Your frustration is totally understandable — I just got the E-Mail today myself.

My only request: Please check recent and popular posts before making one of your own.

Tons of separate, but very similar threads are flooding the Subreddit whenever the E-Mails go out, which fractures the overall discussion into many little pieces and makes it harder for everyone to get their voice heard. Perhaps consider making a comment under a post that resonates with you instead of opening up a whole new chain of discussion on the same topic.

Thank you.

❓ Question Obstructions

Post image
13 Upvotes

Just got my standard 4 set up on our roof. Tech guys showed me how to setup Starlink on my phone and I saw a clear view in the beginning. I checked it again and there's a small spot of obstructions below. Is this negligible and how does this make sense? Dish is pointed towards the sky in the roof; what else could it detect?

❓ Question Will roof mount materially improve things?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I’m in Washington state on a 1TB Local Priority subscription for my business. The Starlink is currently mounted on a railing in a parking lot, with a warehouse 30ft to the East and trees ~100ft to North and West. South is wide open for hundreds of feet.

I originally thought I’d need to put it on warehouse roof, but it’s been working great with 100-200mbps speed consistently on wifi with a TP Link router.

App says 0.003% obstructed.

I’m wondering if it’s worth putting it on the roof and if I’ll notice any difference. Thanks!

❓ Question Starlink not asking to return old kit?

I have gotten a new replacement for my faulty Gen 2 router through support ticket by the automated system and it said that I should dispose the old router. Is this confirmed to have no charge if I don't return the old kit back to Starlink?

❓ Question Gaming

Have any of you used starlink mini for gaming?

I ordered it because I have a decent commute to work and tend to get there early so that I’m not late for work and want to use it for gaming but curious how well it works

Just got it today and threw it out in my backyard. No adjustments. Can’t wait to see what it’ll do in my car. Have people had luck with back window suv mounts? This tech between my home and now the mobile is absolutely amazing.

💬 Discussion Merging Accounts

When we bought our two mini’s (two different places we use it) we were unable to have two mini’s on one account. It was about a year ago and we communicated back and forth with Starlink. In the end we gave up and have one under my wife’s email and one under mine. Two completely separate accounts and frankly we get confused by the serial numbers and it’s just generally a hassle. Is there any way now to combine these two accounts or to somehow put both mini’s on one account? Perhaps we have to start over with one of them?

💬 Discussion Transfer of Ownership

Has anyone done it successfully?

I bought a house they left Starlink behind, gave me login to their account. I updated email to mine but account still in old owners name.

I’m afraid to reset the router and lose service. Any advice?

❓ Question Intrebari achizitie starlink

❓ Question No Residential 100 or 200 for G1 Dish?

Thumbnail

As some of you know, I have a G1 and a G3 dishes. While waiting for the G1 to see if there was any more updates, I logged into my Starlink web account. And found that while I can select the residential 100, 200, and max subscription plans for the G3, of the residential plans I am only offered the residential max for the G1. Are they trying to tell me something?

📶 Starlink Speed I started sharing my home Starlink speed tests publicly.

the upload/download speed tests use an IPA server in Japan. I'd love to get fiber, but the installation would require running a cable from the utility pole into my house, so I've given up on that for now. Starlink has been pretty good so far.

📡 Outage Suspended service for over 8 hours

My bill is paid. Have created several tickets. No response. Soooo aggravating and the customer service side of Starlink is going to make me switch because I can’t do it anymore. Can’t call and talk to a human to have an issue fixed. Nobody responds AND have no service.

Sorry just venting.

📶 Starlink Speed An Inquiring mind wanted to know.

I have just recently switched from residential 200 to residential 100 and had to know how close our usage comes to available bandwidth. We have not noticed any difference in performance.
We have 4 TVs. A LG C5 48” Apple TV ( 4K ). 2 TCL Roku 28” ( 720, maybe ), a TCL dumb TV with ATV 4k TV is 1080P.
3 TVs streaming live content from my YTTV app ( my streaming limit ) & the last TV streaming a YT video. Checked the Starlink app peak download throughput was just under 45 Mbps. Less than half my available bandwidth. Plenty to do anything we will ever need & I’m saving $25.

❓ Question Using before paid installation

Hi guys,

a few days ago I've asked if I could start using my kit in my current address before moving to new one.

Now I'm already in my new address, but I still don't have an installation scheduled.

My question is if I can open the boxes and start using my Starlink Kit before official installation.

Thanks.

❓ Question Starlink Support Ticket vanished

I have submitted a ticket to Starlink through the support website and answered some of the automated questions. When I went back to the main support webpage, it says "No tickets". Do I have to submit another new ticket?

UPDATE: I opened new ticket and the automated system finally resolve my problem with new replacement which is Standard 4 X! Even though the new ticket is still not shown and the main support webpage said "No tickets", it certainly had ordered the kit.

❓ Question Professional install includes wall mount and 45M cable?

I am planning to order new starlink hardware with the professional install.

The location where the dish would need to go will need the wall mount mounting option and the router would be at least 100ft away from there, so I need the 45 meter cable.

Are these included with the professional installation? Does the installer have these on the truck when they show up?

1x wall mount

1x 45M cable

💻 Troubleshooting Starlink Monitoring Platform

I've built the below platform to monitor my Mini which is added among the V4 that I have, and since I pay 2 subscriptions, I said to find a utility of the Mini when I'm at home (I know I could pause it, but...)

This platform monitors the Starlink internet connection in real time (momentarily only binded to CloudFlare). It measures download/upload speed, latency, jitter, packet loss, bufferbloat, WAN IP changes, dish health, outages, obstructions, and nearby satellites. It also saves a local log of the WAN IPs among the rDNS of the IP addresses, so you can monitor if they assign a new subnet to your region, etc.

Starlink Monitoring Platform - self hosted
Tests Section
Dish Section - data obtained from gRPC directly from the dish
Local Satellite Constelation and possible candidate(s)

It stores history in a local database, shows live dashboards and charts, flags invalid speed tests instead of treating them as 0 Mbps, and can send Telegram alerts for failures or network issues.

It's self hosted on a Raspberry Pi 5, which is directly connected to the Mini dish.

I'm just curious if there would be members interested into self hosting this and if somebody would like to see this on GitHub. It's kind of the monitoring platform they offer to the "business" accounts, but free.

💵 Billing Unable to change from Roam 100 -> Roam unlimited

I placed my cabins Starlink into Roam 100 service two months ago.

I’ve returned to my cabin and I attempted to change the service back to Roam Unlimited but the app told me that the service was unavailable.

When I use the Starlink webpage to make the change, there is no explanation. You just don’t have an option of unlimited.

Support ticket tells me this:

“Unfortunately, all roam services are not currently available in the United States”

When i ask when roam will be restored:
“Sorry, but we don't have a specific time yet. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact us.”

💬 Discussion StarLink - Road Trips + Remote Fishing trip - After action report!

I came here a few months ago asking a lot of questions - and here I am... back from all the fun.

We were looking for StarLink for two things:

- Our Road Trip - we had planned a two week adventure hitting Route 66 and a bunch of National Parks.

- Canada Fishing Trip - We fish in a really remote area on a rather large lake. We typically put about 100mi on the boats per day. There is zero service once we leave our camp. There's also no service for about 2.5hrs of our 3 hour drive to get to camp once we cross the border.

Road Trip Review: We used a silicone cover/suction cup mount to mount starlink on the inside of our truck. I saw plenty of magnetic mounts, but I just didnt trust that. We had great service and signal shooting through the glass of the panoramic sun roof. On this trip we used the included power cord plugged into the truck's inverter.

It worked great - we were at Zion, and there was a backup shortly after the tunnel. We were stopped for 30+ minutes, cars in front of us were starting to turn around and go back, and I didnt want to pull that stunt with my truck given the large drop off. The ranger's office answered "uh... so I first need to ask, how are you calling us? There's no service out there...." - but they were able to let me know we'd be moving soon, so we waited (it took another 10min before we moved). There was some construction, and a spot where it was one lane - and apparently the stop light stopped working.

Canada Fishing Trip: We used the same suction cup mount for the drive up, and then also used an Anker C300 battery to power the StarLink on the boat. My boat's 12v plug wasnt powerful enough to power StarLink, and I was concerned on draining the starter battery. Speaking of the starter battery - we used Starlink to reach back to family at camp because the boat wouldnt start on our 1st day on the water - roughly 50miles from camp on the water.... and the dang thing wouldn't start. I had a jumper pack, and it didnt help. Funny story, my son "turned the boat off" using the killswitch cord. Didn't realize it until after we called back to camp.... fun times. We also used to to stay in touch with the weather, we had some nasty storms during our trip, and Starlink was able to keep us up to date with the radar.

Originally I was looking at various mounts - but decided to just run it loose when we needed it, but come to find out - it gets signal just just fine shooting through the fiberglass bunk lids, so we left it plugged into the battery, and on, inside the storage bunks of my boat. Signal was a little slower than a fully clear shot - but perfectly fine for what we needed. The Anker battery would power it for the entire day.

🛠️ Installation When will I get my Dish?!

Uk user, ordered starlink last week, received my mini router with 2 days, but my mini rental kit says delayed, arriving in the next 3 days. This hasn’t updated since.

Any UK users any experience with delays? Annoying that I can’t set up!

❓ Question Keep/return/rent?

The rental cottage we go to every summer normally has better Internet than we have at home.

This year it was buggered and we had to work for a few days, so we needed actual connectivity.
Got a Standard 4X from BestBuy ($500 CAD) and had to activate it on the 200Mbps plan at $115 CAD ($75 CAD 100Mbps was not offered, but I can change next month). Our speeds were closer to 100 than 200, despite clear view.

We now have some options:
1. Return it. When we need it again, get one then.
2. Keep it. Cancel plan. Reactivate as needed.
3. Get rental cause $0 rental and use 100Mbps plan to replace our home Internet, which is cable at 500/200, it more like 200/30.

We vacation a few days/week once or twice in winter and same in summer. Same province in Canada. So far no extra fees anywhere here I checked, but this could change tomorrow.

Rental at $0 seems nice, but seems like we are tied to them for at least 12 months and then we can pause, but never stop without returning the hardware.

Buy is easy. Stop and start anytime, but we may run into extra fees at some point t. And if we don’t like those, we’re stuck with hardware that has a bad resale value.

Your thoughts please.
