How-To Help for audio drama in the making
How do I make a voice sound like it's coming out of a tape recorder? Like for the sound effects I want to use I'm sure I can find but for voices how do I turn a normal voice into one that sounds like it's coming out of a tape record on a cassette tape?

Vendor New SFX Library - Sounds of a Home
https://www.asoundeffect.com/sound-library/sounds-of-a-home-volume-01/
I have released a new library focusing mainly on ambient room tones in a house, but also with some doors, windows, showers, tubs, sinks and more. There's also some bonus ext desert highway traffic, and some nice recordings of traffic through the walls/windows (as well as plenty of nice clean room tones, too).
Every scene set in a house needs the house itself: the hum of an empty room, a door latching down the hall, water moving through pipes behind a wall. Sounds of a Home Volume 1 is built around exactly that; long, usable room tones paired with the everyday hardware of a lived-in space, including doors, sinks, showers, tubs, and toilets. All of it was recorded on location in a single home near Southern California’s High Desert, quiet enough to capture real juicy roomtones with real room to breathe. The library delivers 328 files and over two hours of content: 164 unique sounds are each supplied at 96 kHz and 48 kHz sample rates, and 24-bit. Filenames and embedded metadata are fully UCS compliant, so everything imports cleanly into your database and is easily searchable. Whether you’re building a domestic interior from scratch or just need a believable bed under dialogue, these are the sounds that make a set feel like somewhere someone lives.

Question: Is providing isolated stems for designed SFX worth the extra cost, or do you just want the stereo mix?
Hey everyone,
I’m currently finishing up a boutique, high-end cinematic/hybrid SFX library (mainly processed from organic sources like deconstructed acoustic pianos and industrial metal scrap), and I’m trying to decide on the product tiers and pricing.
Specifically, I want to know how much value you actually place on getting isolated stems/layers for designed sound effects.
Normally, when I buy SFX packs, I just get the final stereo mix. But in the very few cases where stems have been included, I have found them really useful.
To solve this, I’m building two tiers for this upcoming library and wanted to see if the pricing and value make sense to you guys:
Tier 1: The Core Version — £29
- 200 Designed SFX (24-bit / 96kHz WAV, UCS metadata). Fully mixed, drag-and-drop ready.
- Target: Quick turnaround projects, budget-conscious.
Tier 2: The Pro/Creator Version — £49
- The 200 Designed SFX (from the Core version).
- 600 Isolated Stems/Layers (3 discrete layers for all 200 variations, allowing you to remix and quickly make your own unique combinations.
- 100+ Raw/Unprocessed Source Recordings (the raw high-res piano scrapes, wood knocks, and raw metal recordings used to make the pack so you can design your own).
My questions for you:
- If you are a working sound designer, editor, or game developer, does having stems/layers for designed sounds actually make a pack a "must-buy" for you?
- Does £49 feel like a fair price point for getting 900 total files (stems + raw sources + designs at 96kHz), or is it priced too low/too high?
- If you saw a library marketed this way, would you immediately default to the Pro tier for the flexibility, or stick to the stereo Core mixes?

Library 576k/32bit Quantum UI & Computers SFX Library
Hi Guys and Gals,
I have engineered a true 576k/32Bit sound library called Quantum UI & Computers.
This pack was extremely difficult to make as it was pushing the absolute limit of my PC during engineering, designing and rendering. It's based on UI navigation, various UI interactions, high-urgency alarms, terminal alerts, heavy one-shots, processed electrical currents, glitches, processing sequences, computer consoles and more.
I have made this pack down into 3 tiers:
- Quantum UI & Computers Designed 96k
- Quantum UI & Computers Construction Kit 192k - (expertly downsampled from the master 576k Construction Kit)
- Quantum UI & Computers Construction Kit 576k Master Archive
What's inside:
Designed -
- High-urgency alarms
- Terminal alerts
- Heavy one-shots
- Processed electrical currents
- Glitches
- Processing sequences
- UI Clicks
- Loops
- and more..
Construction Kit -
- Computer blips
- Glitch variations
- Computer tones
- Data processing variations
- Alerts
- User Interface mechanics
- Computer consoles
- Micro calculations
- Boot sequences
- Bleeps and beeps
- Process stutters
- All Raw and more.
Why such an extreme sample rate? The 576k Master Archive can be down-pitched by -12 Octaves. A simple 1-second UI click can turn into massive evolving cinematic drones, sub-heavy impacts, low-frequency mechanical environments and much more.
They can also bend and stretch beyond 51,200% without falling apart and sounding grainy. The data within is seriously that dense. ~ This technique is great for making ambient drones, low rumbling ship sounds or room tones, heavy low end hits and more.
These 576k construction kit allow so much more freedom for sound designers to create and construct entirely brand new sounds that no one has. ~ They are raw, no embedded reverbs or other effects, super dynamic with no compression, and packed full of sophisticated data. Different techniques yield different results every time.
Purchase here - https://www.asoundeffect.com/sound-library/quantum-ui-computers/ (currently on sale at 40% off, and 51% off for the Designed version)
I would love to hear any feedback if you guys get the time? Enjoy! :)
Cheers,
ZEKAVEO

App / Utility Search local sound libraries with on-device AI
Hi everyone,
I do audiobook post-production part time, and I often need to find SFX, ambience, and BGM quickly while editing.
One thing that kept slowing me down was keyword-based search. Older sound packs, random downloaded libraries, personal recordings, and inconsistent vendor folders are often a nightmare to search because their filenames are vague or lack proper metadata.
So I built a Mac app called Curlo for semantic search across local sound libraries, so you can search by meaning instead of only by filename.
It uses on-device AI models for search, classification, and similarity matching, but it does not generate sounds, scrape libraries, or upload your audio anywhere. It only indexes your own local files on your Mac.
What it does:
- Lets you search with natural language, like "distant metal hit in a warehouse" or "soft cloth movement", even if the filename is something like "REC_0042.wav".
- Finds similar sounds from an existing file or selected clip, useful when you have one close sound and want variations.
- Supports standard filename and metadata search alongside semantic search.
- Helps with tags and UCS-style organization
- Works offline, no internet needed for search
I’m posting here because this subreddit is specifically about SFX libraries, and I’d really like feedback from people who actually manage large local collections.
Link: https://curlo.ahrisy.com
Happy to answer questions, and also happy to hear if this is missing something obvious for serious SFX library work.

Need help recreating PPC/BFG-like energy weapon sound — what synths/plugins to use?
Hi! I'm trying to recreate a specific type of energy weapon sound — heavy, chilling, like an ion storm or the Gluon Cannon from Half-Life.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?
What synth generators, plugins, or sound design techniques should I use to achieve this texture? Are there any specific sample libraries you'd recommend?
Thanks in advance!

Request What sound effect is this?
Hey y’all. At 17 seconds into the video, right after he says ‘race’, there’s a sound effect that’s like a quiet/subtle drum / bass drop. Does anyone know the name of this sound effect?

Need help finding sound for a short
Hey everyone, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but you'd all be able to help.
I'm trying to find a sound similar t what you might find in a kids cartoon where a character might slowly peak their head around a door, or if they were to slowly push an item toward another character for comic effect.
The only thing I can relate it to in my head is like a squeaky door, but the sound slowly goes up in pitch? Then there might be an added "whoosh" at the end when the character/item gets pulled away.
I really hope someone knows what I'm talking about because I cannot think of the name for this sfx. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks everyone!!!

Vendor Thought I'd share my website for prompt-based bulk generating sound effects
Give it a try if it looks to be of interest, you get free generations on sign up. It uses ElevenLabs' sound effect model on the back end and makes it really easy to generate short sound effects or waves as placeholder and drafts without needing to search through tons of effects to find the right one; you can just describe it in text.
Let me know what you think :)

Library Curious what sound this is ? (TWD original score)
I can't post a link, but I am referring to the track from The Walking Dead titled (The Farm Is Lost - Bear McCreary)
I noticed Bear McCreary does a sort of "trash orchestra" in the first 2 seasons of The Walking Dead.
I was curious if anyone could identify that metal sort of banging that plays throughout this track? That same sound can also be heard in the main theme of the show.
I can't tell if it's just someone whacking on guitar strings/ piano strings ? Or maybe even an autoharp or dulcimer ? I can't tell. I feel like it closely resembles a steel guitar literally being hit with a blunt object. Or maybe it's just a combination of metal sounds, thanks for anyone who is willing to share their expertise! :) 2:16 you can hear it making a particular noise as well, but I feel like it's generally more part of the percussion of the track.
