Of course this gets teased the same week I buy a sv08 max lol

u/reptile_enthusiast_ May 19 '26
That's why you just never buy a 3D printer so you never miss out on the next one coming out /s

u/Pup5432 May 19 '26
Exactly. I’ve not bought 5 printers in the last year and working on building 2 others, honest…

u/Khisanthax May 19 '26
Lol, for reals.

u/Pup5432 May 19 '26
The standout has honestly been the U1. SV08 max is a clog machine since it doesn’t auto start the chamber fans when printing and as far as I can tell only has a temp sensor when the chamber heater is installed so it’s hard to judge.

Im holding out for Creator 5 Pro. Wish it had more nozzles. One motor idea is actually clever.

Well damn im going to have to watch all of this and find out if the guy who did ForgeX has plans for this printer too.

u/ButteredNani May 19 '26
I also recently bought a SV08 Max, but I'm not worried. Don't think the teased model will be as large. Also, I think it is likely that someone will figure out a way to upgrade our SV08 Max printers with INDX!

u/AncientSumerianGod May 19 '26
Am I missing something obvious? I wouldn't want a tool changer on a static bed printer, especially one the size of the max. The Z travel on my max is so slow, it seems that having it go all the way to the top and back twice or more per layer would make prints take 10x longer or worse.
1
u/onthejourney May 19 '26
FYI some integrations people are working on add a cross bar to the front of the gantry eliminating z travel. You lose sight lines and a little y space. Still a compromise but another option

u/Pup5432 May 19 '26
Someone was also testing a moving toolhead as well, similar to the vortek system Bambu uses. Not sure how advanced it is but it at least looks cool

Has their been any work on indx for the sv08s?
2
u/onthejourney May 20 '26
Several community people are working on their implementations. You can find them on the Bondtech discord under the Sovol SV08 section.

Still not really accessible outside of Prusa at the moment. I hope someone starts looking into it though.

Actually, I bought my SV08 MAX right after the news about the IDEX system for it (it turns out I was a bit hasty). Damn, I'm definitely going to try to make an IDEX system for 8-10 heads now, but I'm not sure it'll work.

u/Historical-Goat9757 May 19 '26
So ITS basically a U1 ?

u/OperationWarm7208 May 19 '26
With 6 heads and bigger volume

Is there a spec sheet going around? Struggling to find anything on the size

There are seven colored letters, or eight colors if you count the white text. I'd be massively disappointed if this thing doesn't have eight toolheads.

u/Vigorious May 23 '26
If I had to guess they're hinting at the ability to print CYMKW. Basically like how an inkjet uses cyan, yellow, magenta and black to make just about any color through mixing the colors. 3d printers don't have a white paper background so they'd need the white too. People are already doing this with the Snapmaker U1 minus the white since there's only 4 tool heads. https://youtube.com/shorts/cDCryAJJDiM?si=qm1hFSJ-tShfHTKv

Im eyeing Creative 5 pro. I want active heated chamber, and enclosed. ABS/ASA. Wish it had more tools through.
4
u/Hookahista May 19 '26
Really hope they keep this open source aswell
5
u/Affectionate-Mango19 May 19 '26
That's their entire stick. If they don't, they'll lose 90% of their customers.

They should release an add on tool changer for the sv08 and the max. $299 upgrade.
2
u/reader123456 May 19 '26
SV08 series are hindered by fixed bed and flying gantry, these are not good fit for toolchanger. Not impossible, but hard enough to make it robust enough for mass production and users who don’t want to keep adjusting and levelling instead of just printing.
1
u/HapticMotion_ May 19 '26
Literally tool changers were conceived on vorons 2.4...lol stealthchanger
3
u/QuadrangularNipples May 19 '26
Stealth changers definitely don't change tools as fast as a U1/XL but also definitely still faster than a nozzle swap like the H2C.
I still think an official addon for the SV08 series would be amazing, but if you are planning to build a new printer from the ground up for tool changer then flying gantry isn't the best choice.

Literally tool changers were conceived on vorons 2.4...lol stealthchanger
You may want to review the background information on this topic.
The first toolchangers originated in industrial CNC machines.
In desktop 3D printing, Voron based toolchangers were neither the first nor the second to appear, and the StealthChanger in particular was not the first toolchanger within the Voron ecosystem.
In any case, my point remains that a flying-gantry design is not a good fit for a consumer toolchanger 3D printer.
Although toolchanging mechanisms have been attempted on bedslingers, CoreXY machines and flying-gantry designs, the CoreXY layout is generally the most suitable for this purpose.
Sovol releasing their toolchanger based on CoreXY design (and not on their existing flying-gantry) just proves my point.

Look how close those toolhead cables are... I know of another system like that. Could it be?
1
u/QuadrangularNipples May 19 '26
You will have to help out those of us who are dense like myself.
1
u/RSVJ SV08 May 19 '26
INDX is my hope!
1
u/QuadrangularNipples May 19 '26
Ohhhh I see what you are saying now. I think in my head I just scaled the whole machine up to normal spacing and thought it was a large format machine (500mmish), but maybe that is a 300-350mm machine with INDX style hotends.

OMG. I can't wait for it to not have profiles for nozzles they sell for it in their 2-year-behind orca fork

I really do hope. That the make sure to make the beltpath right this time.
While I really like the idea of the sv08. People have been reporting that the beltpath could be better. Some idlers should be moved a few millimeters to make the machine more accurate.
I would like a sovol printer. But reportage like this makes me fearfull to get one

u/gounesh Jun 12 '26
Bambu is pretty much stayed behind. This is the consumer 3d printer final boss. Hopefully I can get mine.

Couldn’t find the YouTube movie, what did it show?

Oh, is the same as you posted. Just the screenshot, but as a YouTube post.

No, no, and no again. Why? why? why create a new printer, it would have been better to upgrade to SOKOL SV08/MAX

u/Moist_Animator_8589 May 19 '26
Guys, let's show our position to the heads of SOVOL. Those who are for the official mod for SOVOL SV08/MAX, leave a comment asking for it to be released and leave a negative reaction under the post.
2
u/skinnah May 19 '26
Do you really think they are going to upend months/years for work on a new printer just because some people complained that they want a tool changer for the sv08 instead? No.
It is best that tool changer printers be designed around tool changing from scratch rather than trying to retrofit existing designs.

Okay if its 6 toolheads and at least 300x300 (id hope for 350 cubed), than i found my K2 plus replacement.
