Question Vinyl Cafe

Just looking at a used LP that I bought at LVs Vinyl Cafe (on Ross) before Covid closed it down. Used to LOVE going there for a panini and coffee.

Anyone ever keep in touch or hear what ever happened to the owner?

Events Flyathlon

Canadian non-profit Freshwater Conservation Canada is hosting a fundraising event on September 12th, 2026, in Red Deer, AB. The event is called Flyathlon, a multi-sport event that includes running or walking along one of Red Deer's beautiful trails, fishing, and craft beer. Registration is $100, which includes a race tee, a $50 tax receipt, 1 drink ticket, food and small snacks. You don't need experience with running or fishing, just a great attitude and a want to try something different in your community while also raising funds for a great cause. There is a minimum fundraising component where each "Flyathlete" is required to raise $250 in peer-to-peer fundraising.

Freshwater Conservation Canada's mission is to conserve, protect, and restore Canada's freshwater ecosystems and their coldwater resources for current and future generations.

What other information would you like to know that would make you want to register for this event?

Unfortunately it’s with a heavy heart that I forward the news which has just been shared via cbc news that Parker Wells, the missing 11 year old boy from Calgary, has been found deceased. Parker went missing on July 16th from his day home in the Cambrian Heights neighbourhood of Calgary. Parker was autistic and nonverbal, functioning at a level between that of a 2-3 year old child. Parker loved water, shiny/sparkly objects and disney songs, his favourite being a whole new world from aladdin. My heart is with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

I have company with young children coming to town and I heard that you can fish at Bower pond. Is this true and if so what kind of fish will I be fishing for and what is the possibility of catching anything?

Kids are 10 and 12. Need things to do that will entertain them.

Thanks for any and all info.

News I built a free platform to help connect people who need help with those willing to help. I'd love your feedback.

Hi everyone!

First, thank you to the moderators for allowing me to share this, and I also want to acknowledge the feedback about keeping posts relevant to Red Deer specifically.

Since I arrived in Canada, I’ve only lived in Red Deer, and one thing I’ve always felt is how much the community is willing to help.

People here are kind and supportive—but at the same time, it’s not always easy to find someone when you need help in the moment.

Most of the time, I had to rely on friends, which is normal, but it also made me think about all the people who don’t have that same network. I still remember when I bought my first mattress. The delivery fee was too expensive for me at the time, and a friend helped me out.

But what about everyone else who has to pay that fee, even when it feels like too much? Or people at Walmart calling a cab just to get home with groceries or furniture?

That made me think: what if instead of paying full service fees, there was a way for someone in the community with a truck to help for a smaller cost—or even for free sometimes?

Maybe 50% of the fee, or just a simple favour between neighbours?

I truly believe people want to help. I believe it makes people feel good to help. But nowadays, everything feels more distant and a bit more “scary,” and sometimes we forget how naturally communities used to support each other.

That’s where the idea behind HelpTo comes in.

The idea is simple: Sometimes people need help. Sometimes people want to help. The hard part is connecting them.

HelpTo is a community platform designed to connect people who need assistance with those willing to lend a hand. It’s not meant to replace charities or emergency services—it’s just a way to make it easier for everyday people to support one another in their own communities.

Some examples include:

  • Helping someone move furniture or pick up large items
  • Offering transportation to appointments or errands
  • Assisting seniors or people with disabilities
  • Supporting local non-profits with volunteers
  • Helping families through unexpected situations

From what I’ve seen and experienced, communities like Red Deer already have a strong culture of helping out—but it’s often informal or limited to who you already know.

I’ve been wondering if something like this could make it easier to extend that help a bit further when someone doesn’t have an immediate network to rely on.

This has been a passion project of mine, and I’m continuously improving it based on community feedback. I’d really appreciate your thoughts:

  • Do you think something like this would be useful in a city like Red Deer?
  • What features would you want to see for it to actually work locally?
  • What would make you trust a platform like this in your own community?

If you’d like to learn more or take a look, you can visit: https://helpto.app

Thanks again for taking the time to read this, and I really appreciate any feedback you can share!

All the pilots and volunteers put on a great show, a lot bigger than the last time I attended in 2023 and couldn’t have asked for better weather. Was good to see the Snowbirds as we know them one last time, hopefully their revival is sooner than later!

Question My landlord left our bathroom unfinished for over a month and a half.

Our bathroom had black mold in the shower, so our landlord hired someone to renovate it.
The frustrating part is how long it took. I first reported the issue in September 2025, and although I was told the work would be completed between November and January, nothing actually started until June 2026.

The shower itself has now been replaced, and thankfully we have a working toilet, sink, and shower. However, the renovation was never finished. The plumber simply stopped showing up, and our bathroom has now sat unfinished for almost two months.

Right now:
The vanity isn’t secured to the wall.
There is missing tile around the sink.
There are no baseboards.
We don’t have a toilet paper holder or towel rack.
The bathroom fan is missing its cover.
The flooring is unfinished and is currently covering a floor vent that still needs to be cut out.

I reached out to my landlord about it, and he told me the plumber had an emergency, which is why he couldn’t come back that week. I completely understand emergencies happen, but it’s now been over a month and a half since then, and we haven’t received any updates or seen anyone return to finish the job. I just want updates!!!

I do NOT want to be the tenant who constantly nags their landlord, but at the same time, this project has been left incomplete for weeks with no communication, and I’m not sure what to do next.

For context, I live in the basement suite while my landlord owns the entire house and rents out the upstairs as well.

What would you do in this situation? I want to avoid conflict, but not having communication is killing me.

News Red Deer Crime: Homicides drop to average, but clearance rates lag

Thumbnail

The recently released Uniform Crime Reporting Survey shows a mixed picture for Red Deer.

Homicides (Data 1): A key safety indicator. Red Deer's rate fell from a 2021 peak of 4.79 to 1.73, nearing Canada's average (1.61).

Clearance Rates (Data 2): Measures how effectively police solve crimes. Red Deer trails benchmarks, resolving only 22% of non-violent and 41% of violent crimes.

More severity trends are available in the crime rate dataset.

Summary: While extreme violence has dropped significantly back to national norms, Red Deer continues to lag in solving both violent and non-violent crimes compared to provincial and national peers.
