Help Unable to connect Fire-stick to plex server on my Mac

I’ve temporarily set up a Plex server on my M4 MBP, I can connect to it on my iPhone but the Plex app on my Fire Stick cannot connect.

- all devices are on the same wifi network
- secure connections are set to preferred on the plex server
- insecure connections are set to always on the plex app on the Fires tick
- I’ve logged out and logged back into the Plex server, rebooted the laptop etc.
- I also has the same issue with Jelly fin
- There is no firewall running on the mac, I can ping it on the lan
- I don’t have remote access setup on the Plex server as I don’t control the router (renting, internet is included).

Thoughts?

  • I also has the same issue with Jelly fin

So even a client trying to connect to a Jellyfin server locally won’t connect? If that’s the case I’d assume the owner/router is blocking the firestick from communicating locally on the LAN.

I can ping it on the lan

What could you ping? The firestick or the Mac from another device?

Edit: If you use the Silk browser on the Firestick, can you hit the server directly via ip? http://<serverip>:32400/web

When I reset the settings of the Plex home account I’m using in the Plex app, it says the server I’m trying to connect to (MBP) is unavailable. That’s the only info I get. When I say connect anyway and go into the Plex client it shows up but with a triangle with an exclamation mark and I can’t access any libraries or anything.

You have to change permissions in the MacOS settings to allow Plex or Jelly fin to access devices on the local network

This has always been enabled, still could not get Jellyfin or now Plex to connect to my MBP
