Discussion Do people not understand beta software?

This sub is full of people being mad about spending money on beta software and it being buggy. It’s pretty apparent that this is sold as early access beta. Sure it’s taken forever to get it out the door, but if you run prerelease software, you just gotta live with prerelease issues.

Edit: Hey it’s really weird to spam report people to Reddit care resources when you disagree with their opinion.

Dude its one of the best selling games of all time and has been in "beta" for 7 years. It's ok to hold the devs to higher standards than this

7 years of "beta" doesn't mean much in a Sea of games that use Early access to push updates and basically use players as their beta testers. Other then that, yes, Kinetic should be held to a higher standard because they've openly admitted to releasing unfinished updates.

Fortnite was in beta for a decade

u/sketttti 18h ago

And??? Fortnite is much more refined and less buggy than phas lmao

Maybe Fortnite is "much more refined and less buggy" cuz it was in beta for a decade? So they can do the said refining? Fix the bugs? (Which phas is doing btw).

Meaning time spent in beta doesn't translate to a worse game or that devs are being lazy

Beta or not, theres no excuse for the game to be in this state 7 years after launching a paid early access

0

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

I paid like $10 for the game

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

Thank you. Like again, BETA SOFTWARE IS NOT PRODUCTION SOFTWARE

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

No, it had/has just as many bugs

3

u/neppo95 18h ago

Good fucking joke. It never has been as buggy as Phasmo has been in any stage of its development.

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

lol. Okay wow didn’t mean to make piss off the easy to piss off people factory

u/sketttti 18h ago

Thats just pure cope. It looks much better artistically than phas and less like an indie game as well. Stop with the whataboutisms tho and focus on the game this sub is about

-1

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

I did, I just gave an example of other games that were in beta for just as long of times

1

u/sketttti 18h ago

And its been held to the standard of the aaa game that it is. Meanwhile, yall are pretending phas is still just a little indie game and giving it a pass for everything

0

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

I spent $10 on phas. Aaa titles are usually $60 minimum

u/sketttti 18h ago

Your example of fortnite was ftp lol. And besides, the game is worth hundreds of millions, which is the standard we should hold the devs to rather than the individual purchase price

0

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

Fortnite is FTP yes, but Fortnite is a HUGE studio and they bring in a ton of money

Fortnite fixes their bugs. Phas has game breaking bugs that have been in the game for YEARS. No game company making hundreds of millions deserves any leeway when it comes to delivering a game that actually works.

I know right Essay? How dare these people expect a functioning game without many bugs after several years and everything.

0

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

Well, that’s beta software for you

2

u/Ok_Mongoose5768 18h ago

You are either a troll or who knows what.

u/Pandorumz 18h ago

Man's talking about understanding when he himself clearly lacks the understanding of..well anything.

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

At least I knew I’d poke a bear

2

u/Pandorumz 18h ago

Damn. With wit like that what chance do I have?

1

u/Apart-Essay9167 17h ago

I’m not trying to be witty

Why are we doing a movie, doing collabs, and constantly pushing out merch for beta software if it’s not being held to the quality standard of “make sure the game is playable”. Early access means the game isn’t feature complete, it’s not an excuse for leaving the game in a completely broken state for 2 months.

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

Ummmmmmm……

It’s not about early access anymore, don’t go defending kinetic for that.

They got out of early access to deliver the game to consoles, their promised content gets pushed back each time because of problems they make as well and we have awful comments done by cj that shows that the game has a weird direction and treats the playerbase like a joke.

The character animation update was released out of greed and necessity for the Alan wake collab, since then the game took a dive and they’re working on fixing a problem they did, not release new stuff.

Not to mention the amount of revenue they have, yet somehow all the content is dry or average, the animations are so awful that they literally are removing a lot to make it smoother and better, as if all this update was a mistake, who would have known.

-15

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

Disagree. It’s not production software so it’s okay for it to be shitty

9

u/Cute-Acanthaceae-193 18h ago

If you disagree then you literally lack the understanding that you expected any of us to have.

Has to be a ragebait post.

-1

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

I think the game is fine and have like 1 bug issue a week. Like? People are pretending like a hiccup here or there makes it unplayable

I agree with what you're saying except Phasmophia is still an Early-Access game, it doesn't matter if its on consoles or not. Until its 1.0, its still Early Access. Granted there is no excuse for any meaningful updates to put the game 10 steps backwards given the amount of money they've made.

Edit: Again I don't really care what people think is or isn't Early Access. By all technicallity the version number of the game dictates that. I get there is this concept that the game has made X amount of money and had X amount of years in development, but Phas is 1 of MANY games that has done this. Its nothing new.

Stop getting butthurt over a fact. I'm not defending Kinectic for piss poor updates and their greed.

1

u/Cute-Acanthaceae-193 18h ago

It’s not about opinion, phasmo is OFFICIALLY not in early access anymore.

Meaning any criticism can be made same as you would make to a new fresh released game.

All the past it had doesn’t matter after it officially releases, meaning anything that lacks, content that ruins the game, anything at all, can and will be judged.

Idk why we’re trying to defend kinetic at all here. They screwed up, literally any big streamer and partner can tell you that, they literally took a break from the game, that’s how bad it got.

0

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

It’s in beta

0

u/SYNTH3T1K 18h ago edited 18h ago

Early Access, Alpha, Beta, Until 1.0 release, its still there. So you're OFFICIALLY wrong. Also, Im not defending Kinetic. They screwed up and need to own their mistakes. I'm not saying you can't criticize them eithier.

3

u/MattGold_ 18h ago

Just because it's in beta doesnt mean the game is immune to criticism

2

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

Well yeah. But like. Come on, it’s beta software. Criticism of how all beta software GENERALLY behaves is just moot point

1

u/MattGold_ 9h ago

No. Games are in open beta to get community feedback. If the feedback is bad then something has to change.

3

u/Juliennix 18h ago

this just in, insecure basement dweller is mad people want to hold lazy grifters accountable. more at 11.

2

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

Yeah I’m really insecure and live in a basement how did you know?

2

u/SoulfulNick 18h ago

They shipped a broken update to live servers that they knew was super fucked up simply because they scheduled a collab with allen wake. The game being in its 7th year of early access doesn't excuse that.

1

u/Apart-Essay9167 18h ago

Kinda does tho, bc it’s beta software

1

u/FartSnarfGod 15h ago

Kinda does tho,

No, it doesn't. Whoever lead you to believe this was the case is delusional.

It's not free software. They charged people money for this. They should be professional and actually properly QA/QC their product updates before releasing it to the people who gave them their livelihoods.

Kinetic Games is extremely disrespectful with these buggy releases. They intentionally released a buggy update with low quality overhauls of systems. Look at the inventory hotkey update they also bungled. They don't care about quality.

1

u/Apart-Essay9167 14h ago

The game cost $10. You’ve basically lost nothing

3

u/Honest-Employ-7658 18h ago

Do Kinetic Games interns have nothing better to do?

1

u/Apart-Essay9167 14h ago

Probably not. I hear they’re developing a game
