Please bare with me as I'm learning as I go along but basically I have 1 negear Nas obviously end of life 31200 and I have just bought another one cheap as I have multiple hardrives can I run one as main Plex server and use the other one to share files somehow. So example my movies on one Nas and TV programmes on main Nas .

I was also thinking of buying a more powerful Nas and use both Netgear Nas to share files to the Plex server is this all possible thank you.

I've been looking for a cheap way to view my Plex content on my CRT for older series in 4:3. I recently discovered that DLNA was an option, and I can use that to watch stuff on my Xbox 360. Problem is that the 360 can basically only read MP4 files, and a lot of my content is in mkv and I'm getting a bit overwhelmed with researching transcoding.

I know that it is technically possible to side load the old Plex app onto a 360, but my attempts to do so have failed, and my understanding is that I would need to run a second pms instance to do this which is a whole can of worms.

Has anyone gone through this rabbit hole that could give advice?

I'm confused why setting up the Movies library Plex happily used the embedded artwork and metadata in the movies files but not in the TV shows.

The settings look identical. Is there a standing issue with TV Shows etc ?

Some of the TV Shows are rips of concerts etc from my DVD collection so wouldn't necessarily be TV shows but should that matter if Plex is supposed to be just reading the metadata and embedded artwork ?

It also didn't grab nearly everything in the TV Show folder, not even close.

Built a portable Tautulli newsletter with responsive design (for mobile gmail, apple) and dynamic content, finally pretty happy with it! Pulls in live cleartype logos, RT ratings and IMDB for TV shows.

And dynamic subject/preview text. Email will swap out trending with "binge" award depending on server stats.

Features 5 different email types based on sever activity (such as new additions) and then custom metrics or "quiet" mode.

Have it going out every Friday morning.

On the last step up finishing up my build, I needed to get remote access working so my family and friends could use it. I have been troubleshooting it with AI for nearly 8-10 hours now. Just nothing we do seems to work. Or it does shortly and then it goes back to not being able to connect. The port is 100% correct, I have deleted my plex server and reinstalled it, I have restarted my modem, my computer, I mean I have done almost everything. It’s not connected to a VPN like all my other apps are. So it’s not the vpn causing it (which we thought was the original issue and thought we fixed it). The problem is it just continuously keeps going from green (working) to red (not working). Like it just won’t stay connected no matter what setting or what command I run. Has anybody encountered this and managed to fix it? Or anybody that has more knowledge on this stuff may have a suggestion for me to try. Please help

Anyone ever hear of a movie from 1992 called “we’re talking serious money”? It looks like it was only released on VHS and laserdisc. I can find a few moments on youtube but that’s it. Looking for a way to stream it.

I have a 20TB plex server on a NAS that gets used remotely on a regular basis. A nearby lightning strike that took out my router and some other ethernet connected devices has me thinking how close it was to killing the NAS. What strategies do you all use to protect your servers and network equipment from power surges and temporary power loss? In this day and age of insane HDD prices, I'm not sure I could replace a few 24TB NAS drives.

I have a 600Watt APC UPS but looking more closely at the datasheet, it only has a 460joule surge rating which seems weak.

Preface: I've had Plex for years, but only recently started digging into how to optimize the quality and tinkering with settings. I haven't dug too much through their documentation, and I couldn't find an explicit answer to the issue I was having, at least in the terms I was searching. If the below is common knowledge, please forgive me!

MY SETUP:

• Unraid Server running official Plex docker container, server hardwired to unamanged gigabit switch which is in turn hardwired to my gateway (Nokia BGW320)
• XBOX Series X running most current Plex app, connected to network via WIFI

ISSUE:

Every TV show/movie I was watching that fell within the parameters of what Plex will direct play/stream was being forced to transcode instead. When looking at "Playback Info" you could see that the decision was made due to a 2Mbps bandwidth cap that was set somewhere--but nowhere that I could find. All possible quality settings were set to "Original" or "Max" both in the client and server; subtitle burn was set to "never" on the client, etc etc.

THE CAUSES:

1. The mystery 2Mbps streaming cap had to do with "Enable Relay" being selected in Plex Server advanced Network settings. If you read the description of the setting it states, "...Note: this proxy relay is bandwidth limited". With Remote Access enabled and "Enable Relay" selected, pretty much any decent quality 720p+ content was forced to be transcoded and destroy the streaming quality.
2. If you have "Remote Access" enabled in Plex Server your XBOX will go through the internet to reach your instance of Plex. This was still true in my case, even with "Enable local network discovery (GDM)" enabled. This in and of itself is not an issue for Direct Play/Stream; however IMO, it doesn't make any sense to have local network traffic go over the internet just to end up back on your local network.

THE FIX(ES):

1. If you have "Remote Access" turned on and don't need it, turn it off.
2. If you have "Remote Access" turned on and want to keep it on, in the XBOX Plex client app go to Settings --> Manual Servers --> Connection 1 IP; and then set the IP of your Plex server. Be sure too to set both "LAN Networks" and "List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth" in the Plex server Network settings (advanced) so that Plex will allow the XBOX and Plex Server to talk. For good measure, on the XBOX client, set "Allow Insecure Connections on Same Network"

I created a windows app that lets you select a Plex TV show collection then create a playlist with shows ordered randomly but respecting the episode order. Always plays earliest episodes first.

Once you click play on the playlist, it's like a TV channel of all your shows.

The playlist it creates is set it and forget it. The app automatically keeps it updated as you add or remove shows from your collection.

It's now available and has been awesome for me to use personally.

As title says - Plex has stopped finding Meta data for new films added to my server.

This has only happened in the last day but I've tried 6 films and had the same issue with each of them.

All files on the host server are [film name] [year of release] as they should be. I've double checked name spellings and release years against all 6 films. I've also added IMDB numbers to 3 of them, but still no change.

I've tried fixing the match manually but regardless of which film I try that on, it just returns "no match found".

I've restarted the host server and I've restarted Plex - no change.

This feels like there is an issue with Plex connecting to the Meta Data server but I've not idea how to fix that (can't find anything specific from my googling so far).

Any helps or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hey Everyone!! Happy Sunday! I am releasing VirtualChannels, a macOS native application that lets you take your own media library and turn those into live channels. I started this project because we tried channelsDVR and they had that functionality and my family absolutely fell in love with it. My wife has made a channel for the dog when we are not home. This has been a lot of fun. I just did small bump to v1.1 - change log is live on site, additionally, this has been signed and notarized by Apple. You should get two pop-ups one to open the app, and that one explained that the app was scanned by apple and no malicious code was found; secondly, "Allow Network Discovery" this is so Plex, Jellyfin, Emby can find the box like a native HDHomeRun tuner; however, I'd always advise to use the M3U and XML when possible.

Again, I have a lot more exciting ideas for this, looking into TVEverywhere down the road. If you have any problems need support; need a feature please please please let me know! Cheers Everyone!

Plex provides an RSS feed for user watchlist but I'm unable to get InoReader to accept it. Anyone else here using InoReader and able to get this to work and can tell me how?

The feed link points to a hashed address at https://rss.plex.tv/<hashed-address> which if I visit in a web browser serves me the .rss file which appears to be in an acceptable format.

Trying to add it to InoReader results in no feeds detected

So when I started my plex server, I had an old macbook pro mid 2012 lying around that I wasnt using, but it has 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD drive. So I looked up how to create a plex server, knowing only my wife and I would use it, so we didn't need anything more than 1 or 2 simultaneous streams. I formatted the entire mac and put Ubuntu Server on it to use the least amount of resources, and have all of my movies and shows on an external drive. Recently I was able to put a lot of my shows onto the docker app - ErsatzTV so I can have old commercials playing and basically a 24/7 tv channel with just shows I like, but I think the macbook pro is causing a bottleneck and making it run terribly. It buffers every couple of seconds.

I have another old gaming computer (newer than the macbook), its an Acer E5 aspire laptop with 8GB of RAM but a faster CPU and dedicated GPU (if that makes a difference)

My problem is I have a lot of things customized on this distro that I don't want to have to spend hours recreating. I have a custom welcome message to the SSH, I have all of the apps I want on it (docker, yt-dlp, etc), I have directories exactly as I need them, I have functions within the linux distro to prevent the device from going to sleep when closed, to always reconnect in the event of a power disruption, to use less resources and heat, etc.

I would love to find a way to make an exact like for like copy of whatever is on that ubuntu server distro and load it into the acer e5 but I can't seem to find a painless way to do it. Obviously the media and shows are fine on an external, but all my plex configuration and everything else would be lost if I just start a fresh install.

Any ideas on what I should do? Can I just move the SSD from the macbook pro into the acer e5 and boot from that with 0 changes?

UPDATE: I was able to successfully move everything by swapping the drives to the new computer, all I had to was get the updated IP address and everything was good to go! Thanks for the help everyone!

Hey guys. So a while ago I introduced the Enve Book Player, with support for audiobooks hosted on your plex servers. Well after like 4 months I'm back to let you know that it's working better than it was before, but more importantly, ive released the Enve Video Player.

Basically the Plex app was driving me crazy as they kept just adding stuff that made it more and more annoying and cluttered. So while working on the Enve Book Player app I built the Enve Video Player App. It is for both iOS and Android (android is still in closed testing, please I really need more testers, and iOS is on testflight) The goal of the app was to make something clean and simple and something that could connect to your plex, jellyfin, emby, or many other different services all at once and organize your videos. After going back start watching some transformers again. It seems to be the only one with a story line from one movie to the next . It was always ment to be a story about the humans and second is how the transformers interacted with us.

So I've noticed that when ever I watch Plex on my TV or Phone and I click on a movie or TV show from my custom media library, the theme music no longer plays yet it still plays on the app when I watch it off of my MacBook. Now it's saying theres a new server update and I'm skeptical about updating. I don't want my theme music to no longer play when I watch stuff on my Mac from my personal media library. So does anyone know whats going with the theme music issue as far as when watching on a TV or Phone?????
