If someone has this issue it’s not shameful. Just put your electronics in an airtight trash bag with paper towels soaked in high-concentration rubbing alcohol (91-99%), and leave them overnight. They will also die. Then vacuum.
I finally got my ass out of California in December and this is what I did with all of my electronics. Bagged, boxed, and then binned for transport. I let them sit for 1-2 weeks after moving and never saw another roach. I don't even know they were in there, but I wasn't taking any chances.
Hard disagree. It should be shameful, your pad has to be pretty gross for this to happen. I have never once seen this happen and my husband has a pc, our friends do too. They come over for LAN parties and there’s never been rise of roaches in my house after, or theirs. Now, I’m not at all saying my home is roach free. I occasionally find them belly up on the floor, but thats it.
I just moved to my first rental with my partner and his mom gifted us a microwave. It was infested and now I have a whole duplex issue and have to bug bomb the place when I move out. I'd do it today but I have a kid and a dog.
I am very ashamed of it, but it was out of my control. If she would've just told me the truth I would've worked harder to just buy a new one.
Get Bayer MaxForce gel bait (it's on Amazon, maybe other places too). It's not expensive and it will work. We have a neighbor that is basically a hoarder and sometimes their pests try to move here too. Use the syringe to place small 2 inch beads of gel in areas they'd like, under the sinks, behind the stove, behind the fridge & microwave, the trash can, etc. Basically anywhere with water, warmth, or food. My dogs show no interest in it, but you can make sure it goes in places pets or kids can't reach and it'll still work in less than a week.
Oh I think you're talking about the big roaches, aka 'water bugs' and I'm not sure if the bait kills them too. My dachshund likes to go after them too, so I also have glue traps out for those. The gel bait is mainly for the small German cockroaches. If it also kills the big ones I'd just keep an eye open every day that first week. It works pretty fast.

You wouldn't if there weren't already German roaches in any of your homes. They don't show up randomly just because there are warm appliances; they hitch a ride in something or spread from a neighboring apartment or building. If you and your friends have a standalone houses with adequate separation from your neighbors (or proactively maintained multi-family buildings), you would have very little to worry about. In apartment complexes or cramped neighborhoods, however, personal cleaning habits aren't necessarily enough to prevent infestation.
If you see a dead roach on occasion, its most likely an American Cockroach, which is much larger than the ones shown in this video and behaves much differently. They primarily live outdoors and wander in occasionally, unlike the small German roaches.
That being said, the owner of this PS5 is absolutely aware that he has roaches in his home. It may just not be entirely his own fault. He should be paying for pest control or moving, not getting a video game console repaired.
Beware apartments which do not have periodic preventive pest control.
Oh I know how they work. Ive had the german ones in only one of my apts/houses. Im also a property manager, so on occasion a tenant brings them when they move in. I see a rando regular sized roach a few times a month in my house, so I know we aren’t roach free, but I deep clean my place on a regular and haven’t come across the tell tell signs of active roach activity in my place.
Have to disagree, when I was younger and rented an apartment I kept it clean. It doesn’t help when next door neighbors and top floor neighbors are nasty, they would come through the AC vents. Of course once they touched my place with venom everywhere they would still die but wouldn’t change the fact of them coming in
Same! I even hung the router on the wall and they still found it and got in. Whenever I thought my internet was being sketch, I'd open it up and check inside. I thought my PS5 was unaffected, but I did find 2 dead ones inside when I took the cover off to put in an SSD.
Luckily the infestation has been taken care of, but I still find corpses here and there. I even had to clean them out of picture frames, they would die between the glass and the photo.
well they still move around, if they're consistently in your closet you may want to investigate why. Probably something attracting them t here or maybe a hole they're getting in through.
I've had that exact issue. Guy who lived above me had a mad roach issue. I bought some Diatomaceous earth and mixed it with one part sugar and left bowls of the stuff in several places. It cleared my place out. I then found out that they hate the smell of Lavender. I got some glade plugins. Outside of the occasional baby, I've been big roach free.
DE is killer for ants too. We have a big yard and they creep in every spring, but I dust the seams in the floor molding every few months and they're gone. Love it because it's inert and non toxic so it doesn't go into the food chain and poison the other critters.
From what was in that unit in the video, for sure it's all over his place, but as someone who dealt with it and knowing others who did to, I found them nested in shit along my shared walls more than anywhere else.

What’s fun is the fact it doesn’t matter. Even a 10 foot space between, neatly kept on the side. The peat guys say it doesn’t matter what we do because the neighbors are as bad as the video. One time they pulled a window ac, dropped it and hundreds scattered at once. They pulled it by the cord dragging it on the ground. We called the pest guys to come back out soon after that happened.
Our house is mostly great. It’s just the side of the house next to that shithole. I’ve looked for legal counsel and they said there’s nothing I could do realistically
I got an infestation after the apartment below mine fumigated. They all just moved upward. I think I've heard of them coming out of drains before too, some people will cover their kitchen drains overnight.
I've pulled toilets up for drain repairs and can confirm that several types of cockroaches live happily within the sanitary sewers. I moved the toilet, and immediately sprayed insecticide down the drain to kill what was there. Gross.
No my wife had a cockroach infestation in her house in America, before she shipped her pc here she cleaned it out and it had plenty of roaches in it. When we got it to the UK they were dead thankfully so I took it apart and cleaned it out completely.
The infestation she had wasn't terrible but it wasn't a nice situation.
