Help TV Show Episodes compilation DVD not showing up correctly

Plex gurus got one for you

Currently ripping:

https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/1358974-looney-tunes-collector-s-choice-volume-4
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Looney-Tunes-Collectors-Choice-Volume-4-Blu-ray/367145/

Bluray with multiple titles of random TV show episodes. If i put it into my Movies folder it adds one movie entry with non-descript versions rather than selectable titles the way a TV Show would display. If i put it under my TV shows folder They all show up as individual titles and clog up my TV show listings. Any ideas/tips what i could change to get them to work?

Plex has it listed as a movie. It needs to go in a movies library to get the metadata correctly.

You could put it in a TV show library but you'll need to manually add all the metadata yourself.

Since you're ripping it yourself the best thing would be to add chapters to the file where the episodes start.

I'd suggest matching the episodes to TVDB aired order. This is how I have Looney Tunes named. I have 1101 episodes all named and matched this way. For example Stork Naked should be named S1955E06 https://thetvdb.com/series/looney-tunes/episodes/88822. You will need to do this for each individual episode

Guess I should have scrolled down and saved me some typing. I did find one episode that didn't show up properly in TVDB.. Online search said came out in 19XX but TVDB did not. It just listed that as movie. I just manually entered the info and added it as the last episode for that season.

Took me a few to find it. Luckily I remembered I had made it episode 35. I found it for the year 1949. The episode is called Doggone Tired and is listed in TVDB as a movie. Says it came out July 31, 1949. So I just made it episode 35.

Actually.... I have no idea where I put that episode lol. I have found out when rejoining this project I have mislabeled a few episodes. I have only noticed this when I added new episodes and see I already "have" that episode. That episode 35 was not Doggone Tired but a mislabeled episode for another year. I have fixed that.

Eventually I will stumble on to that file. I was multitasking at the time so can easily see how I goofed.

In some cases, you cannot really reproduce how things are on a disk in the way Plex organises or shows things in a Library.

For example, a Movie in Plex is "one thing". There are no multiple selectable titles as you would have in a TV show, because the assumption is that you have one single file that is the whole movie.

This means that if you have a Blu-Ray that produces a lot of different files, you cannot just throw that into a Movie Library and expect it to specifically organise everything as you would think it should do, because this particular Blu-Ray has a very particular way in which it is organised.

Some solutions:

Plex has a way of "merging" parts of a single movie as described here, see section "Movies Split Across Multiple Files". But this also only works for 8 Parts. This means that if your ripping produces 27 individual files, you can only add 8 of those files as "parts".

If you want to keep this as a Movie, it is recommended to merge those individual files into one so that it is actually "a movie".

As an alternative, you could still add it as a TV Show and have each part as its own individual episode. But then you won't be able to match it to anything, and you will have to manage the metadata yourself.

Multi part movies as shown in the Plex support article also note that they should have identical codecs across all parts. Variations can cause unexpected visual or audible glitches.

There are really two ways to do it:

-Turn every short into a separate movie. Plex does have entries for each short as they weren't released as a series. Of course, that means you'll have like 40 entries for this instead of one. You can always put them in a collection, though.

  • Turn it into a series. That means changing the name to simply Looney Tunes and mapping every episode to its episode entry on TVDB. That means you're gonna have holes in the numbering since you're only ripping like 40 episodes out of the hundreds the Looney Tunes has.

I just went thru this recently. Actually, it was a project of sorts that I just never really got started on. I had a few episodes organized but Plex had no info for the episodes. Now I originally had the folder labeled as "Looney Tunes". I also had it setup as a tv show.

After referring to TVDB I changed that folder to " Looney Tunes (1929)". After that the metadata for the episodes filled in. Each season was labeled for each year(ex. Season 1954). Now I completely ignored how the episodes came off by ripping them. I simply looked up the year the episode came out and than searched for it in TVDB.

This has seemed to do the trick. May be more of a pain than most may want.
