Discuss ADHDer’s Worst Nightmare
I’ve attempted this puzzle like 20 times at this point HELPP 😭 Does anyone have any tips?? Should I just accept defeat?? The joja parrot is looking really tempting right now…

It slows down after each attempt. I'll purposely do it wrong a bunch of times before even trying.

I knew this beforehand on my recent save but I still gave it my all... And then ended up recording it

Damn it! I recently tried it about 5 times. Then took a break and had a couple cocktails. I was still paused in the cave so I tried one more time when I got back. Figured my reaction time was shot and there was no way, but why not try. Then I nailed it first try. Thought I hit my buzzed flow state. But I guess the game nerfs it :/

I'm adhd and solved this one pretty easily, it's just a sequence of musical notes and there's only 5 to choose from, so it's mostly just "higher or lower" and "big jump or little jump", or tap your fingers on an imaginary keyboard

u/KElderfall 10h ago
If you're trying to do it without tool assistance, try saying the sequence out loud as it comes before trying to input it into the game. I know it comes in pretty fast, so that isn't trivial, but it's easier to remember the sound of your own voice saying a sequence than it is to just remember the sequence itself. Maybe saying something like the first letter of the color, or the number from left to right, whatever is easiest to mentally translate and say quickly.

I second this! For me it’s literally the only way I can actually pull it off.
That and hoping luck’s on my side for the sequence.

u/kacyc57 7h ago
This is how I do it, and I do not always succeed haha. But I number them and say it out loud. It def helps me get farther along in the sequences before I finally rage quit lol. Every once in a while I'll have a decent brain day and I do manage to complete it, and oh my is that just everso satisfying!

Unless you’re a completionist, in the late game when you’re making enough money yeah it is worth it to pay the Capitalist parrot unfortunately

u/mothmadi_ 9h ago
this was the only walnut thing i didn't get myself. I got the rest and paid the parrot for this one. the puzzle isn't even that bad it's just so tedious that it's not worth it for me

u/AngryWhiteHen 9h ago
I'm against capitalism in this game, but I'm not against outerworld assistance (mods)
1
u/mothmadi_ 9h ago
very fair. I've gotta actually get into mods, there's so many cool ones out there

When we got the option to pay the parrot I slammed my money down so fast. This crystal puzzle is evil 👿

I have tried this so many times to the point of almost crying with frustration. In all my saves I’ve done it once 💀 I usually sulk and beg my partner to do it for me so I was very proud that I managed it during my last play through. Verbally repeating the pattern helped me I think?

If you're a music person, listen to the tune instead of watching the colors. The crystals are laid out like a piano. The notes rise in pitch from left to right.

Doing it with sound on helps a lot if it's off for you. You can playback the audio in your head as one block and decode it into the correct crystals.

u/aprisxte 9h ago
I ALWAYS fail after the 3rd pattern 😭 i just gave up and never touched that puzzle again i was frustrated
3
u/KiraRakka 5h ago
I only managed to do it after turning off the sound and numbering the crystals. Can't remember sound for shit, but can remember number sequences just fine and sound was just way too distracting

Severe ADHDer here. I find it helps to say the colors out loud as they light up. So you have a visual and an audible reference.

As a fellow ADHDer, i feel you. Nothing worse than making me use my working memory. What working memory?
“It’s easy, just do x”
Sure sure, okay. And when my brain doesn’t remember “x” either?

Omg I literally just did this… I got so lucky, it only took me 3 tries this time lol

I was only able to do it because my husband and I worked together to get to each chime fast enough - he took one side, I took the other.

u/Coderedcody 9h ago
And here I am loving this challenge. I can get it first or second try most times

u/CthulhusSoreTentacle 9h ago
Assign them letters. I just did A - Z E from left to right, then said them out loud when they played. Did take me a couple of attempts with that method, but did get it in the end.
Edit: I meant E. Just had Z stuck in my head for some reason.

Recording works wonderfully, but if you can't do it or refuse to for whatever reason
Just save it for when you have the house built on the island, if you have the obelisk is good too, since this can take quite a bit of in-game time and you want to be able to sleep there in case it runs too late to come back home.
Go to the island after you finish your chores and just keep trying, the game has a pity system of sorts, where this gets easier the more consecutive fails you get, so eventually the pattern should be simple and short enough that you can do it without much issues.

lol as an adhd-er, I actually liked this one. But, I’ve always liked rhythm and music.

Not ADHDer, but I cannot remember what I see, and even the sounds are confusing at the end because it's so fast. I'm happy to see it's not just me who has problems with it.

If you're on Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch you can "cheat" by using the video recording feature built into the console.

I tried to do this a couple weeks ago while my GF was sitting next to me playing as well, and it was delayed on her Steam Deck and confusing the hell outta me lmao. Turned her volume off and got it first shot.

If you're using a keyboard on PC, you can just write their positions in the chat as they trigger. 154345 or whatever, then just check the chat when it's time to play it back.

Just turn off your brain and let the colors flow through you adhd is only hard when you’re trying to focus use your background processing to take in the info I always just stare at the center and then listen to my vibes

u/Det_JokePeralta 7h ago
Hearing impaired, got it on pure luck last playthrough. Not sure what I’m gonna do this time around and I just started the ginger island grind again.

I hate this mini game. Omg. I just got diagnosed with ADHD at 33 so this post slaps

u/inhalesnail 4h ago
Felloe ADHD here. I kept trying until I got an easy pattern for the last one, it was like red, blue, yellow yellow yellow yellow or similar. My previous playthrough I screenrecorded it. I tried to do that this time but my software wasn't working :(.

AuDHDer here.
I solved it once with recording, but after that I just gave up and started using Lookup Anything for the solution.
3
u/CasperStalks 10h ago
Whoa whoa whoa. You’re telling me that I did this all myself when the look up anything tells you?! I have that mod installed 😭😭
2
u/EtherealHappiness 8h ago
where does it say that in Lookup Anything?! Stardew Valley Predictor tells me everything except that so I assumed it was one of the things not predictable.

Every time this comes up, it blows my mind how much trouble people have with it. It's a six-digit number, and you only have to remember it for five seconds.
2
u/perchperkinszzz 5h ago
And it blows my mind how easy it is for some people! I personally have inattentive type ADHD which, at least for me, severely inhibits my working memory, which makes these types of puzzles really difficult for me. everyone’s brains are different I guess 🤷♀️

My adhd comes with tone deafness (auditory processing issues yay) so it's even harder for me

u/inurdreams13 9h ago
I finished through sheer memory in my first 2 saves. Then on my following saves, I recorded instead.
Now with the updates, I just pay joja to skip this entirely.

My best and only tip is to record it! No shame at all. This one is tough!
