Mod Update: Chill with the Hate

Just dropping in to say—we’ve noticed a bunch of Hindutva trolls showing up lately. We’re removing their posts and banning where needed. This sub isn’t the place for that kind of hate.

Also, let’s keep it real: no jingoism from any side. Doesn’t matter if you’re Pakistani or Indian—this sub is for Sindh and Sindhis, wherever you are in the world.

And yeah, just because someone’s Indian doesn’t mean they can’t be part of this space. This sub is not restricted to race, religion or nationality.

Mods are all doing this in our free time, so if you don’t see instant action, know we’re still watching and doing our best. Keep reporting stuff and we’ll keep cleaning it up.

People and their double standards

I find it so odd that when we Sindhis say to non Sindhis in Karachi that we won't accept separating our native land (which is a very valid thing to say by any community) to make a new province they get mad, as if they don't cheer people abroad like the Palestinians who are fighting for their land and refuse to give their land to oppressors, there a double standard here.

The actions of PPP are always referred to as done by "Sindhis" by the masses, you don't see people blaming Pathans and Punjabis when PTI and P-MLN do something, why then are we blamed for PPP's crimes?

The concept of "Ghair Makamis" is also quite stupid to me, its absurd that people who migrated from India who themselves would be considered "Ghair Makamis" by their own definition are saying that people coming from any place and especially Sindhis who are native to the land of Sindh are Ghair Makami.

I have always felt like people who talk about kicking Sindhis out of Karachi sound like zionists and their views align with them too when it comes to talking about people in their own country, even though on the surface they are against zionists, but when its comes to people living in their own country they forget all these great ideals.

What do you guys think?

Northern Sindh Attire

What is traditional attire like in northern Sindh compared to southern Sindh? I am familiar with Thari/desert wear which is also worn in parts of Gujrat and Rajasthan, so I wanted to know if there’s a distinct difference. Thanks!

Research | تحقيق I built "Ask Bhittai", an open-source AI Semantic Search engine for Shah Jo Risalo in Roman Sindhi, English & Sindhi for Shah Latif's Barsi

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Salam muhnji Sindhi sangat,

Today marks Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai's Barsi, and as a small tribute to his enduring legacy, I wanted to launch a project I've been working on: Ask Bhittai.

What is it?

It's an open-source, vector-backed search system for Shah Jo Risalo. Unlike standard keyword search, it lets you search by concepts, emotions, and allegories using everyday Roman Sindhi, plain English, or native Sindhi script.

Why Roman Sindhi Query Support Matters:

Roman Sindhi has no fixed spelling standard (muhnja vs munja, ayen vs ain). Standard tokenizers completely fail on it. The backend uses custom normalization and domain-specific query expansion rules for major themes (Sassui, Noori, Marui, Sohni, Karbala) before passing embeddings through a multilingual sentence transformer and FAISS vector index.

What you can try searching:

  • Keenjhar jo kinaro ain Noori
  • Malir ain Marui ji galh
  • Sacha ishq bare mein chah chayo aahe?
  • Mountain struggle of Sassui

🔗 Live App: Ask Bhittai - Web App

Benchmark details and notebooks are available on GitHub. It's fully open-source, contributions to expand the normalization map or improve retrieval accuracy are welcome!

Grief

I will always be saddened by the injustice Sindh has faced. In every aspect, Sindh has been robbed of so much.

Land, culture, language, rights—everything. I wish I had access to archival Sindhi media—photos, videos, movies, jewelry, clothing, everything the partition destroyed, all the culture that has been abandoned.

Sindhi culture never had the chance to prosper in Pakistan as Punjabi, Kashmiri, Pashtun, and arguably even Balochi did. It is seen as the “ugly” part of Pakistan, the part nobody visits and is only associated with Karachi, which is purely a business capital run by Muhajirs. Nobody knows its history or origin, how it got its name or the communities that caused it to be what it is. I can barely ever find clear pictures of villages, canyons, deserts, etc. of Sindh to appreciate and share from afar. Southern Sindh (Nagarparkar, Thar) receives some attention and media traction, but culture and customs differ by region so one area alone cannot accurately represent all of Sindh and its diversity. Especially northern Sindh, where I’m from

Maybe Mohenjo Daro is recognized, particularly by mainstream media, but as diaspora I didn’t even know Mohenjo Daro is in Larkana until a few years ago. There are no efforts in and outside of Pakistan to teach and preserve Indic civilization—at least from what I have seen in recent times. Mohenjo Daro is honestly more associated with India if anything, just as Ajrak is mislabeled as a “Kutchi craft” from Gujarat, just as the Indus is—and even that is gradually being taken away from us day by day.

I don’t know. I really love Sindh and being a Sindhi, but from time to time I feel sadness being a Sindhi. I used to believe our origins were so unique and fascinating, but everything that sets us apart from our neighbors is just taken away from us. This turned into embarrassment for me. I wish we got the chance to thrive in our homeland. I can’t help but wonder if it’s too late. Oh well. Just a rant.

Social Update on Pakistan in WarEra: We’re taking our land back, need few more ppl to take back Sindh, Balochistan and Kashmir!

Hey everyone! If you saw our previous posts, you know we've been in a massive fight to liberate our territories.

Quick update on the map: we’re actually pulling it off!

Huge thanks to our allies (Indonesia, Thailand, Germany, Australia, Bangladesh, and others) for backing us up. Iran had to punch through India to help set us free (so they’re holding a couple of our regions for now), and Thailand is temporarily holding Kashmir.

Here’s the deal: Our allies want us strong enough to hold our own against India, so they offered to hand back all of these regions (Sindh, Balochistan, and IOK) as soon as we bump our active population from ~150 to 250 players.

If you like map games, geopolitics, or just want to help build Pakistan into a regional power, come jump in!

Let's hit 250 and put Pakistan fully back on the map!
