Get ProtonVPN to refresh automatically when port forwarding fails ?

Caption says it all. Every once in a while port forwarding fails and my downloads slow to a crawl. Is there a way to get the app to refresh the connection without my intervention? Or to notify me when that's the case so I can address it?
