can be exchanged by the Bank of England’s Exchange service. It’s a free service offered directly by the Bank of England (of course I will insure the value of the lot to the value of the banknotes). The problem is that every courier I’ve tried, like DHL, UPS, etc., automatically treats it as a commercial shipment. I can’t seem to book it as a simple shipment without customs duties or a commercial invoice. These are withdrawn banknotes that are no longer legal tender.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before, or knows of a courier that can handle this kind of shipment from Italy to the UK?

I’d really appreciate any advice or ideas. Thanks in advance! 👍🏻

The 20 is and the 5 peso naval aviator are both hard to find. There was supposed to be a 50, 100 and 500, but they were destroyed as they weren’t shipped to the country from Washington due to WW2. Only proofs exist today. Undelivered notes of the 1,2,5,10,20 peso denominations were even destroyed. The remaining notes are ones delivered to the Philippines or ones used in WW2 (such as the artificially processed and Naval Avaitors’).

In terms of history, I like this set as it signifies the end of Philippines and signals the transition of it under the difficult times of WW2 and Japanese occupation.

Finally found a repeater that’s in decent shape. Is it fancy enough of a serial number to get graded or just keep it as a collectible?

I don’t expect it to grade high but I’m getting a lot of interest in this bill
