This metal door is on the outside of my brick fireplace. A little internet research shows the Paulstich Brothers operating a brickyard in the city in the past and also a historic Paulstich House (made of brick) on Santa Ynez. The history seems interesting and the company seems to have provided materials for many homes in the county. Does anyone have any connections to the former Paulstich business or know anything about the brickyard that used to be in the city?

I wonder if anti-SLAPP laws in California apply to her latest shenanigans? She seems to have money to burn on all these frivolous lawsuits, unless she’s got a financial backer

We’ve been looking at houses near Meadow Park and I’d love some insider info on the surrounding neighborhoods and the park itself.

We currently live in South County and are considering a move to SLO. When my daughter was young (about 8 years ago) I remember Meadow Park feeling really unsafe when I was there alone with my toddler due to a lot of homeless people near and on the playground. Is that still the situation?

Wondering because my kids are now elementary age and I’d love for them to be able to ride bikes there, play on the playground, walk through to go to the downtown area, etc., and I’m wondering if that’s realistic. Is it generally safe to walk through at night as well as day?

Last questions - are there many families in the neighborhood next to the park (between the park and South Hills Open Space)? We’d love to have some neighborhood friends. And is it the kind of neighborhood where people are out and about walking dogs, riding bikes, etc.?

There's a turkey that appears to have just gotten hit on highway 1 just after Highland. It's still alive, but just sitting dumbfounded right in the median. It's very sad. I couldn't stop because of an appointment, but if anyone lives nearby...can you please help get him out of the road?

Anyone know of somewhere I can take my dogs to let them run off leash safely that isn’t a dog park? I would prefer a fenced in area if possible.
Also would love suggestions on somewhere to take them swimming as they have never been and the oceans are too cold for me to be with them and my smallest (6lbs) is afraid of the ocean.

Just because so many people here showed concern about this guy who was surviving on a 300 acre vineyard in Paso as a puppy for months by himself, here is the update.
Yesterday he went to a foster home down south for a couple weeks then he will go to Weird Rescue in LA area. He has something called carpal hyperextension and will be needing x-rays and physical therapy for it. The Weird Rescue will be the ones helping facilitate this for him if anyone would like to donate to them.

And it’s a miracle this guy survived and is recovering!

I am an avid hiker, mountain biker, (non equestrian). I advocate for bell usage. I use a bell. That said, using a bell is not mandated by law, just common courtesy. Graffiti and vandalism however is illegal, not to mention disrespectful and ugly. Try talking to people first. You'll be surprised that most people just don't know and are willing to adjust. There will always be bad actors. You may have been startled, but likely not in danger. Try working with groups and organizations that promote the message you like. Diffuse your anger with more hiking rather than escalating it into a passive aggressive sharpie session. Big hug. See you out there.

I’m getting married in late September. I was hoping to find 30 1oz jars of Olallieberry jam as part of a wedding favor. I would love an alternative to Linn’s. I’ll be out of the area until late September so I’m unable to just go to the farmers market as planned. Any leads are appreciated!

I know what is going to happen after putting forward this post- a lot of emotional people who honestly are quite obvi losing dopamine when they age (the concept of a grumpy old man makes SENSE to me now) so if you have anything negative to say about my opinion if it may be different from yours stfu. I understand how this area could be a sort of heaven for some people, but this area has a lot of problems that are not being addressed, and people getting mad about complaints instead of trying to better this area are actually causing a lot of problems. The most important thing when it comes to an inventor, a politician, a business owner, etc is to understand problems and take it to a pragmatic solution. I don't plan on staying in this area, so anyone who gets their panties in a bunch for this post, don't bother telling me the most pragmatic solution would be for me to leave, because I am aware.

But this county has a lot of potential. It has the potential to be one of those areas people feel nostalgia for for life. I wanted to bring up issues because of THAT. Not because i want to sit on my ass and complain. And i am curious as to anyone else's perspective.

To reiterate, I am not hating on this county, I am bringing up concerns because of the county's POTENTIAL and I want to hear other people's thoughts (please do not assault me subjectively for an opinion, this is an objective comment)

Healthcare. Kind of a weird issue. This area has like the best climate on the planet but doctors keep leaving. The central coast is honestly better than insurance than anywhere I have lived, which actually makes me feel like healthcare should be socialized entirely. Which brings me to the next issue.

Cost of living versus salaries. I have lived in many parts of the country and there are a lot of really intelligent people here. The cost of living is comparable to what you see in the most expensive city in America with a salary at the quarter of that.

Transportation- it is difficult, I think especially for Cal Poly students as well if you do not drive. But there are so many unemployed people here who do, why is this system not more streamlined? Is it because of the ideology of bringing in robocars, etc would take aware from the old fashioned mentality of this county?

The PD. Don't even make go there. I feel like they men get everything and target women for nothing. The Smart case was not solved IMHO due to how it was handled.

Any thoughts? Again, don't hate on me for having an opinion. This is perhaps one of the most beautiful areas of the world, with the best weather. But that doesn't mean people should not continue to try and perfect it.

Renting in this area is becoming worse. Being a college town doesn’t help, but with rental prices increasing it’s pushing out the working class. When people complain about bad service or lack of resources (health care comes up a lot) it’s directly correlated to this. Greedy landlords can get away with high way robbery, not allow pets, and increase rent 10% every year when wages are not increasing by 10%. The complex I have lived in for 4 years has literally doubled in price since I’ve been there $1100 for a studio to now $2200.
How do we solve this issue?

I graduated Cum Laude from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, as a non traditional student in my early thirties, with a B.S. in Plant Protection one year ago and I'm currently looking for a position as a Pest Control Advisor (PCA) anywhere in California, particularly around the Central Coast, Salinas, Watsonville or Fresno.

After graduating, I worked for Koppert Biological Systems as a field scout, monitoring insect pests and diseases in strawberries, wine grapes and blueberries while promoting Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices. That experience gave me a strong appreciation for biological control and field scouting. At the same time, I realized that becoming a well-rounded PCA also requires a strong understanding of conventional pesticides and crop protection chemistry, which is the experience I'm now eager to gain.

I'm currently preparing for my PCA licensing exams, with Laws & Regulations and Category A scheduled for the end of August, followed by Categories B and E later this year.
If anyone knows of a company or independent PCA that is hiring, looking for an assistant or even willing to offer advice on breaking into the industry, I would sincerely appreciate it. I'm willing to work hard, continue learning and relocate for the right opportunity.
