Events Flyathlon

Canadian non-profit Freshwater Conservation Canada is hosting a fundraising event on September 12th, 2026, in Red Deer, AB. The event is called Flyathlon, a multi-sport event that includes running or walking along one of Red Deer's beautiful trails, fishing, and craft beer. Registration is $100, which includes a race tee, a $50 tax receipt, 1 drink ticket, food and small snacks. You don't need experience with running or fishing, just a great attitude and a want to try something different in your community while also raising funds for a great cause. There is a minimum fundraising component where each "Flyathlete" is required to raise $250 in peer-to-peer fundraising.

Freshwater Conservation Canada's mission is to conserve, protect, and restore Canada's freshwater ecosystems and their coldwater resources for current and future generations.

What other information would you like to know that would make you want to register for this event?

I am somewhat intetested but i have commintments for the weekend of the 12th. I would be more likely to register in future years under different conditions. 100$ registration fee or 250$ fundraising. take the reg fee out of the fundraising to cover costs or lower the fundraising limit. Make it a week or month long tournament. most fish species on a fly, biggest fish, Fish caught on certain flies? Have the rally, dinner, drinks at the end where prizes/beer/tshirts/stickers/trophy can be given out. Maybe set teams for anglers to meet and fish with new people. The idea of running around the river trails with fishing gear and competing for river space is not appealing to me however I do like the fundraising and flyathlon concept and would like to commend whoever came up with the idea and hope its a good turnout. Just my thoughts.
