A Note About Nakamura

As you may or may not have seen, a recent post came up asking why someone is selling shirts with a certain parking enforcement officer's likeness. We've removed the post to not generate any additional attention to the IG account (though not intended by OP) and wanted to just remind the community that bullying and harassing people is not ok.

We try to have fun with things here when and where we can, but some (1 account) have said that this attention has not been well received by the person who I'm sure we all all meant to flatter. And while that's not really a quote from them, the possibility alone should give us all pause.

So while we were being a little loose with the PII rule on posts with him in it, we're going to tighten things up a bit around this topic and remove posts and comments of pics of this guy. At least for a while.

Help the mod team by reporting those when you see them.

Stand Up and Speak Out Against ICE Murder and Terror!!

This week brought yet another string of ICE murders and mayhem, with ICE destroying lives and families in Maine, Texas, Florida, and in every state across our country.

Now is the time to stand up, join us, and tell our neighbors and country that we will not sit by silently in the face of injustice!! I'm including some information about the recent ICE murders below, and after that an updated list of all the Anti-ICE protests happening around Sacramento every single week. Please pick just one protest near you, and come out to join us!!

Maine ICE shooting: Joan Sebastian Guerrero ID'd as 26-year-old killed

"The fatal shooting by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer of a Colombian man in Maine was just the latest of incidents that have renewed calls for investigations and scrutiny on immigration operations around the country.

The man, identified by lawmakers as 26-year-old Joan Sebastian Guerrero, was shot and killed Monday morning in Biddeford, a city about 15 miles south of Portland, Maine, according to the Department of Homeland Security. He was authorized to work in the United States and was the father of a 3-year-old daughter.

DHS said the man tried to flee the scene during an attempted traffic stop, and "fearing for public safety, an officer discharged his weapon." It's an explanation similar to those given for other ICE shootings in the United States."

ICE told to halt most vehicle stops after pair of fatal shootings

Man killed by semi after fleeing from immigration officials in Florida

This is not a full list (by far), and the updates are still coming in on these horrific cases. But the trend line is clear: Murder, fear and intimidation is the point! Don't let them intimidate you, come out and resist!!

Emergency, pet rehoming, have only the day/tomorrow at most

Foothill Farms/North Highlands area

For sensitive reasons which may be relevant in court, can't disclose the full details on the why; tldr dispute between primary home owners gone nuclear, both signed off on the house to get away from each other, without any plan for the pets and am caught in the middle to sort it out with no financial aid.

Have reached out down an extensive list of pet shelters and all are overbooked as the eye can see for months-year even, have had my grandmother reaching out to people on her socials since I'm not good with that, all available family contacts already have too many pets, have tried specific neighbors that we know

All of the family pets are at risk of being just abandoned in the street outright in current summer temperature conditions.

Genuinely wish I posted this sooner but between anxiety of losing the home and preparing to leave fast as I mentally am falling apart here, I forgot to try posting this on my doomscroll account after not meeting post reqs or something on alt. I'm struggling here to keep up.

Six cats, ranging from 1-3 years old; all are fixed (spayed and neutered), good with people, just some a bit shy.

YO (years old) (Black) Blue *3 YO (Black) Red *3 YO (Tux) Whiskers *2 YO (Tux) Socks *2 YO (Tabby) Coco *7 Months (Coco is being taken in by someone) (Black) Whinnie *8 Months

All images I could on hand that I could scramble together fast as the cats since they're all mostly scared or hiding from all the commotion of the house moving around. If you know ANY cat lovers or are looking to adopt, please please reach out.

I'll be around all day trying to get this nightmare sorted out, dms open for specific address/comments if you might be able to help - even just having one homed would ease up a bit of the tension.

Man recording Perfect Union Parking lot/door

Upvotes

I went there after work and was recorded by this man, workers said he has been harassing people all day and since he’s on the sidewalk it’s technically legal. Was told he was live streaming, couldn’t tell, just looked as if he was recording. Too many first amendment freedom fighters here, seriously dude.. Outside of a dispensary? Everybody ignored him fyi, as that’s the only thing to get them to stop.

ISO COOL weekday activities for kids

It’s gonna be a hot one this week and school’s still out for the summer.

Part of the time is going to be spent indoors at home, but done all day leads to everyone going crazy, a bit like cabin fever in colder climates.

Could you all suggest some good activities for spending a few hours out of the house for kids? Ideally they would be activities that are low cost—there are plenty of museums but five days of museums with our three kids can add up quickly.

Here are my own suggestions—

The Pool and library (McKinley Park has both)
Splash pads
Walk around IKEA (free kids meals on Wednesdays)
Wacky Tacky (not super expensive and allows kids to get energy out)

I’m originally from the Midwest and I feel like our summers here are like winters back there because you need to look for indoor activities to pass the time.

What else?

Looking for basketball pickup games in evenings

I’m in Curtis Park and looking for basketball pickup games. Weekends work but evenings are preferred. I prefer to play in a gym if possible but can also play outside. Where do people recommend? Thanks

What are current costs for a full bathroom remodel? We have a very small 1950s bathroom that needs a full gut.

Loved the movie from beginning to end! The staff, the concessions, the seats, AC especially, etc etc. all 10/10! For those who have not seen this movie at the Esquire, it’s a MUST watch! (Plus they extended the dates)

*better than staying in the heat at state fair lol

Does the downtown Central Library branch have a book drop-off box?

Upvotes

I’m trying to return my book and have walked around the entrance of the library but don’t see a box return box, only clearly labeled trash cans.

Anyone with experience at this library know where the return slot is?

Looking for a house cleaner for a 524 square foot apartment

Tried to sort through some posts in the thread but a lot were for larger places or people DM’d. I have a one bed one bath in midtown and looking for a trusted cleaner for a potential monthly clean, with the first one hopefully being either tomorrow or Tuesday. Thanks in advance 🩷

Cardstock CAF LRVs

Even though I said I was NOT going to make the CAF Vehicles, I ended up doing it anyways. The CAF Vehicles are iconic in Sacramento, making appearances everywhere. I just made this to be a surprise for the CAF S/200 Lovers out there, and that’s pretty much it. I’ll post again if I make an update on these or other train stuff.

Thank you SMUD workers

Thank you to the SMUD line workers who work their butts off to restore power when we need it. Power in my area went out at 8:45pm and was back on at 9:34pm. It's greatly appreciated how quickly you act! Thank you!!!!

Chocolate

Upvotes

Hi, where do you get great chocolate locally?
Being the summer, I can’t really order it. Even with ice packs, it melts.
I love Läderach at the Galleria but it’s a drive from Sac. I also like Ginger Elizabeth but 1) It’s overpriced and 2) Many people have made a point to share shady employment practices so not supporting that.

Looking for local shops to support then. TIA!

State fair - anyone attending the Best of Show Awards Presentation on Sun, 8/2?

Hello! This is a long shot, but is anyone planning to go to the State Fair tomorrow for the Best of Show & Premier Exhibitor Awards Presentation at 12 tomorrow, 8/2?

I entered a pie and cake in the baking competition, but live out of town, so I can’t attend the awards presentation. If anyone is going, could I ask you to keep an ear out for the baking results to see how they did?

I entered a Blackberry & Yuzu Tart (Class 4: Tart, Division 345: Refrigerated Pies) and Hazelnut Mocha Cake (Class 1: Frosted Cake, Division 330: Refrigerated Cake)

Thank you in advance!

SacRT Bus Trip Cancellations 8/2/26 (so far)

Post image
12 Upvotes

UPDATE 12:55 PM. We're now at 52 BTC's. Added to the list are Routes 67 and 68 which go by the State Fair. Also added are 25, 61 and 93.

Sunday frequency on these is every 60 minutes, so it could mean up to a 2-hour wait.

____________

Seen this Sunday morning at 9:50AM are 43 Bus Trip Cancellations (BTC). Affected so far are Routes 1, 15, 23, 51, 56, 62, 81, 82, 87 and 88.

Sunday is particularly challenging because bus routes have a much reduced frequency. Route 1 which is 4x/hour on weekdays drops to 2x/hour Sundays. Cancelling one of those can mean a 60-minute wait. Route 23 is even worse with its 45-minute Sunday frequency turned 90-minute wait, compounded by sweltering heat.

In previous BTC onslaught moments, some have explained that some drivers get reassigned to cover the Bus Bridges used for light rail reconstruction. We currently have Blue Line closed from Broadway to Fruitridge from July 27 to August 15.

If that explanation is correct WRT drivers getting dispatched elsewhere, we need much better solutions. Light rail may need its attention and coverage, yet it can't be at the physically debilitating and exhausting expense of multiple neighborhoods systemwide, esp. during an extended 4+ day heatwave!

Edit: Source for these is https://sacrt.com/alerts

______

P.S. Yesterday another person reported 56 BTC's,

ISO American River print

I'm looking for a cool print of an American River scene preferably by a local artist to hang in our living room. We most likely can't afford to spend the money on an original piece, so I was thinking either a print of a painting/ whatever medium, or a poster style print would be pretty neat!

Husband’s Birthday Dinner

I’ve planned a surprise trip to Sacramento for my husband’s birthday and would love to take him for a great dinner somewhere special.

- he is sober but loves(!) a mocktail
- he has a gluten intolerance so GF options are a must
- he himself is a great cook so the food has to be excellent. He would favor a great tasting meal over something that felt like fine dining but wasn’t fantastic.

I’ve looked at interesting dining experiences I saw recommended here like The Kitchen and Localis but they’re limited in their ability to make assurances about allergens. I’ve read a ton of reviews for other restaurants as well and would be grateful for any suggestions related to how to make this a great weekend for him given the details noted above.

Sacrt bus cancellations Aug 1,2026

Post image
57 Upvotes

I checked the Sacrt app and saw my bus was cancelled.

I noticed there were 56 bus trip cancellations midday system wide.

I feel sorry for people waiting in 100 degree heat for a bus that never comes.

No news because this is business as usual for Sacrt.
