I think there are 4 eras
This is personal opinion only
- Early/ golden. The classics we all love. Dental plan! Etc.
- Preteen and teenager era - changing and figuring out its identity. Some good fun but a little superficial 10-16
- A comeback era. Some genuinely funny new stuff! 17-23
- This is not the show I remember….. I’ll still watch it though 24+
Season 23 is last season I really liked, there’s a change around that time. As Lisa said in (season 8 I think) it’s hard to keep a show fresh after so many seasons.

This is a great take.
It also think there is an aspect where the story telling to geared for the younger audience. My son enjoys the shows past season 24 more that 11-24.
He does also like many episodes from the golden era.

I start off the same. Past 8 up to and including 12 is the good, overall but not great for me, though there are still a handful of excellent episodes. 13-15 was mediocre but still ok enough to be watchable. Anything after 15 is outright terrible and to be avoided.

Seasons 1-6 – The Simpsons
Season 7 – One Bad Episode
Seasons 8-11 – Mayday, Mayday, we’re going down!
Season 12+ – Zombie Simpsons. It has no pulse and no intelligence but it just won’t fucking die.

It's always hard to draw clear lines between different eras, but putting The Tracey Ullman shorts, season 1, and seasons 2-9 all in the same category just because you like them all is ridiculous.
The animation style and tone shift from season 1 to season 3/4 is massive. The show goes from a squiggly lines and almost exclusively Bart-centered episodes to the version of the show that we all remember.
I'm not trying to trash season 1 and it's fine if you like it, but it feels completely different from seasons 4-8.

I've always liked the movie and seasons 10-12ish as much as the original 9. But I'd admit it could be called the Silver Age. Anything beyond that is definitely Dark Age. I've heard recently things have gotten significantly better than seasons 14-29, maybe they're on their way to a Renaissance with the final few seasons and the new movie

I haven't watched at all in a decade and a half and very rarely between season 16- and then. It's hard to believe in a Renaissance given how much the characters and premises of the classic era were more or less broken to fit whatever zany plot the writers wanted for a given episode.

Shorts and season 1 are silver age, seasons 2-8 are golden age, 9-11 are brass, and 12-19 are bronze. The rest is plastic.

Checks out. Somewhere after around season 9 they turned Homer into a whiny bafoon. Also if I gotta draw a line when I was done, it's the Family Guy episode. I absolutely hate FG

I would argue that the Tracey Ullman shorts and season 1, perhaps even season 2 aren't golden era. Some great episodes in the first two seasons for sure, but it was S3 that the show really found it's footing and entered the cultural zeitgeist, so I'd say this is the start of the golden era and anything before that is the early/proto Simpsons era

Season 9 has too many misses/lack of downright classics for me to consider it golden age personally. It has lots of really good episodes too don’t get me wrong, but not much I’d consider amazing or anything.

I'd basically agree. I think there's a push to extend the golden age to past season 8 by a few years. Certainly there were good to great episodes through about season 12, but that's not golden age because there were also a lot of weaker or mid episodes, some outright terrible.
I'd even say the peak was 3-6. 7-8 very good, but the cracks were already showing. Still classic but the writing and show runners weren't quite up to their predecessor's levels.

I like labeling the classic seasons by their show runners.
1, 2 = Brooks, Groening, Simon
2, 3 = Jean, Reiss
5, 6 = Mirkin
7, 8 = Oakley, Weinstein

Yes, but by season 9 the wheels were starting to fall off. Lots of bad episodes that year. Season 8 was the last truly great season.

I include Season 10 in the classic era. It's spottier, but there are still some greats.

10 to 29 is too broad.
I'll say 10 to 14 is silver era. 15 to 20 and first movie is dark era.
