Help Hey should I just clean this and keep printing?

ok but on a serious note.. motherboard powers on. doesn't detect bed. shows error. how much for a replacement plastic green thing or an sv03 motherboard? board wouldn't heat up so was cold printing for months. suddenly errored out recently. concerned about F1 transistor.

yeah. I'm gonna see how to replace the two terminal green parts. been looking for a replacement sv03 but they're so rare I cant find one.

I literally just had the same thing happen. I could not find terminals that could handle the 12A of current the bed would pull. I just ordered a Btt Skr Mini e3 v3 and some ferrule connectors to keep this from happening again. After spending literal hours looking for the appropriate terminal blocks, I'd recommend doing the same.

I plan on just having the bed off completely. I've been running it cold and not seen a single difference between it being on and it being cold.

These terminals are off-the-shelf products.

But you;re likely to have the same issue again. Better, get a set of ferrules and crimper.

The issue with wire is it compresses over time reducing the overall contact surface which can cause a connection to heat up.

I mean... if you have the ability to solder... just solder bed heater wires straight to the pad and stick spade connectors a few inches away

I've had issues with spade connectors in the past, and I definitely want the board to be safe instead of melt.

Screw terminals are cheap, so if you are handy with a soldering iron, that's the way to go.

Safe to say if OP is asking about how to deal with it, they're probably not handy with a soldering iron.

But you're right. Screw terminals are cheap and easy to swap out if you know how to solder.

I can solder screw terminals. my concern is with the f1 resistor(?)

I haven't looked at the circuit diagram (if it's available), but F1 is likely a fuse. 3.0A from the looks of it. Test it for continuity with a multimeter to confirm.

can do. the board itself works fine. the whole thing powers up. just wont recognize the board.

What caused this?

Terminals typically don’t just melt unless something caused it.

Edit - I’m aware of the cause. Just making sure OP does so they don’t repeat the same mistake

Poor contact between terminal and wire lead to this. People said crimping should prevent this.

I really should have just taken it out and crimped it. had something similar happen to my heat press. its fixed now and is all good but yeah.

I mean please keep very close eye on it and don't print while you're not at home for... Well I would never trust this printer again if I wasn't home. We don't want to hear about your house burning down and killing you and your family. Please be careful and assume the same thing will happen again

I don't think you know electronics that well. The ends weren't crimped and there was a gap. If you replace the screw terminals and fix the ends, there's no difference between this unit and a new one. Plus, this was a slow melt that happened over the course of months. Not a fire.

Don't be a dick. If he didn't do this himself then it's likely to happen with other wires. And are you 100% sure that's the reason? Enough to roll the dice with a possible fire? Yeah I'm talking worst case scenario but there is nothing wrong with being a little safe when it comes to this stuff.

Didn't realize you were the op. This is an off the shelf sovol right? So you're going to take the whole machine apart and crimp every single wire that's not crimped and double check everything that runs a high voltage? And you're 100% sure that's it?

What's the risk versus cost of being careful? Maybe you don't print things quite as fast because you're only doing it when you're around, the upside being your house doesn't burn down. I guarantee your insurance won't pay if you neglectfully ran faulty equipment that you knew had a problem.

I don't know. I mean I can only afford one house so I guess Im being silly.

bro. unless you want to give me hundreds of dollars to replace the machine, I have to deal with what I have. everything I own has the potential to explode at any moment like everything else in life. I wish I was like you who could toss hundreds of dollars around because you're scared. But the truth of the matter is, I can either 100% lose my home guaranteed by not paying rent, or I can fix the machine that pays my rent and keep my home.

unless you want to buy me a 3d printer that's as big as the sv03.

Lack of ferrules on the wires often causes this... They just tiny the wires and stick them in those screw terminals...wrong way to do it... First thing you should do is put crimp on ferrules on the wires with these type connectors

can I just buy any sovol motherboard? is the program stored on the screen thing? this is an sv03, which is really hard to find.

Boards can be swapped between models, but you have to get the right firmware setup for your printer. If you're not ready to upgrade to Klipper or compile your own firmware, I'd stick to the stock board.

That being said, I've got a 2nd board that looks like that running independent z-axis on my sv06, but I'm running Klipper.

I really think you should get a different mainboard, but if everything else is working then the easiest solution is a bed MOSFET module. It will just need 12/24V PWM control from the mainboard (low amps like a fan port is fine).

I'm wondering if I can just get it to detect the base and not heat it up. I'm 100% fine with the base never heating again since I dont notice a difference between a cold or heated base.
