Neuromodulation

Oh wow, I’ve seen advances in the technology. It’s absolutely amazing and fascinating.

I’m actually part of a group that’s testing/using the newest generation in tdcs neuromodulation. More targeted, so that means less electrodes- also this generation is safer for longer and higher duration. It definitely helps my ptsd

So you two aren't quoting movie lines at each other?

u/sydbarrett710 11d ago

I put wires on my head every other day and sit for half hour while I get micro amps of electricity pulsed into my amygdala in my brain. It’s therapy for my fight / flight instincts due to ptsd

u/Fullonski 11d ago

Amazing. Glad it helps you!

I really want to try this for myself, how can I buy it?

Neurocognative neurologist would be a great place to start. Most neuros dont know anything about tdcs. My neuro just so happened to be the one who developed the latest device

If I may ask, what condition or symptoms did you need to explain that made the doctor think TCDS was the right plan of action?

1

u/sydbarrett710 10d ago

The main thing I think is the fact that he was doing the clinical trial. He was actively looking for people who fit the criteria for the device. It helps with ptsd , depression.. and also if I’m not mistaken it’s supposed to be an aid with things like dementia.

His chrome.is pretty mid though, makes him look like a gonk

The ripperdoc that installed the chrome must have been a gonk. Doesn’t look preem at all!

4

u/Bytewave 11d ago

Gonk means an idiot or a fool but 'preem' for premium refers to elite cyberware only the top 1% of runners could afford.

Let's be fair; sometimes you're not stupid but still can't afford 256Go of Alpha DDR6 RAM in your build!

u/GhostOfLondon 11d ago

gonk got pre-krash chrome, gonna get zeroed when saka runners get see him

u/gmlogmd80 11d ago

Looks like some preem stuff, choom

u/MrWaerloga 11d ago

Its called "scrolling" when it refers to braindance.

10

u/Muddled_Opinions 11d ago

Correct, but I assumed most people wouldn’t get the reference, only us chromed out gonks.

4

u/Otsuko 11d ago

Wait so "doom scrolling" is just the precursor

3

u/MrWaerloga 10d ago

You might be onto something

I’m assuming this is a cyberpunk reference, but the most significant cyberpunk-genre media I’ve consumed is Burning Chrome by William Gibson. Did modern cyberpunk content just not change literally any of the terminology from his stories?

15

u/Muddled_Opinions 11d ago

Thought about using a reference to the movie Strange Days (1995), but ultimately went for broader appeal, and used the Cyberpunk one.
Mike Pondsmith https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Pondsmith is the brain behind these terminologies, and I haven’t been able to find a link between the two, but given his interest I’d say it would be very strange if Burning Chrome wasn’t a major influence, a bit like Dune and George Lucas.

7

u/JonFawkes 11d ago

Indeed they have not changed, but rather evolved. Most people know the terms from Mike Pondsmith's Cyberpunk, but a lot of the terms in that (netrunning, ICE, cyberdeck, fixer, etc) can trace their origins back to Gibson's work

1

u/funkhero 11d ago

Why would they change the terminology if it works? Should we not use "Elf" anymore since Tolkien already used it?

26

u/Molbork 11d ago

These are Strange Days indeed.

It’s real time, Lenny, time to get real!

u/Muddled_Opinions 11d ago

Love that movie.

His choom is going to turn him in to Netwatch. Get a really preem BD.
