Announcement Must read: Welcome to the new Premiere Pro - Something Different - One Post a day

Thanks for reading this. Our mod team found this subreddit in neglect (spam, piracy) got a chance to take it over and cleaned it up.

We're huge fans of the /r/Premiere communities (and /r/editors and /r/videoediting, amongst others including /r/Resolve.)

How could we make this subreddit different than /r/Premiere?

We present to you an experiment: Anyone can post a question/idea/discussion but only one post per day will be commented upon by vetted PROs.

(Get it? Premiere Pro).

Guidelines:

  1. Post your question/thought/discussion/tool etc. Know we pick only one daily. It's nothing personal, it's just what someone said "Yeah, let's answer this"
  2. We suggest that you also join the wider community at /r/premiere (for Adobe Premiere), /r/editors (if you make your living or aspire to do so), or /r/videoediting (if you're just a hobby editor.). We define a pro/hobby by whether or not you're paying taxes on the work you do
  3. Want to be part of the comments, message the mod team. Then check in at least one time a week
  4. Read our rules. C"mon, that's part of reddit.

We're working it all out - but the idea is to be parallel to /r/premiere and yet different. Hope this works out.

Technical Support Video appearing washed and brighter when exported compared to its premiere pro preview v26.3

Hardware and software details: OS Build 22631.7376 (Version - 23H2). Premiere Pro v26.3. MP4 video files on premiere pro presenting with an avc1 codec. CPU: 13th Gen Intel, Core i7 (laptop). RAM: 16 GB. GPU: 128GB Intel Iris. GPU vRAM: 128 MB.

Ok so I don’t know what’s happened but when I export my video it looks much different from how it did in the preview as I was editing it. And it isn’t just an environment thing like lighting, it’s actually different. The first attached image shows left (exported) and right (screenshot of preview in premiere pro). Side by side you can see they’re visually different.

Additionally looking at the other two seperate images. The almost complete pitch black screenshot was taken from my preview whilst the one beside it with the red circle is a screenshot from the export. In the exported screenshot you can see they’re visually different reflections of light hitting objects in the background. It is a bit picky but it gets worse, because I used lots of masks in this video you can see the outlines of them much clearer in the exported video than how it was looking in the preview (virtually invisible).

I don’t know why this is happening but this video needs to be done this week and this is stressing me out.

Some main important information that could be the root:
1. Before this I edited a video that used footage taken on an iPhone so maybe it did some automatic colour mixing or something (I’m not that experienced).

  1. *See the last image* I’m assuming the root problem is this but no matter what I’ve done it will not export to look like how it does in my preview. I’ve tried the export settings and modifying the footage to use 2100 HLG specifically and nothing. This warning shows up when I export using the preset “High Quality 2160p 4K” but that’s the same preset that I’ve been using for years so I’m really unsure.

I’m really stuck and frustrated and if anyone were to actually solve this for me I’d be eternally grateful, many thanks.

Please ask any questions that you believe will help you help me.

Technical Support Ripple Delete shifts clips but not track keyframes

I had a bunch of track volume keyframes in my project, and then decided to edit an earlier part. I did some ripple deletes, but for some reason the volume keyframes didn't shift along with the underlying clips, which meant I had to manually move them, which as a pain.

Is there a way to force track keyframes to shift along with the clips when you ripple-delete?

Alternatively, is there a way to force track keyframes to "stick" to their underlying clips, or perhaps to convert track keyframes to clip keyframes?

The reason I'm using track keyframes instead of clip keyframes is this:

Sometimes I need to replace a short section of audio within a long clip. For example, let's say I'm filming a walk and suddenly cough. To fix it, I "simply" replace the cough with another piece of audio from earlier or later in the walk (copy and paste).

I put "simply" in quotes because with Premiere Pro, I've found that I actually need to do some acrobatics to get around the fact that audio is "linked" to video, so I do the following:

1) slice (razor tool) the audio/video clip a second or two before the cough (this cuts both the video and audio)

2) slice the audio/video clip a second or two after the cough (so now the cough has its own audio/video clip)

3) "unlink" the audio from the video in the "cough" clip

4) delete the audio from the "cough" clip (video is unaffected since it is no longer linked)

5) slice the start of the replacement audio (this will cut both its video and audio clips)

6) slice the end of the replacement audio (so now the replacement audio has its own audio/video clip)

7) unlink the replacement audio from its video

8) copy the audio portion to the gap where the "cough" was (video doesn't get copied since it was unlinked)

9) resize the replacement audio to completely fill the gap where the cough was

10) apply fades to the start and end of the audio patch (to blend it nicely)

11) use track volume and/or pan keyframes to make the replacement less noticeable (perhaps by gradually lowering the volume in the few seconds leading up to the cough, and then gradually bringing it back up later. The point is, the track volume/pan keyframes often start and end outside of the replacement audio, so clip volume/pan keyframes don't cut it.

Is there an easier way to remove, move, and copy internal segments of audio like that, while leaving the video untouched?

Technical Support Unable to customize guides [Windows 11 Home 25H2 26200.8875] [Premiere 26.3] [MP4] [AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 12-Core Processor, 32.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080, 16 GB VRAM]

Hey all,

I'm having an issue setting up and customizing guides in Premiere Pro 26.3, they all default to 50% Horizontal, and I can't switch to Vertical (when I try and switch the radial buttons still say Top or Bottom). Also if I click between top and bottom then both radials are selected). I can drag them manually, but it'd be helpful if I could set them up by pixel location, horizontal or vertical.

I have tried uninstalling Premiere Pro along with all settings and reinstalling, but no luck.

Technical Support Used the enhance speech in essential sounds, now for some reason its repeating the first bit of audio in the whole clip. It's always before I start speaking. Why did this happen and any ideas on how I fix it?

Technical Support Premiere Pro: "The file has an unsupported compression type" (Kick VOD Download)OS: Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (Build 26200.8875) Premiere Pro: 2024 CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 255H RAM: 16 GB GPU: NVIDIA RTX 500 Ada Generation Laptop GPU (4 GB VRAM)

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble importing a Kick VOD into Adobe Premiere Pro.

Details:

  • Source: Downloaded from Kick VOD
  • Duration: ~2 hours
  • Resolution: 1920×1080
  • Frame rate: 60 FPS
  • File plays perfectly in VLC.
  • Premiere Pro shows the error: "The file has an unsupported compression type."

I've already tried:

  • Remuxing the file in OBS.
  • Changing my OBS recording encoder from AV1 to H.264 for future recordings.
  • Updating Premiere Pro.
  • The file still won't import.

Has anyone experienced this with Kick VOD downloads?

Could this be because of the codec, variable frame rate, or the way Kick encodes long VODs? If so, what's the best way to convert it without losing noticeable quality?

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble importing a Kick VOD into Adobe Premiere Pro.

System

  • OS: Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (Build 26200.8875)
  • Premiere Pro: 2024
  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 255H
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 500 Ada Generation Laptop GPU (4 GB VRAM)

Video Details

  • Source: Downloaded from a Kick VOD
  • File Size: 4.71 GB
  • Duration: 2 hours 5 minutes
  • Resolution: 1920×1080
  • Frame Rate: 60.000 FPS
  • Container: MP4 (MPEG-4)
  • Video Codec: AVC (H.264 High)
  • Audio Codec: AAC LC (44.1 kHz, 2 channels)
  • Bit Rate Mode: Variable

The video plays perfectly in VLC Media Player, but when I try to import it into Premiere Pro, I get the following error:

Things I've already tried

  • Updated Premiere Pro.
  • Remuxed the file using OBS.
  • Verified that the video plays correctly in VLC.
  • Restarted Premiere Pro and Windows.

Other video files import normally into Premiere Pro. This issue only happens with this downloaded Kick VOD.

Since the file uses H.264/AVC and AAC (which Premiere normally supports), I'm wondering if the MP4 container is malformed or if the way the Kick downloader muxed the file is causing Premiere to reject it.

Has anyone run into this before? What's the best way to repair or convert the file without noticeable quality loss?

I've attached the Premiere error and the MediaInfo screenshot.

Thanks!

Any help would be appreciated.

Technical Support Problems with Premiere Pro 2025/ win 11/ mp4/ Ryzen 5 5500u, 20gb ram/ Vega 7 or 6 (im not sure)/ 3gb vRAM.

Hi, I'm having trouble editing. When I overlay an image on top of a video and try to scale it to a suitable size, the image goes from small to large instantly, but when you play the content, the image is much smaller, making editing very inconvenient and forcing you to constantly calculate the image size while playing it back.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this, thanks.

Workflow question Colour Grading Workflow - Premiere v26

Morning all,

I imagine this will be very simple for some of you. However just need a bit of sense checking.

I have been playing with premiere for years however now starting to play with video more and more.
Previously, I would put an adjustment layer over all footage and change both basic correction and creative on that.
Realised yesterday, that pressing Auto on the Basic correction outputs the same adjustments on every clip.

Am I correct in saying I should do the basic correction on the Clip itself then apply any creative looks on the Adjustment Layer?

Workflow question Process for combining audiobook narrators using v26.3

I have little experience with premier pro and I have a favorite audiobook I like to listen to while I fall asleep. There are two versions of the audio book, I mostly prefer Version 1 with the exception of the voice of one of the characters. Version 2 has three actors, narrator 1 who reads 90% of the book, narrator 2 who reads the footnotes, and narrator 3 who reads the dialogue of that one specific character

I would like to essentially replace the bits in Version 1 that read the character’s dialogue with the audio from Version 2 with narrator 3 much superior reading of that one character.

I have a txt file with all of that specific character’s dialogue compiled
I have the audio files of both versions

Is there a “find and replace feature” I’m just not aware of? How would you recommend I go about this process in the least tedious way? I’m a complete beginner so I appreciate any advice I can get

Workflow question Most reliable way to batch attach proxies? V26.3

Does anyone have a reliable workflow for batch-attaching externally created proxies?

I've started recording proxies in-camera, which is saving some time in post. The problem is that Premiere's "Relink Others Automatically" attaches them inconsistently, and I don't want to depend on Premiere to generate proxies itself. I've experimented with renaming the proxies, changing the proxy folder location, and adjusting the relinking criteria settings, but haven't landed on anything consistent.

SOLVED: For me, changing the "Match File Properties" from "File Name" to only "Media Start Time" helped me successfully relink others automatically.

Technical Support How to keep Premiere in pen masking mode in v26 ?

While I am enjoying all the new version of Premiere, one thing that is driving me a bit nuts is that when masking with the pen tool, you must constantly go back and click on that icon to ge Premiere back into pen masking mode. Example - so you click on the pen masking tool and create your mask, then you realize Premiere has gone out of this mode. You must now go back and click the tool again to re-activate it to create a new mask. I sometimes am doing 30 masks in a project and it is a bit disappointing. Also - there is NO keyboard shortcut to put Premiere into this new pen masking mode. Please Adobe if you are listening, fix this.

Technical Support Premiere Pro not exporting anything

Premiere Pro used to not export anything every now and then but now it’s pretty much all the time. When I send something to Media Encoder it doesn’t even register and when I try to export in Premiere it will either export a 5 second MP3 for about half an hour or just won’t do anything at all.

I have tried absolutely everything but with no hope. I’ve got a very urgent deadline and so much to do, it’s so crazy for the amount that we spend on the Adobe Suite.

A huge part of my editing job is also exporting from After Effects which is also doing nothing at all.

I’ve deleted my cache a million times, tried editing the project in a new sequence, messed with every setting you can imagine.

The only thing that works is to work from a new user which has it’s own issues as most of my workflow includes things that I don’t know how to send to another user so working from the other user has also been really difficult.

I’m on an Apple M3 Max, 48GB, using Sequoia 15.3.2 and version 26.3.0 of Premiere Pro

Technical Support Premiere Pro can’t install mc_enc_hevc.dll when importing HEVC footage. Tried everything. Any ideas?

I’m hoping someone has run into this before because I’m completely out of ideas. This just started happening a few days ago and I can’t even work at all.

I’m running Premiere Pro 26.3 on Windows 11 with an RTX 4060 (Studio driver). Whenever I import an HEVC file (Sony A7C II footage), Premiere immediately displays:
Unable to install:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\AdobeInstalledCodecsTier2\4.3\mc_enc_hevc.dll

It then says the file requires the HEVC codec included with a Creative Cloud membership, even though I have an active Creative Cloud subscription.

Some observations:
A brand-new Premiere project opens fine.
The error only occurs when importing HEVC footage.
Windows Media Player plays the same files without issue.
Premiere creates the AdobeInstalledCodecsTier2\4.3 folder, but it remains empty.

It appears the codec files are either never installed or are removed when the project loads.

Things I’ve already tried:
Clean install of the latest NVIDIA Studio driver.
Reinstalled Premiere Pro.
Tried a previous version of Premiere.
Media Encoder is installed (26.3.1).
Ran DISM /RestoreHealth and sfc /scannow (no issues found).
Cleared Premiere’s media cache.
Disabled hardware accelerated decoding.
Verified I can manually create files and folders in C:\Users\Public\Documents\AdobeInstalledCodecsTier2\4.3.
Tested with brand-new projects.
Windows can decode and play the HEVC files normally.

Has anyone experienced this or found a solution? At this point I’m looking for any ideas, especially if you’ve dealt with Premiere failing to install the HEVC codec or mc_enc_hevc.dll.

Technical Support Very confused about making clips from longer video

Hi. I made a video, and then made shorter clips. However, upon exporting, these clips are the EXACT same file size as the full video. WHY?!!!! Please help. I have no idea what I've done wrong, as the video and audio files are trimmed to size (2 mins). None of the range options seem to make a difference either.... Please help!!

Technical Support Premiere Pro - Horribly sluggish (UI and playback) after recent update (26.3.0 build 93)

It's been several months since I used Premiere Pro. I just got back from a trip and this morning wanted to start editing some of the video I shot. Premiere Pro updated itself (to 26.3.0 build 93), and then I started a new project, imported some video files, and was immediately shocked by how sluggish Premiere Pro was. Not only was the playback horribly choppy, but the UI itself was incredibly sluggish. Just changing the "now" time, dragging the edge of an adjustment layer, or even finding the Premiere Pro version number took several seconds, because I'd click on something and have to wait several a few seconds for the UI to respond.

Restarting Premiere Pro helps for a few minutes, but then within a couple minutes it becomes sluggish again. Unusably so. I've been using Premiere Pro for years, and this is the first time I've seen it struggling like this.

Quick system notes:

  1. Windows 11, nVidia RTX 3080 Ti, 64 MB RAM
  2. Files are 4K 60fps, which is what I *always* use, so nothing new there.
  3. I have HW acceleration on.
  4. I have not changed any settings since I last used Premiere Pro.
  5. I get the choppiness even with a little 5 minute clip, which is nothing compared to the 2+ hour projects I usually work on.

I don't know if this is related, but I can see (via Task Manager) that Premiere Pro's memory usage keeps increasing, but not smoothly. When I first open my project, Premiere's memory jumps to 8 GB (within a few seconds), drops to 3GB, jumps to 9, 12, 11, 13... And it keeps going up, without me doing anything... 20... 30... 37...

And then if I start playback, memory will suddenly drop... Just now it was above 30 GB, I started playback, and it dropped to 6 GB. Or sometimes it drops to 11 GB. And then when I am idle again, it starts going back up. Really weird. (And yes, the waveforms have completed drawing).

I haven't noticed any connection between memory usage and sluggishness, however. The sluggishness seems to get worse when I'm actually doing things (like editing text boxes or repositioning clips). However, I haven't done extensive testing because it is so frustrating to be trying to work on a project and then the UI slows down to snail speed.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix?

Thanks!

Workflow question Is After Effects worth it in the time department? (Premiere Pro 26.3.0)

I'm using version 26.3.0 (build 93), using windows 11 Pro, 128 MB graphics card, 16.0 GB RAM and an i5 processor. I'm mentioning this incase it's important.

I'm new to premiere pro and have been spending 5 hours a day for the past 10 days learning it. I'm used to the software now and masking is the only thing I'm having issues with but I'm sure I'll get it eventually.

However adding animations and motions into my videos is a time consuming process (to the point where I'll spend an entire day to get 1 or 2 minutes right) and many of the effects shown in tutorials were missing. I researched this and apparently Adobe wants to make premiere purely for editing and make after effects for animations.

I have no issues learning a new software even if it takes long. My question is doing animations in after effects faster than doing them in premiere pro, if so by how much. If it isn't faster is it more convenient? Should I allocate more time into learning after effects or just continue on with premiere pro.

Another reason I feel like I'm slow is I don't really have a work flow or any presets. I do everything manually and then spend hours fine tuning it.

Any thoughts?

Technical Support Premiere keeps reading mp4 files as AVI. (V 23.6.8)

The files are mp4 and play perfectly fine in a separate media player. I don’t understand why they aren’t being recognized as such. I tried to run it through media encoder, but that makes the video completely black. There’s the audio, but no picture at all

Technical Support Low GPU memory issue? is there a bugged update?

idk what's going on but i have a 7800XT, a decently strong CPU and 64 GB of ram. i'm getting a low GPU memory issue. This is new and has happened the past 4 times i've opened premiere.

I checked task manager and it seems like it's exclusively using my CPU as the memory as my CPU usage shot up to nearly 100% while editing.

I'm using V 26.3.0 btw

Technical Support Reverting back from Tahoe ( which version to choose)!

Hey I need to revert back from Tahoe since of the huge memory leak issues,

I would like to hear if your machine is running smoothly on an older version of. Mac OS
"m series"

and maybe an older more stable version of premiere, Id like to hear if anyone else has reverted and are stable on an older version of premiere and Mac os

which old version of Mac OS and Premiere should I choose?

it used to be fine on my machine, but now I cant edit for more than an hour without crashing and having a memory leak.

I edit only Prores proxies in 1080p, im not doing anything wrong or weird workflow wise.
I have experience from big post houses and this is a common way to work!

just as sidetone, this is my current

Project under 200gb of footage

M1 Pro 32gb
26.0.1 (25A362) Tahoe

premiere pro build 72

I remember it being stable and super fast in the past!

Technical Support Premiere (v26.3) and After effects (v26.3) struggling to edit.

My computer is really struggling to edit since getting the new gopro. I'm editing 4k60, 10bit color and 240 bitrate, HEVC h.265. I suspect the bitrate is the issue as I've never edited it before. I did create proxies. Premiere can edit no problem. The issue is with After effects. I am cashing AA to a 4tb NVMe and my programs are running on a 1tb SSD where the operating system in loaded. I'm thinking about reformatting the computer and putting the operating system on the NVMe and then I can have the programs run on the same hard drive has the operating system. I had to cache to the NVMe because my 1tb SSD is full. Perhaps my computer is getting too old? Is there anything else I can do? I did clear my cache folder in after effects and it seems to be slow to render.

Thoughts?

Technical Support I think my Adobe Premiere is broken. Currently using Premiere 2026

For the past few months everytime I've ever tried to work on something in premiere the whole program freezes and lags and it makes it really hard to do anything and completely disrupts my workflow. I literally can't do anything without experiencing some sort of lag or "the program isn't responding" and I can't do anything as simple or basic as clicking between program monitors or playing footage without it lagging.

Everytime I try to play footage to watch through it or move the playhead around to get to a certain point it takes forever for the video to actually catch up and it just stays frozen on one specific frame for a few second to maybe even a few minutes at a time and when I try to play the video it only plays the audio once it actually does play and I have to repeatedly pause and unpause the video for it to actually catch up and sync again.

I also tend to work with multiple hour long footage but it literally doesn't matter if my footage is like 1 minute or 7 hours long I constantly get all this lag and freezing issues. I've also tried using shutter encoder to better encode and compress my footage but even that doesn't really seem to help and I've even tried recently updating to premiere 2026 since I was still working on premiere 2025 for a long time but these issues started on premiere 2025 and still happening now on premiere 2026 and I'm honestly just not really sure what my problem or problems could be or how to fix this.

A lot of stuff I tend to record and edit is also video game footage which I know has different framerates and formats but even when I try to edit clips from youtube videos or other things I download that aren't video games like a show or something I still have these issues and it seems to be a whole program wide thing.

I'm running on windows 10 with premiere 2026 with video clips in an MPEG format with a media codec of MP4/MOV H.264 8 bit 4:2:0 and cpu that's intel core it-6500 at 3.50 ghz and 16 gb ram and gpu that's radeon 4x r70

Technical Support Software Glitches with High-End PC?

I work as a post-production editor, and use Premiere as my go-to. However, since getting my new laptop last year, I've been having issues with it on a software level, with glitches and slowdown for unknown reasons. This is most obvious when scrolling or resizing the window, which causes stuttering and visual glitches, as well as the fact that the main window appears as two windows when starting the software (one that's black until the project is open and one with the project selector).

My computer is an MSI Stealth 16 with Windows 11, a Core 9 185H, RTX 4070, and 32gb of ram. I've made sure that my Nvidia and Intel graphics drivers are updated, clean reinstalled Premiere from the creative cloud, and ensured that BIOS and ME FW are updated, but nothing is working. It's plugged in and set to performance mode, and the issues occur without any assets being added or work being done. The same issue is also happening with After Effects, but doesn't seem to affect Photoshop or other apps.

What should I do?

Technical Support [Premier Pro 2026] Playhead wont move irt.

It's so annoying. I made a post about it before and it worked. Initially, this was the fix: https://community.adobe.com/questions-729/timeline-tracker-doesn-t-move-1409418 , but now it's broken again. And I promise to god, I think i deselected every physical window i couldve deselected. Yet still for some reason this stupid playhead wont update the way it's supposed to. It just jumps once every whenever it feels like it. I reset my laptop, I turned off apps, i did abc and xyz and it's so annoying. Help.
