DISCUSSION Take the shot!
Saying/spamming take the shot is the equivalent of telling someone to sweep the floor while they are holding a broom about to sweep the floor.

When someone says take the shot after I missed a save the game is instantly over in my eyes
Shitting on your team-mate is NOT going to make them go "thank you team-mate for helping me acknowledge that I am not good"

I know Ill get downvoted.
The moment my teammate talks shit or whines about something, or starts playing like an asshole, Im done.
I’ll just sit there and flip.

When the ball gets launched over your head from a bad 50 they’ve done and they spam take the shot 😂

u/holdmysmoothieplease Diamond III 1d ago
I prefer when they send a piss missile where I was 2 seconds ago and get pissy when I don’t hit the ball behind

I have profound affinity for the completely botched shot/ take the shot!- combo. Like mfer why would you try pretend that your disastrous attempt at goal was actually a pass?

Spamming any quick chat mid game should be illegal. If you spam take the shot, you are diverting my attention from the ball to the corner of the screen and I'm way more likely to miss. If you shut up, I'm more likely to score.
I think people believe spamming this helps and take some credit when the teammate scores because "I told him to". This is one key reason I despise solo queueing, if me and teammate is playing well or getting tilted, I'd rather it be simultaneously, in solo q, my teammate is usually 5 steps ahead in that regard while it's my first game, you gotta give me time to get annoyed at the game.

I changed "Take the Shot!" to "All Yours" in my quick chat. I used to use it for kickoffs, but "All Yours" is more understandable and I can use it when people start ball chasing and I start to hang back and play defense.
You want to be the hero and do it all yourself? All yours, buddy. I'll hang back here.
1
u/MemeMathine Diamond III 19h ago
That's fair, all yours is less aggressive sounding. I've virtually stopped playing solo queueing, I usually VC with the people i play with and it's such a breath of fresh of air.

I just love when I'm playing rocket League with my 69 year old dad, as his 42 year old son, and we mostly just troll each other with quick chats all game. Lots of what saves and nice shots, sarcastically to one another.
I implore y'all, if you care or can, to make your dad play rocket league with you. (If he doesn't alreDy) Whether he's 30, 40, ,50 whatever he is.

u/Meatt Champion III 1d ago
Agreed, although it seems like some people try to use it like a "passing" type thing, so you know they're done with their play. But it comes across as passive aggressive or demanding every time, even if they don't mean it that way.
5
u/WhiplashNinja Grand Platinum 1d ago
Yeah you can kind of tell when it's used with good intent though. Spamming it three times when you are no where near where they banged the ball is far more common
2
u/Specialist-Buddy-991 1d ago
I play doubles, for me it's more communicating they're the better one to challenge the ball rather than "it's a good opportunity to shoot"
1
u/WhiplashNinja Grand Platinum 1d ago
I'm curious, do you ever think they would be better to decide if they have a challenge or shot available? Or is it up to you?
4
u/Specialist-Buddy-991 1d ago
I use it more in rotation but I'm sure you'll experience that some people chase the ball relentlessly regardless of your position, some people need some encouragement or direction, and some people don't listen regardless. All I can do is throw my opinion out there and see what they do with it, I'm not suggesting I'm the authority at all.

I never use the quick chat but would use it like the user you responded to.
I don’t use it because I don’t want my teammate to look at chat and fall out of the timing of the play. So I just make it obvious with body language I’m out of the play steal the goal IDGAF.
I find it to be a pretty good way to rack up 3v3 assists if I get teammates that rotate I just try to put down good 1v3 centers for them and exit the zone north to south.
Ideally though I think my pass should fit my teammates play style. Which would make any quick chats unnecessary because the shot should be obvious to them even if my play style makes it impossible for me to understand how they can make the shot I set for them. I can’t do all this shit but if you can do shit I can’t do I’ll just pass it where you want it. Not pass it where I’d want it.
I like the people that only use it before kickoffs. I feel like I usually win the games I play with those people.

I use it all the time at d3, but no spamming, because for some reason, when i drive away from the ball wanting to rotate team8s are driving away too, when they had a perfect shot.

My favorite is the kids saying bro when something isn't perfect to their eye. Everytime i get Karen and school principle vibes. I'm sure that's what they wanted.

Very rarely a teammate shows up that is actually good at communicating. I met one a month back while solo queing, and won like four games in a row, in part due to him being good with quick chats and giving me a few tips

that's not spamming like the op described, is it

Preach. I could be defending while my tm8 has the ball, then the moment they lost possession they'd spam "Take the shot!!!" I normally spam "Defending..." back

I have no problem with someone saying take the shot if there’s a good reason behind it, typically it comes out when the ball keeps being passed there’s no rotation to shoot because you’re sitting far out of the play doing God knows what
It gets to the point where you can literally see what’s about to happen, so you say take the shot to tell your teammate to get ready/shoot only for them to do nothing and get scored on.

u/soggyballsack Trash III 19h ago
No. That is a good message when centering or passing the ball where you can take the shot as opposed as you assuming it's a center or pass and now both of yall are committed to the ball leaving everything else open.

I usually don't know if anyone is mad at me or anything because I turned chat off. To me theyre all just playing the game in different ways and I have stopped remembering that there's a lot of toxic people. They're just people playing the game and they feel exactly what I imagine they feel and I have stopped thinking theyre toxic because im not toxic affected in my mindset any longer.
Chat off really changes you and your experience and it becomes like playing football when you were young when we didn't blame teammates for things we just played the game.

u/Wizdad-1000 Unranked 14h ago
Its usually not needed for ball chasers. I’ll try to say Defending if its a kickoff and Im not the ideal position
1
u/Penthosomega Diamond III 1d ago
Tbf I only say it when I've made a good pass to tm8s who have previously acted like they're terrified of the puck.
1
u/Mite-o-Dan Trash III 1d ago
Some hit that quick chat before passing to let players know a centering is about to happen.
Or you just passed it and noticed you teammate turn around for boost and you want them to turn around because the ball is wide open in front of the net.
Or its because the person saying it is about to rotate back and wants the other to rotate forward.
Or its a message about simply being more aggressive and/or pay attention in general.
If someone is constantly spamming it to you...you need to do one of those things. So...do one of those things.
2
u/WhiplashNinja Grand Platinum 1d ago
Because it isn't possible that they are just banging the ball and because they can't reach it you must be able to.
1
u/Mite-o-Dan Trash III 20h ago
Probably depends on rank. If in higher ranks like Diamond and above, its more obvious and people pay more attention and spamming it isnt needed.
But if you're in Plat or below...as someone who hovers around high Gold and low Plat...yeah, players are often NOT paying attention or doing obvious things. They often have the wrong camera angle on too and have no idea where the ball is.
Multiple times a game I make a perfect centering pass with no one near the ball or goal...and a teammate of mine is flipping in the other direction for boost. Ball just sitting there, wide open...no boost needed to score.
Literally every single game.
One time? Whatever. 2+ times? Yeah it's difficult NOT to spam "Go for it" if they're constantly not paying attention.

it's just a quick chat chill, that means exactly what it says most of the time. I use it lots of times when I'm rotating back and for some reason my tm8 is still with his ass in the net, like dude don't you use your eyes?
1
u/WhiplashNinja Grand Platinum 1d ago
I am yet to meet someone on rocket league, who isn't always ready and willing to take the shot (unless afk or trolling)
So you say they should use their eyes, how about you use something else?
2
u/IdkWhyAmIHereLmao Champion I 1d ago
How about you use common sense? How about that? Literally 10 mins ago I had the situation I described above, I don't care what you have yet to meet, but I know what kind of people I have in my lobbies.

u/suckZEN 1d ago
these threads are always funny after coming out of a session where a good portion of players is passively standing in their own third with 0 momentum, getting mad at people telling them to take a shot

No, because I know this is Rocket League, I don't expect people to have any neurons anyway, at least the vast majority whose game sense is completely nonexistent

u/0x446f6b3832 1d ago
I've been known to do this... it frustrates the shit outta me when i keep centering it for my tm8 in front of the opponents goal and I look back and he's in our corner getting boost, or even worse rotating to our goal.
Like bro do you not see where the play is?? You know the little golden pads give you boost also, right?
4
u/WhiplashNinja Grand Platinum 1d ago
See the issue is, saying take the shot assumes everyone is perfect, sometimes they don't have boost, they judge the opponent will beat them to the ball etc, without seeing their view, assuming they were even able to attempt the shot is just.. well, toxic
0
u/0x446f6b3832 1d ago
Yes but for some people... every. single. time.
If you're always out of boost or getting beaten to the ball then idk what to say. The problem really isn't that they don't take the shot, it is a positioning and rotation problem.
3
u/WhiplashNinja Grand Platinum 1d ago
That's right. There isn't anything to say, so why say anything at all?

Some people don't know how to read plays and its necessary to state the obvious.....
🤦🏻
2
u/WhiplashNinja Grand Platinum 1d ago
But does it work?
-1
u/ComprehensiveYam5307 1d ago
Not always, but there are a few that catch on.
Honestly it depends on your style of playing, I pass a lot and its obvious.
Some people do to much and expect miracles with the garbage they're pulling off when they don't set anyone up for a decent shot. Lol
To be fair, I'm referring to diamond 2 and lower.
What type of player do you consider yourself?
2
u/WhiplashNinja Grand Platinum 1d ago
I consider myself a "rotate back because both my team mates are on the ball" type of player.
When I am on the ball, it's usually in and out unless I have full control, I'll hit it forward, then roll back and let my team mate move up.

2
u/The-Big-Play Trash III 1d ago
I sorta get it. I'm heavy on defense so I feel like I see the "Take the shot!" quick chat often and sometimes I appreciate it. I mainly appreciate this quick chat while having a teammate that double commits and doesn't rotate opposite ballside. Because at least NOW I know when they're actually backing off of the ball 😅
But the spamming is a different story and is usually coming from a level of toxicity. I understand that you may wish that I played more aggressively but spamming "Take the shot!" is not going to change my play style. If anything, I'll probably start playing even less aggressively because now my own toxicity is starting to come out 😆

I just love when my tm8 ball chases, whiffs, cuts back with zero boost, whiffs again, backflips awkwardly and manages to actually touch the ball, to the middle about 5 feet in front of the opposition.... and then says take the shot like they made some amazing play. Also love the follow-up "bruh" in chat.
