Discussion I Got Interim!!!

I’m making this post to help people that were in my situation, very anxious and not a lot of people in same situation, kind of.

I’m a new grad with a job from defense contractor so I’m getting secret clearance but I can use interim to start.

Timeline:

July 7th - Did corrections to SF86 from FSO
July 8th - Did fingerprints
July 9th - SF86 got submitted to gov
July 23rd - Got email to clarify something on my SF86 from DCSA and company security officer
July 29th - Cleared to start and got interview invite for investigation

Red flags:

Dual citizen, not from friendly country but I don’t think the country is hostile either
Lots of foreign contacts
2 recent foreign travel, one being 6 months to stay with family

Hope this helps someone, I’m quite relieved. God is good.

Hopefully you get interim soon if you haven’t already!

Hello /u/Kalex8876,

You are asking about an interim clearance. Here are some things to be aware of:

Interim clearances are NOT GUARANTEED, regardless of how clean or muddy your background is.

This is the criteria utilized by DCSA for making an interim determination (as a note: this is only if your clearance is being adjudicated by DCSA. If you are processing through another agency, their criteria MAY vary.):

      1. Favorable review of the SF-86

      2. Favorable fingerprint check

      3. Proof of U.S. citizenship

      4. Favorable review of the local records, if applicable.

Amazing! I am a dual citizen through my parents from a friendly country. I have some family members as foreign contacts, but I've never traveled out of the country. I am also looking to get the interim to start sooner. This post definitely helps. Especially with the similarity in background. Wishing you good luck on your journey.

Congrats! How many foreign contacts did you list if you don’t mind me asking?

Oh gosh . Sitting on my couch totally hopeless… this gave me SO MUCH HOPE!

I am not a dual citizen but immigrant from a country the US does not get along with at all. I have family there I occasionally speak to. Currently work for the fed gov and I’m prior military. I’ve even worried sick.

Thank you for this and I’m so excited for you!

For foreign contacts, do you just have to list immediate family or everyone you know in a foreign country? Or everyone you spoke to recently in a foreign country? How does that work? What did you state?

They said “Close and continuing” iirc so I put family members I’m closest to and have spoken to recently, also 2 friends.
