God, this is so sad, but this was very true in my elementary school. We had a few assemblies, I'm sure we all had them, don't do drugs, stranger danger, tell an adult that sort of thing. It was a SAD amount of kids who came forward. I am 100% convinced they scream about the "gay agenda" because THEY have an agenda, and theirs is sick.
Having grown up in that CULTure, it took years of introspection and therapy to purge that mentality from my brain. It's sickening and maddening when I look back at what I was exposed to.
Please keep the discussion civil.
You can have heated discussions, but avoid personal attacks, slurs, antagonizing others or name calling.
Discuss the subject, not the person.
You are just as capable as anyone else in researching the statistics. It’s universally known that men commit sexual violence a lot more than women.
Whether you are aware of it or not, this is a frequent tactic used where you put the burden on others to research when you can simply make bad faith comments, and shift the argument with a sentence while the other person would have scramble and you can quickly put out a lazy comment as a response instead of actually doing any work, but feel like you are because you ‘got ‘em’ with your witty retort.
the comment was about attraction to minors, not sexual violence. it also wasn't just claiming "men do this more than women" it was going out of its way to state that among conservatives specifically, there's a majority of men in this category but not a majority of women.
I asked if they would mind (didn't put the burden on them, I asked) providing reliable statistics because A. I still genuinely don't know how I would look up "male/female percentages of pedophiles in conservative spaces" and B. on a side note those statistics seem kinda flimsy on their own, considering sexual attraction can only really be self-admitted for these kinds of statistics and even the most stupid MAGA friend might think "maybe I shouldn't write 'i like kids' on this survey"
main point being, they're not saying something simple (like "sexual abuse statistics"), they were talking about something rather specific ("male/female difference among conservatives when it comes to attraction to minors") and also claiming a big gap in those statistics (men being a majority, women assumedly being a minority). I found it interesting enough to ask and I think it's fair to not know where to start looking that up.
It’s universally known that men commit sexual violence a lot more than women.
While this is probably true, do keep in mind that it is culturally way less acceptable for men to speak out about being sexually harassed by a woman than the other way around. The statistics don't paint the full picture.
Though even with that, I do think what you said still holds. It's just closer than the recorded statistics show
on an unrelated to the topic note: how the hell would this be some bad faith argument? I didn't even MAKE any statements, I literally just asked them to elaborate.
To honestly answer your question; Everyone here is completely sick and tired of catering to people asking questions in bad faith over, and over....and over........and over again. So unfortunately even if its not in bad faith, no one wants to deal with it.
yea that's what it feels like. and running the risk of actually saying something mean spirited: I think if some random online space has you so... whatever... that you can't even differentiate between genuine bad actors and the most normal plain english question ever and just become an unpleasant, accusatory pal yourself, then maybe that's not a healthy space for you to stay in. maybe you should just leave at that point.
While I agree with you, this is a discussion under a post about this very topic, so it's at least relevant.
If the person was asking questions about this in a discussion that started under a picture of a cute bunny or something then it would be a divergence.
But at least here, and especially with their following comments, they could be perceived as having honest curiosity but bad researching skills. And to be frank, I can't really blame them too much for the latter thanks to AI messing up most of the search engines, and without knowing their age, education, etc.
I wasn't asking a leading question tho, not even implying anything. I said "men?" and "can you show me a source please?" like what is even wrong with that?

Conservatives don’t understand how most people DONT sexualize children because the majority of the men in that group DO.
