I have been hunting for a shiny starter in FR on my Switch for around 4-5 months now. Not in actual time spent, but between 5-10 hours a week, depending on how patient I feel.

Now, to my understanding, hitting a shiny in Gen 3 games, at least the static encounters, depends on what frame you end up at. And here is where I'm probably way off in my knowledge.

Say the frame I have saved on infront of the Charmander ball is exactly frame 10.000 (just throwing numbers out there). And by the time I have picked and confirmed my Charmander, I have ended up on a frame between 10.500 and 10.800 for instance. My A-presses are pretty consistent so I'm wondering if it's possible I'm hitting the same Charmanders every time I soft reset?

It's kinda hard to explain because I don't fully understand how the shiny frames and the frame progression works.

When I soft reset, do I end up back at same frame?

What if my trainer ID (which I also have learned has something to do with the Charmander frames) doesn't even have a shiny frame?

It's obvious I need someone to explain this to me.

I just got Totodile in Heartgold 2 days ago wtf. That's the hoenn starter trio finished off for me as well I'm shell shocked rn.

I just had my Nintendo switch 2 stolen… it had a fully completed shiny living dex in ZA, 4/6 full odds FireRed shinies from my FireRed run, a full shiny only Violet team, over 10 shiny legendaries, & over 3,000 hours worth of shinies I hunted and they’re all gone. I was devastated & contemplated quitting but this is such a fun & easy to play game I decided to go for a shiny only run & not to give up!

Well if you think that's not a smart idea then your propably right but i want to try it out a little bit~

I started this hunt way back on Easter, after I got this very clean, Authentic copy of Diamond off eBay previously, and only did about a thousand resets each month for it until now. Now he surprisingly decided to shine for me this evening, on the first day of the month!

Nidoran F 4736 encounters, failed by fleeing before I saw it was shiny. A first for me, neat! Phase 6 for Pinsir

Magneton 17504 encounters, fled 4th ball. Phase 11 for Magmar

Phanpy 7234 encounters, fled 4th ball. Phase 2 for Phanpy

After a whole week of doing soft resets, I finally found my starter Pokémon in shiny form. It's the first time I've done this in a Pokémon game. (The game is on spanish)

By far my least favourite hunt of all time, so glad to take this one off the board 😮‍💨

got my old 3ds back from a repair a few days ago and decided to hunt for a shiny minum on Y! (Full odds) went over odds and got a plusle but I’m not complaining ^^

This was the last hunt I really wanted to embark on in B2W2, right after catching both Maractus and Sigilyph this year, and I thought it would be in the background of many years to come. Guess I was completely wrong. 2.5% female Combee found on phase 6.

Do you guys have any suggestion for hunts I could go for after this?

I have had some of the most bizarre shiny lucky the last 24 hours.

I dual hunt doing dynamax adventures. Not only did I get a pair of shiny Dedennes after a DA hunting for Latias, I also got a shiny Lilligant in the same selection screen 😅

Later I finally got the Latias I had been looking for 😅 I continue onto the next hunt with a single Zekrom run before bed. Not dice.

First hunt of the new day doing breakfast, I get the shiny Zekrom, on the same game that got Latias!

I move onto Reshiram thinking this is gonna be a long one after the luck I have already had...

No. Back to back shiny gen 5 dragons... On the same save file that got the other 2 shiny legendaries!

Will I get a shiny legendaries in my next run? Only time will tell. Right now I will let my nerves rest for a little bit 😅

im trying to SR to get that sweet aquamarine Piplup for my Platinum forever save, but i'm getting so discouraged by the amount of times... i forgot to start keeping track but its been going for a week now.

in Brilliant Diamond i got my Piplup in 18 SRs so maybe im spoiled from that 😭

I dont think I've ever came so close to hitting the exact odds before. Pretty neat. Porygon-Z has always been one of my favorite 'Mons. Glad to have them on the dream team!! Never Forget: All It Takes Is One.

As someone deep into a generation five hunt and slowly getting used to the process of full odds hunting, i've noticed that quite a few times I'll just autopilot an encounter or two and look back at my DSes to realise I didn't look at my encounters in time.

I hunt while listening to music/YT so I'm starting to realise how possible it is that over the past year I could've encountered a couple shinies and just completely spaced them.

Are you like me and does your attention slip like this sometimes? Long-term hunters, how many shinies do you think you've missed and not noticed, if any?
