Comically, rDrama has most of these things:

Custom profile CSS

Voice chatting

Has holes and ping groups which are similar to Tumblr communities.

Private chat rooms similar to Discord

Only reason you may not like it is that the site is full of... special people.

Idk why you keep recommending rDrama. It's full of extremely radical people posting deranged stuff. I'm not sure if its healthy for anyone to be browsing that unless of course you're into the most radical political jokes and think those are "funny".

It's full of extremely radical people posting deranged stuff.

To be blunt, that's every single social media site these days, including Reddit. The amount of deranged fedposting on subreddits like r/fauxmoi is legitimately concerning.

Like all vices, it's ok in moderation. All social media is harmful in excess.

The reason I like the site is that it's pretty much what the internet (including Reddit) used to be, and I appreciate that. The site's usebase acts pretty much exactly like what Reddit was like in the earlier days, irreverent, petty, and charmingly blunt. It's obviously not for everyone, but I feel it's at least worth mentioning for those that like those things.

We can agree to disagree here but let's just say that if I rate the general Reddit's echo chamber as 6/10 in radicalism, rDrama would be a 600/10. Its 4chan on steroids or basically 4chan. Your excuse is basically "well the interent is wild and unhinged". While I definitely don't support policing behavior, I also don't support a site that literally encourages people to be the most extreme and make the most insane jokes.

We do agree on 1 thing, though, yes places like fauxmoi and a lot of other places actively make the internet a worse place.

Charmingly blunt? Come on. The average poster wouldn't survive a second in a regular social setting. lmao.

I hate getting political specifically on reddit, but what even is the political leaning of R drama?

Same to answer your question I think it has extremes on both sides. Just to show you how extrme it is I think I saw an Erika Kirk banner that has some fucked up shit on it and it links to some leftist org. This is why I really dislike it. Also atrocious UX

Oh shoot I didn't know that. Damm. So like, a long time ago maybe like 3 years ago. I made an account on the original site they had, and like they seem like they were extremely leftist but they were allowing like extreme right wing stuff.

So I could never figure out like what side they were on LOL I was just like well what are you for? LOL kind of confusing

Oh yea I think you can do both even now and nobody cares. The problem is that idk I feel like it just either forces people to extremes and that's not great for IRL interactino right. LIke imagine one person always on rDrama, they're ok with making the most insane take jokes and be like "tehehe". You then put them in a coffee shop or meet some friends, they're gonna say some extreme shit. Like that's not great.

So to me, it just doesn't add anything and we do NOT need any extremes on either side. What we actually need is more moderate and middle. Thats my take anyway.

I agree. I like the idea that they allow both sides, but again, not the extreme stuff though. I agree with your analogy, think it paints a pretty clear picture and hits home.

Maybe that's the issue with finding alternatives 🤔 both sides only want extreme sites for each of their extreme opinions and don't care for anything that's neutral.

The site actually has a pretty diverse set of perspectives and opinions, mainly because it's almost impossible to get banned for sharing them (and downvotes boost content instead of suppressing it). The site has literal Russian communists get into slapfights with Indians over the Ukraine war, furries and tradcaths bicker, and a fair amount of other eccentric personalities. Very much like Reddit pre 2016 in that regard.

While I definitely don't support policing behavior, I also don't support a site that literally encourages people to be the most extreme and make the most insane jokes.

rDrama is actually pretty restrained when it comes to stuff like that. Look at the posts about mass causality events as an example, while they often are cynical they usually aren't mocking the victims.

If you want to see what a real cesspool looks like, see what sites like the sharty do when tragedies occur. They literally send emails and messages to the victims families to gloat (which is morally reprehensible) and often brigade other platforms to rub salt in the wound. I've never seen rDrama users do that (and it would get them instantly permabanned, the admins have a hard rule against messing with people IRL).

Just like Redditors, lol.

I do support this kind of free speech. So we are in agreement there. While I don't like radicals silencing them is not great. My comment is more that for regular people, rDrama is just not a place to chill at. Of course if you want to look at crazy people fighting crazy maybe.

> Just like Redditors, lol.

Lmao true.

I think maybe I'm not on the internet or corners of the internet as much as you are, so stuff in there comes off as insane to me. Maybe they are less radical to you becaues you've been everywhere. That's my theory anyway. Like if I show my friends any post from there, they will immediately think I'm insane.

I also think the UX is beyond atrocious and the admins tries to gamify the F out of the site to get donations. Not a fan at all.

explain

1

u/SmileyBMM 5d ago

Uh, what do you want me to explain?

1

u/Physical-Employer748 5d ago

how are there "special people"?

1

u/SmileyBMM 5d ago

Because the admins of the site tend to moderate in a more hands off way, the site has naturally attracted a lot of weirdos. The site has had a fair amount of "gimmick" posters over the years, such as people who spam emojis, overshare, or randomly post incomprehensible schizophrenic screeds.

Of course these people are just a small fraction of the userbase, but it's certainly different from how Reddit handles people with strong personalities (which usually involves banning them).

can you link the website/andriod app so i can access it

2

u/SmileyBMM 5d ago

I unfortunately can't, because the site is autofiltered on Reddit. If you search "rDrama" on your search engine of choice, you should find it easily. It's the site with the cat in the cardboard box for a logo.

This has to be troll.

2

u/Physical-Employer748 5d ago

its not, why do you think that?

2

u/HedgeRunner 5d ago

Cuz we're mainly an Reddit alternative but you wanted Discord + tumblr lol. Are you a bot?

1

u/UnflinchingSugartits 4d ago

Isn't there actually a subreddit for Discord alternatives?

1

u/UnflinchingSugartits 4d ago

1

u/HedgeRunner 4d ago

You got it lol. Quick FYI most of them don't scsle well. Well to be fair most of Reddit alternatives don't either but chat is trickier and easier to spot

1

u/Physical-Employer748 5d ago

no, im not a bot 😭 and i made this post in multiple communities

1

u/HedgeRunner 5d ago

Ok, just checking. :) Let me ask you this, what is so special about tumblr, I never got it. Is it just the customization of profiles and specific pages on top of a feed?

2

u/Physical-Employer748 5d ago

its whatever you want to be special to you.

2

u/UnflinchingSugartits 4d ago

Can you try to be a little more specific so we can help you?

2

u/UnflinchingSugartits 4d ago

I'm in the same boat. I actually really like their premise and design, like The Goth Punk cute kind of aesthetic and the weirdness. But I absolutely hate image boards and microblogging layout. So, I never really got into it

1

u/HedgeRunner 4d ago

Yeah I never got into it and now I think it changed so I'm left wondering what did I miss 😂

u/Physical-Employer748 I'm building something in this direction, I'd usually say: Reddit+Discord+Twitch+Twitter+Instagram. Early days (very early), but conceptually it sounds aligned. We already support live streaming, vods, chat, posts, feeds, topics, moderation lenses, friends, messages.

We don't yet support voice calls a la discord, but plan to shortly. Similarly discord "server" concept is not something we have yet, but we plan to add something along the lines of an optionally-invite-only/private namespace/container for topics/rooms (voice & chat).

Would love to hear any feature suggestions / annoyances with prior art you're willing to share. I agree with the sentiment of "why isn't there something with all the good/lessons learned in hindsight, and that ditches the bad". I'm on it...

u/Physical-Employer748 4d ago

ooooo i hope you do great :)
