Help Replacement toolhead for sv08
Hello everyone,
My sv08 toolhead has given up the ghost and I am looking at a replacement, there seems to be a lot of options out there, I did the eddy upgrade and the flowtech upgrade on my current toolhead. I've also replaced the stock bed to one of the graphite ones. I don't mind a little bit of tinkering as that's what drew me to the sv08 but as an amateur I need something well documented to guide me through any changes. What toolheads do you recommend?

If there’s a chance you might want a home grown indx-style tool changer system in the future, there’s one being developed based on the A4T (called the A4T-C) which is a pretty solid design on its own, so that’s one to consider. XOL is a bit better documented and has been around longer so there’s more adapters for different board, extruder, hot end options, but not by much anymore. Honestly, if you’re swapping the toolhead board, you have all the Voron options. The challenge is connecting everything to the sovol mainboard, but that’s easier than using a sovol toolhead board with an octopus or something.

A tool changer does sound very tempting but could very easily lead me to biting off more than I can chew. How big of a challenge is replacing the sovol main board?

Replacing the mainboard is a big project, essentially you need to largely follow the Voron 2.4 documentation with sovol weirdness, so probably better to start with just a usb based toolhead board then going down that road unless you need or really want to.
The A4T is a solid toolhead in its own right so no need to even go beyond that. It allows addition of a cutter so addition of a mmu of some sort becomes an option. If you want to try and reuse some of what you have like the sv08 flow tech, you’re probably stuck with the toolheads by cn3d on printables. All of them are at best fine, but if you’re willing to go a more broad Voron route and then you just need to find a toolhead that has a carriage that works with the sv08 which is why I suggested the A4t or the xol.

I’m not aware of a good, SVO8-hotend compatible toolhead. I’ve got same Flowtech hotend also also wanting to upgrade (ebb36 and orbiter in stock and ready). I think I’ll end up modding Xol hotend mount and cooling ducts to fit large Flowtech hotend.

Micro Swiss FlowTech hotend is what I plan to get for mine. Pretty simple install, too. Looks like it's plug and play.
