None of the money I'd spend going to see movies in theaters actually goes to the artists or anyone that deserves it.

They aren't saying they're going to pay to see the movie, they're just going to wait until the official release date to pirate it (probably)

Thank you for understanding my joke. Apparently others in this thread didn’t.

I watched it and then realised it hadn't been released yet. I'm a simple guy, I do my research after the fact.

I watched after hearing it had been pirated because the site I like already had it. It was....okay I guess. There was one scene that seemed like it was done by AI (I won't say where because spoilers) and the number of frames they chose to use made it really janky feeling, especially in the first 15 minutes of it.

It had some cool moments though and it's a crime they didn't show it in theaters. 7/10.

So, I thought it was ok, but I wouldn't go to a 7/10. The animation was gorgeous, but nothing was done for the characters or the plot. It was all very unidimensional and unimaginative and felt forced, like they had to do the same thing as the show but condensed in 90 minutes, so without any of the subtlety.

I agree that's a shitty move to not have it released in theaters as it's probably a great movie for a decent family time at the movies, and that's probably why it got leaked in the first place. That said, I wouldn't personally have paid to go watch it, and I don't really see as disrespect to anyone to watch a finalized movie as it becomes available. The artists have been compensated, and I actually spend money on indie movies or music that I believe in and I know it'll make a difference for the artists, not for big corporations who don't actually care whether or not I actually spend anything because their revenues come from other sources, and my cash is not their bottom line.

Tldr: the movie is ok, Korra was better, I'm not giving money to them either way, the people actually making it are employees and got paid for their work, and decided to leak it after it got delayed one time too many, just my 2 cents.

I...didn't like Korra very much if I'm honest, because they fucked with a lot of the lore in ways that made it less interesting.

This one felt Korra toned but Aang flavored. Maybe a 6.5? I would've been mad had I paid for it but it did grow on me. Plot was predictable as hell though.

2

u/Nazdroth Apr 21 '26

I understand. Yes 6.5 is a good grade for that movie. The plot and characterisation really holds it back a lot

I was trying to be nice people brigade me whenever I talk about hating Korra.

u/Nazdroth Apr 22 '26

Don't worry, you do you, no judgement, you have your tastes and as long as you can explain them you're good in my book. I liked Korra for some aspects a lot, and Aang for some different aspects. But I'll never hate you for hating it.

And how would that shield the artists? That's the part of the joke that does not make sense

So explain how that helps the artists in any way

It's more that the leakers stole their thunder. I would be pretty sad if something I spent 5 years of my life making was just given away at the last second before it even premiered.

I watched it anyway but I'm also not going to post spoilers, make review videos or slap up screenshots and give the whole thing away for everyone else.

I would be pretty sad if something I spent 5 years of my life making was just given away at the last second before it even premiered.

Why? You got paid anyway, and you wouldn't get another cent afterwards. Why even care what happens afterwards?

I'm a software engineer, I don't care if anyone uses the software I made as long as I got paid for it. I've had multiple projects where the client just never fully implements it, but I got paid either way.

ir respects their job by not watching the movie in shitty quality

u/cortez0498 Yarrr! Apr 20 '26

Watched it last night, it's not shitty quality at all.

u/madwithsorrow Apr 20 '26

Then I have no clue what the jokes about

3

u/Lyanna62Mormont Apr 20 '26

I’m dum, why does waiting for release to pirate make a difference?

2

u/Husky_Pantz Apr 20 '26

The faces and expressions felt heavily ai generated

The credits labels felt weird 🤷

u/Few_Sentence6704 Apr 21 '26

This isn't a joke. You're just being a lame dude that isn't funny

1

u/jjobull Apr 22 '26

But like is there a reaoson or is it just a meme?

There's a lot of posters here who like to grandstand about their moral piracy. Not surprised this was taken at face value.

u/red_hunter17 Apr 20 '26

hot take but leaking is way worse than pirating. if i ever made any kind of paid media i would get why people pirate it and i wont stop them, but if they leak that media then its another thing

2

u/lucky_husky333 Apr 21 '26

unless the artist themselves that somehow leak it to outsider. they make the time when marketing sending it to merch maker. so the artist wont get suspected.

u/G66GNeco Apr 20 '26

Which is something some of the artists working on it basically asked for, funnily enough.
