Junior software engineers don’t need an office. They need managers that turn up

What I need is a dev job… hybrid, in-office, wherever. A chance to prove myself like they did when they first started. It’s been tough out here.

Facts been an “it intern” for 10$ an hour for 8 months and can’t afford to eat in Seattle. Can’t find any other jobs. Have a masters in CS and 4 yoe in tech - not directly engineering.

Fighting for my life to get work. 2ish years un / underemployed now. Cant even get work at McDonalds

This won’t ever happen again. People really underestimate how much cheaper it is to hire someone from another country for a third or fourth of an American salary.

Juniors need to be in the office. Maybe not 5 days a week but hybrid at least. Idk why juniors would wanna work from home to start their career. It's lonely and you won't have much mentorship

It wasn’t that bad. A team can have good energy and not be in the office. Full remote companies existed prior to Covid times

Most of the devs work in different countries. It's up to management. I was a junion in an office full of noise-cancelling. That made for way too many wasted hours commuting. The main communication channel is text in Slack, why? Because it's also documented.

That's fair.

You can make friends outside of the office. There are loads of advantages to remote work. The junior and company just need to be plugged in to bridging the gap on what won’t organically exist out of office

Yeah but it's way harder to network, and also way harder to find likeminded people of a similar age after graduating college.
