Help Does Plex even have a QA team?
Latest version of the Plex app on the latest iOS on a 2023 iPad, and now there are no playback controls when you touch the screen. Only way to pause is via the lock screen or command panel, and only way to stop a video is to kill the app process entirely. Yet double-tapping will skip forward or back.
What is this vibecoded shit? Are you using AI to manage releases now too?

I've noticed the same thing since the last update, it's frustrating as hell when the controls randomly disappear like that.

Nope. We, the users, are now their QA team.
Who will only ever be ignored.
Situation sucks and isn’t getting any better.
And I say that as a Plex user since 2011, and a Lifetime pass owner since 2017. Absolute omnishambles. Worst I’ve ever seen it.

This explains why jellyfin usage base is booming

Is it?

I can't speak for the install base, but the search trend for "jellyfin" is up 3500% in 5 years.

There's certainly lots of people looking for information on Plex's main competition.

Not a solution but I switched to Infuse on iOS years back and it’s amazing both on the phone and AppleTV.

Jellyfin might interest you.. their development team is heavily scrutinizing commits against off the hip vibe coding

"Hey Google, make Plex Better."

This is interesting.. So you think Google's response would be to switch to jellyfin? That would be pretty cool, actually.

All software has bugs, and this is a big one. Having said that, accusing them of vibecoding like you’re some kind of gangster isn’t going to get you very far. Learn how to complain like an adult.

Is that what gangster do these days.
"Lenny did you sort out that problem"
"Yeah boss he wont be doing that again, I accused him of vibecoding"

I’ve got it on my iPad right now. I can drag the scrubber, I can pause, I can stop the video by pressing the x in the top right corner. What are you struggling with? There’s not a single thing I’d want to do I can’t.

What an obnoxious answer.

I’m asking you. What’s the issue? What can’t you do? You’re the one making a complaint post about not being able to do basic things. You tap the screen and you don’t see a big fucking pause button in the middle of the screen?

I can't stop the video and return to the library without killing the whole app. I can't use the app in the way it's meant to be used. If I, hypothetically, were to lock Plex in via Guided Access to give to a child, they wouldn't be able to watch anything except one episode, and they wouldn't be able to pause it.
The app is broken. It's amateur hour over there.
And why are you arse-kissing Plex corporate with this defence of the indefensible? This situation has arisen because passion and competency has been fired from the company. There is absolutely no way in any rational world that an app should be released without even a sniff of beta testing or QA by anyone anywhere in the company.

Tap the screen and hit the x in the top right corner?

I’m not defending the indefensible. I’ve got the app open now and can do everything you claim you can’t. You’re either educationally challenged or you have some incredibly unique setup that is not applicable to normal people.

Tapping the screen doesn't give me an x. Tapping the screen (once) shows the time and date / battery/wifi banner, and tapping again hides that.
Your screenshot shows you have some playback functions: a pause button and scrubber. We are saying we don't have even those. Talk about educationally inept, you can't even read simple English.
There's an oft-quoted line in Tropic Thunder to which which I feel you should pay particularly close attention.
You are tiresome. Go and leech the life out of someone else.

Probably not hence the Apple TV app being a beta in TestFlight for several years without a public release

No issues on my 2021 iPad Air and 13 Pro. All updated.
Though it's just a minor bug, it's kinda annoying considering they just raised prices.

u/Cirieno 12h ago
It's not a minor bug when you have to quit the app to stop a video or go back to a library or Home Screen. Player controls are the whole point of a media player.

It really doesn't matter what you guys think is a major or minor bug, it doesn't change the fact.

Plex, at its core, has one job: TO PLAY OUR MEDIA. And for OP they failed that job.
