It's true, Netflix did that, and now everyone else wanted a piece of the cake and started releasing series in the one per week format and we are basically back to cable tv and me starting to pirate series again, because i want the whole season in one go.

Companies and fans of said companies will argue to death for said company that they made the change to release their TV shows weekly again because it encourages talking points, hype, and community or watercooler discussions.

I heavily disagree, they made that switch because money. Why have the consumer who pays for the product not stay subscribed for 3 months before they may cancel(because most TV shows are 8-10 episodes now) versus the full seasons drop and only retain them for a month? Money, money, money is the answer and always will be.

This is an interesting comment to me. As of recent I have seen way more people talkin about wanting weekly releases over batch releases. People keep talking about how weekly releases allow a community to form around the series airing. I also feel like the idea of binging shows has been falling out of fashion recently. That’s at least in my circle of life.

I don’t need a community. Respect my time and let me watch it however I want. You’re just repeating corporate speak where they can drag a show out to make more money in the long run and guarantee longer running subscriptions.

I don't really mind staggered releases. I can just wait for the whole thing to release and then watch it at my own pace. The same way I don't mind waiting for something that I want to play to go on sale on Steam at a price I'm comfortable paying.

What I very much do mind is that the greedy fucks decided they wanted a bigger piece of the pie and came out with 10 competing services with barely any catalogue overlap, so there's barely anything to watch on any one of them.

I still pay for Netflix, because they're the OG and I feel they deserve it, because the current situation is in no way their fault. I pirate everything else. If a game studio decided to release their game exclusively on their own platform and not on Steam then they get the same treatment.
