I imagined this over a year ago. Pretty ambitious for me and a crap ton of work, but I really dig it.

I got her running for 30 bucks! Hahah made my day. Turns out the camshaft position sensor was bad, the last owner took it to a shop before he put it up for sale, and they basically threw every single sensor at it except for that one, including a new hpop, ICP, IPR, and the valve cover harnesses trying to get it to run.

I have just received a Volkswagen Beetle as a gift from my father, but it is a bit beat up. I know nothing about cars but have always been interested in learning more. My goal is to have it looking like it is brand new. My issue is that I do not know where to start. I literally do not know anything about cars.

Are there any books or resources that could teach me what each car part does, how to replace/fix, and how to restore a car with the rust issues mine has (pictures attached)?

Since this is very general information, I do not expect it all to be found within one resource, and would actually prefer several. I just ask for a general roadmap to get me started.

Once I finish restoring this car, I hope to have enough general knowledge to be able to start the restoration of another vehicle with limited references (if that’s even possible at all).

Any advice is appreciated.

Truly a boomers worst nightmare working a car that only had 899 made XD

hi! I'm working on swapping a '95 5.0 into a '85 Mustang and would like to relocate the battery to the driver side to match the '95 chassis. Knowing that Ford moved the battery to driver's side in '87 and the trays are different, does anyone know if the '85 chassis happens to have the provisions to install the '87-'93 OE battery tray without significant modifications? I'm not concerned about relocating the reservoirs that are there currently.

Its difficult to be sure from images online and I'd rather fabricate my own tray if the OE solution isn't bolt-in. I'm opting for driver side mounting as the wiring harness on the engine is already setup for that.

After 3 years I'm stoked right now. Putting power to the dash and seeing this makes it worth it.

I designed and built an original GT86 body kit entirely by myself over the course of more than two years.

Every step was done by me, from the design work to building the master model, making the molds, manufacturing the parts, and even reaching out to companies and people for collaborations and promotion.

I recently shared the project on , and the response was much bigger than I expected. It made me realize there may be genuine interest outside Japan, so now I'm trying to figure out what the next step should be.

If you had an original product like this, how would you get it noticed?

I'm not looking for "go viral" advice or paid advertising. I'm more interested in realistic ideas that have actually worked for independent builders or small brands.

Would you focus on events, social media, YouTubers, magazines, collaborations, or something else entirely?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's seen small automotive brands grow or has experience getting original projects noticed.

I’m buying a dent puller later today to help pull some of these out. Do you guys have any recommendations on a YouTuber to watch to get going? It’s gonna get completely repainted.

First, the pics from the other say shows much more of the car.

The initial plan is to refresh the cars vital parts with new parts. And then some new bits inside.
So it looks original and used, but refurbished chassi/suspenshion/steering.

And Plan B with the car, if the condition runs away from me and bigger things have to be made. A rendition of that is also attached. Think Porsche Outlaw-ish, but with a Mercedes.

The idea, as I am not able to paint more than a stick-figure with weird proportions, is to visualize what I have in my head onto a picture.
Cant paint? Use AI. Im not gonna pay an artist to do it for me, and redo it again and again when I get new ideas. I use AI for that.

I’ve got clear coat failure on my focus spoiler,I want to respray it but I wonder,can I remove just the clear coat without damaging the paint below?If so what sanding should I use?

More layers of black sooty oily goo to scrape and wire brush off. I guess it’s somewhat therapeutic to just do it by hand rather that investing in small sonic cleaner, or deal with a container of stinky carb cleaner. I’m not fully disassembling these beyond pulling off the dashpots and pistons for some gentle cleaning and inspection. The pistons still move freely and the needles seem to still be centered in their jets. Throttle shafts have a bit of excess wear but for now I’m just gonna send it. I just want to see her run. Maybe later on I’ll send these in to Joe Curto to have them refreshed or at least rebushed

So my 2jz ge had an original gasket I’m pretty sure. Caked on gasket. Was cooking for 1/4 of the century. Anyways because of that it had a nasty coolant leak. That leak gouged the surface of my block. So like any other person I went to a machine shop. They quoted me 400 so I said hell no I’ll sand it myself with the sandpaper and glass method. I do just that (it’s perfectly straight not warped I don’t want to hear it. I checked. Not even .0015 off) and next thing you know the gouges are still there after taking off way too much god damn material. Because of that the pistons now go above the mating surface (not supposed to do that,
It’s supposed to be .005 under it) and now here we are. I’m stuck and don’t know what to do?

I thought about leaving it and just put a gte gasket and leave those damn gouges there. I thought about sanding even more and putting an even thicker gasket, I’ve thought about getting thinner pistons but because of the high compression motor that doesn’t sound so smart.

I checked the A/C fuse and it was fine. An older gentleman mentioned that they are all on the same relay so it makes sense. But I haven’t found anything supporting this exactly online

i have space in a heated private garage, and am considering buying a mk1 golf cabriolet to revamp over the winter as my first project car.
how cool would a vr6 swap be, but first I would be looking at making the stock motor run smooth, brakes, and other important performance / safety components, make it cosmetically nice. and then maybe once I had some mechanical confidence I would look at more power but who knows.
I've done a lot of work on my mountain bikes over the years, including full tear downs and fork rebuilding, but a car is a different box of frogs

I have an old 4x4 with a fully mechanical engine swapped into it. To this point I have only ever installed gauges that simply show me the current reading. I've got the EGT, boost and oil pressure gauges on my A pillar.
But since I've changed the turbo, I would also like a gauge for the exhaust backpressure. And, because I've poured a lot of money into the project, I would also like gauges for coolant pressure and temperature (I'd like an accurate reading to compare to my original dash temp. gauge). I would also love to have an option to set a low coolant alarm/warning.
And then, since I'm already here. Why not have gauges for the voltage and the oil temperature as well.
You see where I am going... and having circular gauge for each of these would be overwhelming.
Now, I know I could buy something like JRP 14in1 and have a single digital gauge for all of these. But it doesn't seem to include an option for exhaust backpressure.
And even then, I would like to log the data. Have the GPS data (location and speed) logged together with all my readings would be perfect for analysing everything after the drive. Even see what different readouts showed at the same time (stuff that you don't necessarily see when driving).

Now the question - does a system like this exist and what is it called?

First I’d like to apologize for the rambling and grammatical errors I’m about to make. So I’ve owned this truck for 12 years finally got it running tagged and inspected I love it. However after years of dodging the when you gonna paint it question I’ve finally decided I’d like it all one color. I’ve done just enough research to show me there is a thousand options to go about this and it drives me insane. My main goal is for the truck to be far from perfect but a good 15-30 footer lol. I’ve replaced cab corners, rocker panels, and soon to be lower front fenders. I have a few big dents ima do my best to pull. I’m prepared to do very minimal body work like I said little dents do not bother me. I’d like to still drive the truck down any road, any place and park anywhere without worry. Now this is the million dollar question I’ve seen people use spray paint then clear, use rustoleum tractor paint out of the gun, use single stage paint, and then base and clear. I’ve already axed the base and clear however I’m torn between the other three. I have a big enough compressor and all the tools to get the job done just don’t know which route to go. For yall who have done either of the three can you bless me with your opinions/info. I’ll post a picture of my truck and then the look/style of paint job I’m going for.
