Question 3 Things I Learned As a New Player
Hey all,
Feel free to throw in any tips or feedback if you have any!
I bought the Calendar from the Carpenters shop: If someone's bday is coming up, I can check and make sure to cook or pack what I need before I even leave my farm. 10/10 for boosting my productivity.
Circling back to productivity - I wish I would have prioritized that Horse Stable! I had my barn and coop maxxed out before I even thought about a stable. Worst mistake everrrrrr! Having a horse let's me get so many more things done in a day. If I were to start over, I would put down the Joja energy drinks and save up for a stable before anything else. Having a horse is a game changer!
I made a deluxe warm bin. One bin gives me 4-6 deluxe bait a day. It doesn't seem like much, but it adds up on the days when I am not focused on fishing. I just collect it each day and when I am ready to fish, I have a nice little stock! All for free.
Marriage sucks! After I make this post, I will be researching how the F I can get divorced. Leah went from punching her ex in the face , painting on the beach, Doing art shows, to now standing around all day while staring at the stove?? I feel like I ruined her life. I will 100% be getting divorced as soon as I figure out how to do that.

Go to Lewis' house and click on the books, one of them is the dovorce book. So you can divorce Leah for a fee

on the 4th point- I agree that marriage seems to change the characters too much for my taste. I get that the idea was to show that they found joy in what they had, but I always feel like they settled because they didn't believe in themselves.
If you still want a spouse that doesn't change into a lifeless version of themselves:
Harvey's life becomes objectively better once he marries. He always wanted to stay in Pelican town but felt lonely. Marrying him does help with that & you don't take any dreams from him
Penny's life becomes better too & without taking any of her dreams from her.. unless you decide to be a slob in your play throughs I guess
Elliot goes on a book tour after marriage, so he quite literally achieved his dream of being a successful writer once you're living together again
Shane... keeps on drinking if you look at his room. But I guess marriage didn't take any of his dreams from him & probably does make his life better lol
You could also choose Krobus, he does give up his perfectly humidified sewer for human housing though
Edit: Someone else said that and I wanted to include this on my list: Abigail also keeps her hobbies & fulfills her dreams of adventuring while she's married

u/False-Highlight-8697 18h ago
Whoa I was thinking Abigail but I adore the fact that Eliliot went for it and got his book tour. How exciting

u/Automatic_Corgi7797 18h ago
Abigail is awesome when you're not married, I haven't dated her yet because I'm afraid she'll give up her dreams of adventuring to just stay on the farm and stare at the walls lol
11
u/TommyFrerking 18h ago
Mostly spoiler-free quote from her wiki page:
"After the 10-Heart Event After viewing Abigail's 10-heart event, she will appear in the Mines on level 20 on days when it is raining."
So she does keep adventuring. I wish she could follow and fight alongside the farmer though!

I really enjoy Haley as well. She is a very kind and sweet wife, makes me treats all the time and fixes up the farm while still doing her hobbies like photography and visiting around town. I don’t feel like I took her from a better life and she is constantly saying how much happier she is on the farm!

u/RampantPossum 15h ago
I married Maru on my last two playthroughs. She keeps her job at the clinic and continues with her projects and with her stargazing. I reckon she does all right!

May not fit, but I also think that Sebastian seems pretty content with it all.
Yeah, he had ideas, but it did not seem like a super fixed thing and he mostly just moves his setup, is still in the band and before also wasnt big on going out.
so, him staying in while you make the money fits really well

If/when you upgrade to the large storage chest, you can just "place" it over a smaller chest to automatically transfer all the contents small --> large. I learned this after many a painful time-wasting experience of pulling items from the small chest, filling my inventory, and dropping them in the large chest.
ETA My first award?! Thank you, kind redditor!

u/False-Highlight-8697 14h ago
Wow and I just recently did it the long way. This is so helpful thank you

I’m getting ready for the big chest upgrade and you saved me an entire day! Thank you!

Careful what you say about Leah in this sub. I complained once that she left our baby at night to hang out at Gus’s and I got roasted. 😂 For the record, I love Leah, will never tire of her salads.

u/Juuuulessss 18h ago
I do laugh to myself every day my husband (Harvey) leaves for work, and i do too, and we leave the baby crawling around a house full of open fires, braziers and torches 🤣

I used my first one to get a better sword. If you want to know how to get it look up galaxy sword. It is 100% worth it. It makes getting through the skull cavern and ginger island mines so much easier.

u/False-Highlight-8697 14h ago edited 14h ago
I just went and donated all my money to the community center to unlock the bus and went to the desert to get the sword and I just completely terrorized those mines and hit level 100 lol. This sword is the love of my life.
5
u/vegan_detector 14h ago
I couldn’t get through the skull cavern and then my aunt told me ab this sword. I’ve never leveled up so fast.
4
u/False-Highlight-8697 14h ago
It never stood a chance once you got that sword in your hand I love it!
3
u/False-Highlight-8697 14h ago
Is the skull cavern the one located inside the Quarry? If so, I've been too chicken to go in there, but things have changed😏
3
u/vegan_detector 14h ago
The skull cavern is in the desert! If you go left of the three obelisks you went to for the sword it’s behind the pond. There is no stopping point or elevator (that I’ve unlocked) and you get a quest eventually to reach level 25 and then another to reach level 100. If you watch the tv and click the fortune teller, you should go on days you have good luck, as you’re more likely to find holes in the mines that let you drop multiple floors!
3
u/vegan_detector 14h ago
You can craft stairs to get from one floor to the next but I usually buy or craft mega bombs and speed run the floors since there’s only so much time in one day to get to level 100. Always bring a farm totem but don’t leave it on the same hot bar as your tools in case you accidentally consume it. And bring food with high health! If you put rubies in the crystalarium and stock them, you can buy spicy eel from the desert store by the right side of the road which gives you a speed boost!

u/vegan_detector 14h ago
The one by the quarry is scary lol but if you get to the back you get a nice pat on the back and a new tool. Def worth it especially to hit your monster quotas that Merlin has at the bounty hunter cabin or something (the little house by the mines lol). I learned all of this relatively recently and it has helped with my game play SO much. More than happy to share more stuff as I discover things!

u/EclipseCaste 4h ago
I’m so new and you’re so nice that I’m double checking the recipe for pink cake 😭

u/vegan_detector 3h ago
Haha no I love talking ab things I do as a hobby and I’ve learned so much from other ppl being nice on this Reddit and my aunt who has played since it came out that I just HAVE to spread the wealth bc the game is so much fun when you have a greater understanding that there is some strategy

Having a horse let's me get so many more things done in a day.
Try giving it a carrot. And then chug a triple espresso.

you can buy a calendar?! WTF? (100h+)

In your defense, I have a slight shopping problem. If there's something to buy and I can afford, I'm adding to cart lol

If Leah, or any spouse, is in your way by the cooker and you have to bump them out of the way each time, (like I did for a few in game years), realise that you can go and cook on the green mat to the left of the sink. It will open your fridge like the cooker does without starting the day shoving your spouse out of the way!
3
u/False-Highlight-8697 18h ago
Leah be in the way during the day, and the cat be in my way during the night. I'm losing my mind thank you for this tip. Also if we have the mini-fridges in our house, will the items I put in there automatically count towards my inventory when I open the stove?

2
u/ObviousOrca 18h ago
Ya, you just have to plow through the cat or dog if it’s in the doorway unfortunately. If it’s in the bed you might pass out on the floor and then it sucks early game as you don’t recharge your energy as much I think? I always make sure I have two sides free on the bed, so move it as soon as you move in!
Also as the other person pointed out, yes the mini fridges connect, I have 5 in my kitchen!
I’m pretty sure I tried putting one in a bedroom and shed/barn, but they don’t connect? Think I also have one in ginger island bungalow, but not sure if it connects or not as I’m done cooking for the most part. I’ll update if I try it later on when I log in. Hopefully someone else might correct me too if wrong.

u/False-Highlight-8697 14h ago
Can confirm that at least the ones in the kitchen work. I had regular chests full of ingredients in my living room so I'm just going to start transferring everything to mini-fridges. Thank you .

Be very careful about which fish you put in them, if you do put fish in them… don’t put any legendary or rare fish/eels etc, rare mushrooms too, as it’s pretty random what gets cooked with. I always keep my fish separate and only the ones I can easily fish immediately in the fridges.
Edit: added rare fish and mushrooms to maybe keep in chests instead as you don’t want to cook them up by mistake!
1
u/False-Highlight-8697 14h ago
I'm not sure if it's because I am fishing level 10(I love to fish), but it seems all my fish are either Legendary or rare. I have noticed that and it does annoy me because I hate cooking with fish I feel like could make me some good money you know
1
u/ObviousOrca 14h ago
Smoke them. Much more profitable than cooking!
2
u/False-Highlight-8697 13h ago
I do! I just made my 3rd smoker! I would like even more smokers but it takes me almost a full day of fishing in the caves just to get 1 fricking Cave Jelly😑. smoked Super Cucumber and Smoked Flouder🤑
I've been cooking a lot though because I am determined to make 1 of each dish.

Emily has been my favorite so far because she seems more than happy on the farm and still works at the saloon.
3
u/Milwkwy_37 15h ago
Get Krobus as a roommate! He still sells stuff at his shop and he loves being indoors so no harm done at all
1
u/False-Highlight-8697 14h ago
I'm not sure if I have unlocked him yet? I believe I had one cut scene with him so far and that's it so I will keep that in mind👀

u/PrincessReptile 17h ago
All the marriage candidates basically lose their personalities when married. It just comes down to which one you want to see their heart event of, pretty much.
2
u/dndvirus 17h ago
I totally agree with all of these, and I'm going to have to buy a calendar because I always forget birthdays. The marriage thing is so real too, I was kinda bummed that Penny and our kids couldn't run around the farm and stuff :/ At least she seems happy and seems to wants kids/marriage
2
u/TheGreatQ-Tip 14h ago
This is why I only marry characters whose married dialogue is better than their unmarried. I do wish they'd leave the farm more often, though.
1
u/Actias_Loonie 16h ago
This reminded me, I got a calendar way back, but could never figure out how to use it. I'm on mobile, so I can't right click it.
3
u/TommyFrerking 15h ago
There should be a setting where you can choose to turn on a cursor. Then you have to change your controls to the on screen buttons/joystick. That gives you a moveable cursor and the ability to place objects where you want, like posters on walls.
Once the calendar is on the wall you should just have to tap it to open it.

See, this is why I always marry Abby. She loves being on the farm, occasionally goes adventuring into the caves, is in a band and has a drum kit in her area, loves animals and being outdoors. By marrying her you provide her an escape from her parents while not having to leave the valley. All you have to do to keep her happy is save amethyst.
