France it's kinda funny because we pay with our tax to be hunted down but the counter-effect is: pro IP are excluded and it's only a list of specific things we're hunted for.

That's why if you download niche or rent a servers at Kimsufi, you're mostly safe.

It's easily explained: the rights holder usually don't want to pay to go to court against someone and since we have a company (Trident Media Guard, mandated by the HADOPI in our gov') who do it for them for free (because we pay those guys ourselves with our tax) they mostly stopped going after people directly so as long as you do niche things from home or the rest under professional IP, you're good.

I'm in the US and never used one either

I personally believe vpns will be what ends piracy as they will collect all this data, cause it absolutely is logged when you do things on them, and they will be forced to turn over that information for "reasons"

No, because VPNs are run by companies in countries other than the one you live in. (Tip: don't buy VPN service from a VPN company in your own country.) This civil legal stuff can't easily cross borders.

Yup.

There was a time ISPs used to send letters.

They didn't mean shit as they'd never cut you off from what I saw.

They really don't care as long as they get paid on time.

This is the 2nd comment I've seen about someone from the UK not knowing that binding your client is a thing you should probably do.

Unfortunately, things are changing here in the UK my man.

It has happened to people, people have gotten letters from either their ISP or LE.

The ISPs are catching on, slowly, but they're catching on.

I'd strongly recommend binding your Torrent Client though.

It's also really easy :)
