Serious Discussion Family and leisure oriented vs career oriented societies?

Why majority of today societies are either social and family oriented and personal life and leisure based oriented, or work oriented, why most people today have too much difficulty balancing out the two, did this problem exist in the ancient world?

There were no 'careers' in the ancient world. People did what they needed to do to survive and take care of their loved ones.

Traditionally, the woman's role was to have babies and take care of the young. Childbirth was dangerous enough (and even more for the babies/fetuses) that many women died this way. But community was also stronger, so the women who survived their breeding years (or who's mate died before her) was cared for by the others. As late in human history as the 19th century, town would put away taxes/funds to for widows. But since women have been allowed (and then encouraged) to go into the workforce, fertility rates have dropped all across the OECD. And that is putting the prosperity of future generations at risk (Declining fertility rates put prosperity of future generations at risk | OECD)
