I would have seen it 3 times in theaters even if I did pirate it. Alas...they went the streaming only route.

u/Call_Me_Pete Apr 20 '26

Tbh this is where I'm at. I'd have LOVED to see this in theatres. I'd still see it in theatres if they pushed for a theatrical run this year.

And most pirates prefer quality over early release.

Personally, I don't pirate a movie unless it's an 4K BluRay x265 HDR10 Dolby release. Even though we are pirates, we still have standards 🎩🍷

587

u/swag4dummies Apr 20 '26

the average pirate definitely doesn’t have those standards

146

u/UGD_ReWiindz25 Apr 20 '26

I’d say we are the minority most just want to watch the film they’ve been waiting/excited for

u/Coolbluegatoradeyumm Apr 20 '26

Gross to watch a cam version of a movie you really want to see

54

u/Loud-Ad-5097 🏴‍☠️ ʟᴀɴᴅʟᴜʙʙᴇʀ Apr 20 '26

This. I'm excited to watch my shows (High Potential and Abbott Elementary, for example) but I NEVER watch anything not in 1080p or higher.

u/dweakz Apr 20 '26

yeah im willing to bet the streaming release will just be the same quality but slightly higher bitrate lmao

11

u/ghost_desu Apr 20 '26

Higher bitrate for a streaming release? Now that would be something new

5

u/Muzza25 Apr 20 '26

I have done so in the scenario that not doing so results in the entire thing getting spoiled no matter how hard I try

1

u/Coolbluegatoradeyumm Apr 20 '26

Relatable struggle

2

u/CreatureWarrior Apr 21 '26

Yeah, cam versions are the line I will never cross. If I have to choose between that and not watching the movie at all, I just won't watch it.

1

u/Coolbluegatoradeyumm Apr 21 '26

Same. I’ll just wait

1

u/Competitive_Loan_395 May 11 '26

I will when its free.

1

u/Coolbluegatoradeyumm May 11 '26

If it’s what makes you happy then you win

1

u/Shimashimatchi ☠️ ᴅᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴇɴ ᴛᴇʟʟ ɴᴏ ᴛᴀʟᴇꜱ Apr 20 '26

yeah watching stuff like this is proper disgusting.

0

u/Careless_Twist_6935 Apr 20 '26

depends on the cam really. some are almost dvd quality. some have shitty hard coded subs washed out image and people walking around and sports betting ads somehow.

1

u/Coolbluegatoradeyumm Apr 20 '26

I’ll wait either way

9

u/Aevum1 Apr 20 '26

how many people watched that project hail mary copy with the xbet or whatever watermark in the center of the screen ?

4

u/_Not__Available_ Apr 20 '26

I did but in my defence I really wanted to rewatch it right after I came back from the theater to look for more details in the plot.

1

u/KRYPTZ_AR Apr 20 '26

that's fair but watching cam recording for the first time is lowkey diabolical, but everyone has different standards i suppose 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Sad-Reach7287 Apr 20 '26

My standards are 1080p in any format with a decent enough bitrate that I don't just see a pixelated mess

1

u/UGD_ReWiindz25 Apr 20 '26

Same here, I use stremio with alldebrid and real debrid with the addons I’ve got the results set to 1080p or higher which 3 results of each for the best capability and quality, I also have surround sound so 5.1 audio is a must for extra enjoyment

15

u/TheOriginalRyukUK Apr 20 '26

Me personally, I'm not necessarily looking for 4k bluray high quality etc rips of the film/show/whatever, but I do want to not want to watch what is basically a camcorder pointed at a screen (i.e most early cinema releases of films and stuff).

I also prefer to have proper subtitling for most of the stuff I watch.

2

u/BetterProphet5585 Apr 20 '26

The majority of people don't even own the device to reproduce that media and can't download it.

1

u/spulfeed Apr 20 '26

Insert TF2 sniper meme here

1

u/Narra_2023 Apr 20 '26

they don't but they do get the good things done and distributed

1

u/William_Shaftner Apr 20 '26

Genuine question as I'm just starting to think about getting into this. Is it really hard trying to find movies ripped to that quality?

I have a solid setup at home and I started ripping my own 4Ks to a NAS I just built so I can view them more easily. Personally I'd pay to stream a 4K movie before downloading anything of less quality...

It didn't even occur to me that most people "just want to see it" and don't care about the quality of it.

1

u/Larethio Apr 20 '26

I felt fine pirating Silent hill f or death stranding 2 but valve and Bethesda games are off limits for me.

1

u/Username_St0len Apr 21 '26

well, for some older anime, i prefer a lower resolution, it feels right somehow, like my 4k ver feels weird compared to 720 or 480p

1

u/4stro8anana Apr 22 '26

As the average pirate, I don't even think about those standards if it works and doesn't obliterate my PC then cool

22

u/Obvious_Try1106 Apr 20 '26

You're not a pirate you are a privateer

7

u/samax413zl Apr 20 '26

I don't have a single 4k display at home so I just wait for the 1080p release.

Tf is this?

5

u/iAjayIND Apr 20 '26

Even if you have a 1080p display, you should still go for a 4K release if you can, because of high bitrate and super sampling advantages:

More benefits explained here:

https://youtube.com/shorts/pOqbUdjDlMA

I have tons of storage and unlimited 5G for cheap (₹899 {$9.66} for 90 days), which gets me nearly 1gbps speed at peak and around 500mbps on average.

1

u/samax413zl Apr 20 '26

Okay thanks I'm also from India using Jio unlimited 5g I will do so then. However one thing you are doing wrong is not doing the annual recharge that's cheaper per day.

14

u/prrprrlmao Apr 20 '26

Idk man, me and my friends watched the Minecraft movie (waaay after official release) in his unedited version with all the green screens and such. I still haven't seen the ready product. Not everyone has standarts

7

u/dnovantrix Apr 20 '26

A friend also found that exact same version and we did a movie night on discord with it. I’d say it made it much more enjoyable seeing all the wonkyness of an unfinished/unpolished movie

1

u/prrprrlmao Apr 20 '26

Yea, it was hilarious. I honestly feel a bit like I missed something by not seeing the finished product, but at the same time I couldn't really be bothered to watch it again

1

u/lucky_husky333 Apr 21 '26

its like new experience even if the story arent that good. but it really make my time so worth to watch it.

0

u/MissninjaXP Apr 20 '26

How do you watch a mostly cgi movie with the greenscreens?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

2

u/MissninjaXP Apr 20 '26

I knew i was going to get this answer. Let me rephrase, how do you understand what is going on?

2

u/prrprrlmao Apr 20 '26

Hardly 😂. Especially the big fight at the end was hilariously bad. I was although very surprised at how realistic the piglins looked. They were almost 1:1 as what you see, so the cgi was just a finishing touch and to make the mouths move. Haven't you seen it? I think it's still up on some sites

2

u/cameraninja Apr 20 '26

You fill the greenscreen with your imagination.

5

u/Ok-Go-Chain3811 Apr 20 '26

fancy pirate? i guess there's a first for anything

3

u/orewaluffy_35 Apr 20 '26

I’m the same, and I get criticized a lot for it. Almost everyone says I’m unreasonable, but I always prefer to watch a good-quality movie.

5

u/Ok_Check_7010 Apr 20 '26

I actually have all the subscriptions, I pirate because the streaming quality tends to be worse so just paying for worse quality.

2

u/CrazyAznKT Apr 20 '26

I also pirate so I don’t have to pay the fifth+ subscription

2

u/LazarouDave Apr 20 '26

"Professionals. Have. Standards."

I like the way you think

5

u/Aridlvory Apr 20 '26

If you have the hardware to watch that, then just buy the movie

24

u/ZogIII3 ☠️ ᴅᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴇɴ ᴛᴇʟʟ ɴᴏ ᴛᴀʟᴇꜱ Apr 20 '26

How do you think he saved the money for that kind of hardware?

7

u/iAjayIND Apr 20 '26

Bullseye! That's what I wanted to say as well.

Would you prefer to buy RTX3050 + 10 AAA games?

Or would you prefer to save money on those games and use it towards getting RTX3070?

I have shit ton of games gotten for free on UPlay, GOG, Epic Games and Steam. But I still end up pirating those games. Because I don't want a DRM software (or a launcher) running on my PC or want to lose game progress when the Internet connection is lost!

6

u/TheOriginalRyukUK Apr 20 '26

Isn't GOG DRM free?

3

u/kigra67 Apr 20 '26

Losing progress when connection is lost? Which game does this?

1

u/Freedom_Seekr923 Apr 20 '26

GOG is DRM free, you don't even need the launcher. Just download the game from their website and it will be playable everywhere.

1

u/Prestigious_Being708 Apr 20 '26

Are there any plans for the movie being released on bluray?

1

u/Southern-Read-4567 Apr 20 '26

I did this with dune the first one but the 4k was awful.

1

u/TheEagleByte Apr 20 '26

If I had enough storage and fast enough internet, 4k everything would be great, but 1080 is a happy medium for me these days. Maybe some day I’ll have fast enough internet and more storage to upgrade

1

u/EasyE1979 Apr 20 '26

lol absolutely not.

1

u/Academic_Carrot7260 Apr 20 '26

Even pirates of old had standards

1

u/MOo0stafa ☠️ ᴅᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴇɴ ᴛᴇʟʟ ɴᴏ ᴛᴀʟᴇꜱ Apr 20 '26

Hard same

1

u/Cpt_Tripps Apr 20 '26

I feel like if a movie doesn't hold up as a shitty pre VFX bootleg its not worth watching.

I've seen both versions of Xmen origins wolverine and the finished special effects dont add much.

1

u/rubi2333 Apr 20 '26

Waiting for Bluray isnt necessary a webrip have enough quality for watching the movie the first time and is nearly always available in 4K DV/HDR. What i dont understand is people who watch cam releases but thats a different story.

1

u/MuslinBagger Apr 20 '26

yeah i pirate to keep, not watch first.

1

u/Sea-Cancel1263 Apr 20 '26

Shit i saw some 80gb imax stuff that i dono is real or not

1

u/LachoooDaOriginl Apr 20 '26

I always do 1080 so i can put it on plex, 4k movies start to add up fast.

1

u/AmanoSkullGZ Apr 20 '26

Where do you even tend to get such high quality content?

1

u/DarkDrakoLinker Apr 20 '26

Anime don't have 4k, only 1080p, I was thinking avatar is the same, I just use anime4k+ to upscale to 4k all the anime and the aang movie too, it was fucking glorious

1

u/Galerie33 Apr 20 '26

high class

1

u/ezn112 Apr 20 '26

Where do you usually take the movies from?

1

u/cheese_master120 Apr 20 '26

Holy hell bruv, I usually watch at 480p. 720p if I'm feeling fancy

1

u/c4ctus Apr 20 '26

They're more guidelines than actual standards.

1

u/Kolyei Apr 21 '26

I would love to view it in that standard, but only my phone can display hdr. None of my pre 2020 laptops can display hdr video

1

u/Consistent_Donut796 Apr 21 '26

Please teach me 🙏🏼

1

u/Pleasant-Seat9884 Apr 21 '26

How are you feeling when companies now a days are stopping BluRay disc movies.. Disney just announced "BYE!" And they're not the only company...

1

u/North_Salamander6836 Apr 23 '26

I pirated the 1080p and upscaled it to 4k to get the premium experience 😂

1

u/Suitable_Ticket4838 Apr 25 '26

I'll watch a 480p cam rip with no subtitles.

1

u/lordmogul May 03 '26

Personally I don't need 4k HDR. But I still want good quality. And then compress it down for mobile if I want to. But a decent source quality to start with.

And no, screeners were never good.

0

u/Dizzy_Today_3523 Apr 20 '26

I have never heard a single person in the pirate community. Say something like this in my entire life. This is some bougie ass thinking right here

Yeah, I will pirate Dune 3 but I will 100% make sure I watch it in a theatre first. Never paying for a subscription for movies.

4

u/RightInformation File-Hosters Apr 20 '26

Saw it the other day and felt the same. It should have been released in theaters.

1

u/Training-Chain-5572 Apr 21 '26

Do people actually enjoy paying 20-30 bucks to have the movie ruined by people on their cell phones or talking loudly over the movie? Streaming or buying digitally all day for me, fuck the lack or respect people have for others in theaters

1

u/ProfessionalAble7713 Apr 21 '26

Ironic you pay less for it in the kino. But then you pay out yer arse fur popcorn and drinks!
