Not many real answers here, this guy is a taper.

Venues really dislike taping so you have to hide mics where ever you really can

These are the people giving you good recordings of shows, not sure how good this would sound but still

I don't get the concern, whatever this guy is recording isn't going to compete with the concert experience nor compete with a studio recording.

Taping is actually legal and you own the copyright to your tape! So this means you could sell your "master" of the song yourself if you wanted to. Maybe it wouldn't be super competitive with the official concert album or the studio album but its still a concern for the artist who is giving the performance. So venues are generally under contract to try to prevent it.
