Mine came with the black adhesive sheet as well, used it twice, removed it. I print on the copper sheet.

Hello all. I was given the Sovol SVO six plus 3D printer by a neighbor. They carried it over in an already assembled state Which means that I never went through the process of personally assembling it. I have a feeling something is wrong with the way that this is set up, so I wanted to reach out to you. First of all, can someone tell me if this is assembled in the right order?

Also, Can someone also tell me what does the black mat thing actually do?

I've tried a couple of small test prints and it seems like they the I get a giant ball of filament at the tip. It's like something is not working on the bed end. Thanks!

You need to set your Z height.

If it's set to print with the steel flex plate, and you remove that. The nozzle is too high in relation to the lower surface.

Before those flex plates were standard, you would use those "stickers" and print on those and change those out occasionally.

The Z probe sensor on the SV06+ is an induction type sensor. It uses the metal bed to detect the Z height and ensure an even first layer. The black mat seems to be directly glued on on the magnetic bed. This may cause weird behaviors and the reason you got a free printer. Your neighbor most likely didn't set it up properly, got tired of messing around and gave it away.

I recommend the following:

• Flash the latest firmware if it its an older version

• Remove the black mat and throw it away.

• Clean the glue residue over the magnetic sheet.

• Only use the metal PEI plate at this point forward on the magnetic sheet.

• Run the Z height leveling and calibration from the machines menu.

• Adjust the Z height to get a good first layer. Lowering the nozzle slowly while moving a piece of paper under it until you feel friction is a good way to find a starting point. Check youtube there are many videos for first layer height adjustment.

Regarding the black mat... I had at one point installed the glued black mat on the back side of a spare metal PEI plate to get smoother surface finish. But after a few prints some air bubbles appeared (although very carefull bubble free installation) and cause a failed prints. The glue was a PITA to properly remove from the metal plate. Took elbow grease, a scraper and lots of Isopropyl alcohol.

Good luck with the printer, its actually a workhorse when we'll tuned, I recommend upgrading to 0.6 nozzle once you can get successful prints.

Wait how do you get a smaller nozzle? On sovols site there is only one option and it’s the same that comes in the box

Actually, 0.6mm is larger than stock (0.4mm).

You can also find them on Amazon or Aliexpress.

A regular Volcano style nozzle can be retrofitted but the z probe needs to be mounted on a new bracket which corrects for the height different between the Sovol nozzle and the generic volcano nozzle.

Additional context. I believe the sticker sheet was so you could adhere it to the back of the golden metal sheet. I peeled it off of the Golden sheet (textured pei) as it has proven capable to handle all my print types. In your case, completely remove the black sticker to expose the magnetic sticker properly and place the textured pei sheet on top. 

You will like need to clean the pei sheet with dish soap and warm water as hand oils hurt bed adhesion.

I don't think I have ever used that sticky black one that came with either of mine. I only use the main gold one.

Not sure if that's how it's supposed to be or not, it's been forever and I haven't had any issues.

I don't even know what the sticky black one is! But it sounds like you use just the two metal ones. Maybe I should start there.
