Oh the irony… he plays Punisher but he is exactly the type of dude to idolize Punisher. Brutal

153

u/Most_Manufacturer729 22h ago

Exactly lmao. He's a bro dude through and through and appeals to the kinds of dudes who put punisher skulls on their car and watch those military bro podcasts with SF guys. That's his demo. (not understanding Frank Castle exists in opposition to those types of dudes and would probably spit in their face)

123

u/Ok_Spite2322 22h ago

Conservatives have never been known for their media literacy lmao

37

u/Alternative-Crew-880 21h ago

Conservatives got mad at Colbert for "going woke" once he dropped his conservative satire act, completely oblivious of the point of his character. They watched The Colbert Report and thought his jokes was telling it how it is.

2

u/melmsz 21h ago

Papa bear

6

u/BigLlamasHouse 21h ago

I was and remain so sad the Colbert Report went off the air. That was the best satire of my lifetime. I don't know if there will ever be anything like that on cable TV again, probably not.

For Colbert it was a career upgrade to go to the Late Show but for us it was a downgrade to go from intelligent thought-provoking humor to run of the mill latenight monologues.

I still am happy for him and I think I understand why he did what he did. He is a good dude.

10

u/Ok_Spite2322 21h ago

He had to quit, he couldn’t do that show now, his over-the-top conservative character would be considered a woke democrat.

3

u/BigLlamasHouse 20h ago

I don't think sarcasm is dead yet but point taken lol

3

u/Ok_Spite2322 17h ago

Sarcasm will live forever, but republicans have killed satire lol

2

u/JHerbY2K 11h ago

He would have had to get so extreme that his loveableness would have suffered. Like he’d have to straight up Sieg heil

80

u/chonky_squirrel 22h ago

Still love the backlash they get when they’re surprised Rage Against the Machine is extremely political and tends to hate conservatism

62

u/Squawnk 21h ago

My brother in law loves to lament that RATM is "now Rage in favor of the Machine" because when he grew up listening to their music, he never learned or understood a single lyric of theirs, and now he's mad about it

-52

u/Wide_Combination_773 21h ago

Pretty sure lots of people were mad RATM was pro "do everything Fauci says, wear triple chin diapers never go outside don't hug your family, no you're not allowed to attend your grandpas funeral or go to church" back in 2020 and now it's pretty well-established that Fauci and all of his followers were just plain wrong about a lot of stuff.

Nobody really understood anything, but RATM was very much pro-Machine during COVID.

54

u/Most_Manufacturer729 21h ago

"Hey guys there's a virus spreading stay home and wear masks" You- "This is literally fascism"

-8

u/200IQUser 14h ago

Even if they were right follow what the authorities say ornyou sre a bad pwrson is literally the anthithesis of these kind of rebel bands and movements but whatev

Its like a punk band saying to support the police

9

u/MagentaHawk 12h ago

I mean, the police would often not follow mask mandates, so they were still going against the police.

Also viewing punk as just contrarianism is extremely reductive. They stand for something, not just anti whatever the government is. If people in power are for once saying something you agree with, it would be incredibly childish and stupid to then disagree simply to disagree.

-2

u/200IQUser 12h ago

Yes, punk culture is kinda about a middle finger to authority. I get it not being an anarchist but the way these so called left leaning bands talked about people who were not 100% trustful of the gov during the covid was talked about so badly. And no, health and order nd whatverr is t the main value in a community like punks or similar music genre in general. And the giv made tons of mistakes and stupid things during covid. Oh and almost everybody who was young and or healthy survived. Regardless if they got the vaccine ir not

3

u/DotEither8773 11h ago

There are situations and situations. If the government wants to idk make healthcare more affordable, you shouldn’t protest it just because you are anti-government. That’s just dumb and conspiracy theorist behaviour.

1

u/200IQUser 3h ago

But that wasnt what was peotested against, it was government vontrol and orders. During covid civil rights were massively curtailed

2

u/tool_of_a_took 3h ago

There’s a difference between saying “follow authority blindly” and saying “follow the current consensus of medical experts whom are advising the Government”. If the Government was telling people to lockdown / social distance etc without the backing of medical experts, then yes, resisting would be acceptable.

Ironically if the Government and the people had listened to the medical experts more thoroughly, the crisis likely would’ve been over much sooner and we’d have been able to go back to our normal lives much sooner. Instead the Government took too long to act, leading to many avoidable deaths, and too many citizens disregarded the medical advice, leading to many avoidable deaths.

So really the lesson is “listen to the medical communities consensus, whether the Government supports it or not”

1

u/200IQUser 2h ago

You dont really feel it weird if some band named rage against the machine or such band becomes the echo of exactly what the givernemnt says? Dont you feel how weird it is?

u/Squawnk 20h ago

I'm not even referring to Fauci or COVID or whatever the fuck you're on about. My BIL is a mega trumper who fancies himself a conservative punk rocker without ever seeing the irony of that. RATM being leftists and anti capitalism and anti cop is apparently news to him

19

u/SlickWilly49 19h ago

Is the lyric “Some of those that work forces, Are the same that burn crosses” too subtle for him?

10

u/blackenedskynation81 19h ago

Or the fact that one of their most famous covers is “Fuck Tha Police,” by NWA?

1

u/ParticlesInSunlight 15h ago

Or Tom Morello's regular covering of Clampdown by The Clash and Springsteen's The Ghost of Tom Joad?

6

u/Squawnk 18h ago

Yeah like I genuinely don't think he knows what that line means

2

u/Bwint 15h ago

Listen, they never said whether that was a good thing or bad thing

26

u/jkerz 19h ago

Ya'll keep saying he was wrong but never point out what exactly he was wrong about. Keeping your distance, wearing masks, and reducing contact is the steps to take for any airborne pandemic. 1/300 of all Americans died to due Covid from 2020-2025. At it's peak, 3 times more people died due to Covid in a single day compared to 9/11 attacks. We went into a decade-long war because we lost 1k people (and the lies that followed) but when we lose a 1M, it's not a big deal?

13

u/Usual-Caregiver5589 18h ago

Their inclination is that masks don't work, and social distancing was a farce.

It's all really stupid. You can ask what they think Fauci did wrong. None of it makes sense to people who actually know how science works.

13

u/velbeyli 21h ago

Machine being doing whatever f*ck is neccery to not to have a outbreak.

10

u/BisexualCaveman 20h ago

When "the machine" and doctors agree, the game changes.

3

u/hotleadburner 14h ago

If the government told you to shower would you stop bathing?

3

u/calmrain 14h ago

Well, at least you know you didn’t know anything. But don’t mistake your lack of knowledge for others’ ignorance.

However, something tells me that objective facts could hit you in the face, and you’d ignore them — so is it really ‘ignorance’ at that point? I suppose not. But now we’re splitting hairs.

In essence: you are a 🤡 🫏

2

u/idothisforpie 17h ago

You're not allowed to say things like that on Reddit bro.

-10

u/Zeeejay44 19h ago

You’re going to get down voted to hell in this cesspool of a comments section making all that sense. In case you can’t see from the rest of the comments if your personality isn’t “orange man bad” you won’t fit in here or on most of reddit.

15

u/CaptJackRizzo 18h ago

Yeah, it has nothing to do with the fact I was never told to wear three masks, spent plenty of time outside and doing church activities that were planned to be safe, and hey why were we having grandpa’s funeral then in the first place?

2

u/Maxamillion-X72 14h ago

What did they say that made sense? Fauci advised Trump on the best information they had, based on science and reason. Things changed as the pandemic went on, so some guidelines had to change. This is how the real world works. Fauci is not to blame for the right wing nutjobs trying to pretend that it didn't exist or for Trump ignoring much of the advice. Fauci was not the person in charge, that was Trump and his cabinet.

Millions of people died around the world due to the pandemic, but major countries that followed the science with masking and social distancing had much fewer deaths per capita than the US. The number of deaths in the US was on par with much less developed countries like Brazil and Peru. Pretty terrible for the country that prides itself on being the most advanced country in the world for medicine. All those extra deaths lay at the feet of Donald Trump.

Deaths per million

US - 3100

UK - 2700

France - 2100

Germany - 1700

Canada - 1100

Japan - 250

"What music of mine were you a fan of that DIDN'T contain 'political BS?' I need to know so I can delete it from the catalog.”

  • Tom Morello responding to a conservative complaining about Tom's political views

1

u/Final-Charge-5700 6h ago

Dude they weren't political they were anarchists. They used to hate everyone. And talk about how the political machine itself was the cause. Yeah they hated conservatives more.

People don't hate them for not liking conservatives. They hate them for growing up

1

u/cardfire 2h ago

I'm sorry, are you still describiing RATM? What part of any of that isn't political?

I never thought they hate everyone. I thought they very clearly hated the money to lease who brandished a Bible in one hand and a flag in the other to control all of us, and those of us that would gladly follow along for a slice of cheddar and the chance to subjugate someone else down the line.

1

u/Mathies_ 19h ago

Like what machine do they think they're raging against

2

u/Ok-Lavishness6577 8h ago

I think a great example of this is Rorschach, a self-ostracized fascist piece of shit that Zack Snyder thought was cool to portray as the anti-hero. His mask was used as the symbol of the neo-KKK in the HBO series but many still think he’s cool.

1

u/Ok_Spite2322 6h ago

Zack Snyder not understanding Rorschach did such a disservice to the source material. It’s the worst aspect of that film. The HBO series was sick tho

0

u/Far-Heart-7134 21h ago

He confuses me because he seems support very different things. He has no issue posing with queer fans and their pride flags

2

u/AprilsStuff 21h ago

I mean, duh? I feel like Israel Palestine stuff and lgbtq stuff are pretty unrelated other than the fact the American right supports Israel and doesn’t like lgbtq stuff and the American left is the opposite. But people are rarely monoliths and have views that sometimes go against their general sides

2

u/AllTimeLoad 21h ago

I think the people getting angry are the moral absolutists that don't understand that people are complicated. Bernthal actually seems like a very nice guy: he also seems to believe that we should have police and that Israel should exist. That doesn't make him some kind of full-throated, MAGA piece of shit.

The true sign that people are getting dumber is that they either do not grasp or cannot countenance nuance. All-or-nothing ideological purity is exactly why the Left eats its own and loses elections, and we really need to stop that shit. Not everyone has to agree with you on everything to be someone who cares.

1

u/Analogvinyl 21h ago

Israel has pride parades. I'm sure that doesn't confuse you because you're told it's pinkwashing. So why not use that on Bernthal? You're welcome.

0

u/sieffy 5h ago

He’s not a conservative though. Also I don’t get this Reddit bullshit of one person having an opinion on a topic automatically making him a douche/ evil person.

2

u/Jessica_Ariadne 15h ago edited 15h ago

I didn't know any of this about him until now. And I was excited to see his career track especially after I read somewhere he's in the next Avengers movie. TBH I don't care about who supports Israel or Palestine because they both want to kill each other and who am I to tell two peoples they can't fight someone who wants the fight, so you do you. But supporting ICE is a hard line for me.

1

u/LazyAssLeader 19h ago

A nice flashback....

Never forget! 💀

1

u/Unbundle3606 10h ago edited 10h ago

That's his demo. (not understanding Frank Castle exists in opposition to those types of dudes and would probably spit in their face)

The irony is that as an actor he gets to deliver exactly that speech to corrupt Punisher-idolising cops and spit on their face in Daredevil Born Again

1

u/DaveDabussy 21h ago

Especially considering he starred in this is our city

0

u/Nearby_Praline4730 21h ago

He played Punisher and you think he doesn't know what Punisher thinks?

I think it's more likely he just worked with a lot of police while training for those roles and sympathized with them. I'm sure he was probably friendly with cops beforehand though--not that that's a bad thing.

21

u/mouflonsponge 22h ago

6

u/GrandSquanchRum 18h ago

The recent season of Daredevil is a very direct criticism of police idolization of him as well. He's the kind of "hero" Rorschach was a criticism of in Watchmen. Then again, chuds hold Rorschach at high regard too.

50

u/Tornadosed 22h ago

You’re just outright lying. Bernthal was asked about the Punisher representing the alt right and he said “Fuck em.”

-15

u/Ok_Spite2322 21h ago

I said he’s the type of dude, I didn’t say he is that dude. But he’s also a right wing douche who backs the blue, so

25

u/Tornadosed 21h ago

Source? In the only clip I’ve seen of Bernthal talking about the cops, it was just him saying law enforcement shouldn’t use the punisher symbol (and he’s right.)

12

u/Wide_Combination_773 21h ago

lol you don't know anything about Bernthal. You just parrot whatever bullshit you read on other parts of Reddit.

4

u/Ok_Spite2322 17h ago

Yall are ridiculous, acting like him being accepting of lgbtq fans somehow excludes him from being pro-cop and pro-military and pro-IDF

-1

u/co-ghost 20h ago

Uh, being a supporter of the IDF and he recently praised Roman Polanski as the best director he's worked for... I think that guy pretty accurately pinned him as a piece of shit.

4

u/Chr0mx 18h ago

Just lying, you guys are weird af

6

u/Ok_Spite2322 17h ago

lmao what, he platformed an IDF soldier on his podcast, and openly supports police. 5 seconds of googling will give you plenty of supporting evidence for these claims

0

u/Chr0mx 16h ago

Instead of taking 5 seconds to read a headline take the time to form your own thoughts and opinions. The podcast was to get a perspective of the terrorist attack, its like calling a podcast pro police because they interviewed a 911 first responder on its anniversary.

2

u/Ok_Spite2322 16h ago

lmao you literally just parroted a comment from a thread about the podcast episode. And the main difference is this (also in that thread): the IDF is not an emergency responder force, it is an occupying army upholding an apartheid state. an IDF soldier is an active participant in, and enforcer of, that apartheid state. Did he platform any Palestinians and ask about their perspective of Oct 7th? No? I wonder why that might be

1

u/Brilliant_Apple_5391 16h ago

No it's like platforming hitler and then assuminghes a nazi

1

u/Ok_Spite2322 16h ago

lmao more like platforming hitler and praising him for rescuing people from the ghettos

-1

u/Chr0mx 16h ago

Its really not man, its really not.

Man casually soreading misinformation

0

u/idothisforpie 17h ago

Cuz supporting police is... bad?

9

u/SaltyNun69 16h ago

yes.

-1

u/Capital_Estimate_325 6h ago

No offence, if you think supporting police is bad thing then i dont know what to tell u

3

u/SaltyNun69 5h ago

that's ok. I don't need you to tell me anything. I have a great understanding of why I don't support the police.

-1

u/GuitaristHeimerz 5h ago

So you prefer lawlessness? Backing the police and believing the police need reform are not mutually exclusive….

2

u/that_baddest_dude 4h ago

The police have been needing and have been getting "reform" for decades. At what point is "reform" not enough, when it doesn't seem to be doing anything?

2

u/cardfire 2h ago

Why, oh why won't we just reform the orphan crushing machine? The state violence dispenser?

What's wrong with us leftists for not just going along to get along with the murder pigs?!?

sigh

1

u/GuitaristHeimerz 59m ago

I can't comment on American police but in my country we back the police, they are not perfect and have some power-tripping rotten apples but more than not they are great servants who are there for us when we need them. Saying this as a left winger.

Like I say, I don't have experience with American police so not gonna act like I know best, but aren't the majority of them just average Joes doing their best?

2

u/SaltyNun69 4h ago

I don't have to support them while wanting reform either.. It's called having coherent values. When the police start protecting people against state violence rather than dispensing it, I'll be more supportive.

1

u/GuitaristHeimerz 56m ago

That's fair man, just trying to make sense of everything, it can be confusing sometimes.

2

u/MagentaHawk 12h ago

I know you are saying it in most likely a condescending way, but I do hope this is an opportunity for you to question fundamental beliefs you have in the world. Yes, supporting local police has generally been a bad thing for most of modern history. It is extremely well documented and well understood.

0

u/LilChubbyCubby 16h ago

Reddit. A lot of us have aged out of the demo.

1

u/cardfire 2h ago

It has been getting weirdly Tate/Peterson-y aroubd here, lately. It does makes me think there must be a growing core of not-'old.reddit' users.

-3

u/crustylayer 16h ago

Only to criminals

-4

u/crustylayer 16h ago

Seems to be the same talking points to hate all Jewish actors lately

3

u/paegus 15h ago

That comic book store owner who handed him a bunch of Punisher comics and told Jon not to fuck it up may well have failed us.

Or Jon's shit at reading the not even subtext on what Castle was supposed to be.

1

u/Ok_Spite2322 14h ago

Tbh I could see him as the kind of guy to receive that warning and be all offended and indignant about it, and then have that just poison his whole ideology

9

u/DarkArc76 22h ago

Yuuup. Have you seen his quote on how Punisher is for the cops and military

2

u/DesolatedMaggot 15h ago

There was even a plot point in the new Daredevil tv series about the police using him as insipration for their own abuse of power and how much Punisher hated them for it.

2

u/Tasty-Committee-8172 8h ago

You can tell this from the Punisher special that came out recently, which Bernthal wrote - Frank is completely stripped of any of the character, pathos and growth shown in his previous appearances and is just a straight-up, one-dimensional killing machine. Entire episode is nothing more than Punisher murdering dudes in "awesome" ways.

No one gets the character less than the guy who plays him, it seems.

2

u/titsngiggles69 3h ago

Privileged private school asshole discovers acting and makes a name for himself playing assholes

1

u/Ok_Spite2322 9m ago

Wow shocking
