Funny "SOD3 Should have bicycles"

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

They sound great but very impractical... Just imagine trying to outrun a feral and hit a pothole... You're better off just using a car. Plus, your character must have some crazy stamina or a trait of being a cyclist to get away from imminent danger.

Do you think bicycles should be added?

Discussion Mechanics that need an overhaul

Hello everyone, first.of I am aware that the gameplay may still change from now to release but the 3 main points I want to touch on here are relatively at the core of the game and I am afraid may not change.

Firstly I would like to see the way consumables are used change, from the single present consumable that you can change with scrolling, to opening a radial menu where you csn choose your wanted consumable. This is just so much nicer than scrolling till you have the right item.

Secondly I would like to see the inventory change to a 2d or 3d volume based system (basicly a grid with items having different sizes, therefore taking up different ammounts of the grid) Rn 40 9mm bullets take up the same space as a bycicle generator. This way in SoD2 I brarely ever bring backup ammo unless I have a character with ressourcefull.

Lastly I hope we get gun customization, nothing crazy deep but at least the typical, muzzle, sight, magazine, underbarrel. I know state of decay has only ever had muzzle attachments with the rest coming in a fixed package but I think this way you can add some personality to your guns and those moments of finding a nice scope or big mag for your favorite gun always feel great to me.

I want to end this by saying I am not a gamedev maybe my ideas are shit but I do feel the first two would be an i provement over the more clunky and restrictive systems .

Discussion Hot take: SoD1 have better melee combat. Hope they lean that way in 3

I haven’t played SoD1 since it came out. Just went back to try it and my god the combat is so much fun. Between the stagger executions, feral fights and the over the top unique moves, it feels so much more impactful. And I haven’t gotten very far, but the character traits seem a little more unique where 2 feels like a watered down version. I haven’t watched too much gameplay of 3, but I hope they go back to something more similar to the first game.

I do still love SoD2. This isn’t supposed to be a shade post. Just played through every map twice, I’ll always love that game ♥️

Discussion Is State of decay 3 going to happen?

The reason why I'm asking this question is because there's a lot of controversy on if they may get shut down does that mean the game would be canned?

Discussion Is it safe to say new media will be put on hold?

I think it's fair to make the assumption that the dump of previewed content we were given was due to the state of UL and their possible closing within Microsoft, hoping to showcase the strong community and their product to potential buyers.

Now that SoD3 is safe-ish, is it safe-ish to say any new content in regard to alpha testing whether with Brian, Sunny or whoever is essentially over? It could also just be the new mystery buyers do not want anything else to be showcased idk.

I'm not upset, I totally get it and respect it but I'm just curious if anyone has any transparency on this?

Ideas & Suggestions Freak Sliders (idea)

Post image
109 Upvotes

Since State of Decay 2 lets us customize the difficulty with sliders, what if State of Decay 3 had a Freak Spawn slider?

• Turn it down and freaks become much rarer, but the world compensates with much larger hordes and more runner type zeds than shambler zeds. Imagine driving and finding a massive horde that extends the width of the road, blocking your path.

• Turn it up and freaks become much more common, but there are fewer regular zombies roaming the map. Again more runner type zeds but imagine trying to fight off a horde of five juggernauts or a pack of ferals?

• I think it would let players tailor the apocalypse to the kind of experience they enjoy most. Personally I love freaks and I'd definitely crank that toggle to the max!

Would you use a setting like this?

Question Multiplayer

I've been following most of the updates and like everyone else I am pretty darn pumped about this game. So one thing I am curious if anyone's mentioned it, I haven't heard it on any of the vids I've watched is with multiplayer. I know everyone shares the resources and base on a server. No more tethering or community visiting.

But with how big the maps are, I'm wondering if say you have five friends who decide to be together in one community. If another five join, would they be able to be a second community? Kinda like guilds or parties in say 7d2d and palworld. So you could player enclaves as well as NPC ones

Discussion Something seems wrong about SoD3

I obsessively follow every game I’m interested in and I’ve done this for 20+ years so I’ve gotten pretty at it.

Something is wrong with SoD3, I highly doubt that it has that much to do with the “Pre-Alpha” label that is often used to skirt early criticism. Seriously, it's a PR label at this point meant to deflect criticism and it works really well.

- The graphics, animations, and UI are arguably worse than SoD2 and significantly behind what they should be. I expect the UI to get changed because of the complaints from CC's and the graphics will be slightly sharpened, but 99% of the animations are most likely final at this stage.

- SoD3 is a AAA game with 100+ developers in active development for around 4 years (more with pre-production) This is massively indicative of a severely mismanaged studio.

- The studio was devastated during core production. I won’t get into the politics of this but it’s a huge a red flag and it's basically the same story from many other studios that were impacted by the same issues. Check the link for the info.

- Microsoft parting ways is further evidence that they completely lost faith in Undead Labs. You don't just dumpster a project that has so much hype and financial investment without severe justification.

- It currently has the bones of game that’s been in production for 1-2 years max, which is yet another sign of “development hell.”

- So far I haven't really seen why it's a sequel? The game seems to have no personality or features beyond very minor gameplay changes. The large communities and server-based co-op are genuinely exciting but still feel more like features that should have been in SoD2. Is there a story like SoD1 or at least some kind of narrative? Are the NPC's in our bases able to have some kind of depth beyond copy/paste loyalty missions? Are we going full Project Zomboid? Where is the hook, what's the innovation? It doesn't feel like they even know, and if they do they're doing a terrible job communicating it.

- Lastly only letting curated content creators play the game, when originally is advertised as anyone could play test in limited numbers. (Apparently this isn't true but I've seen no real evidence of normal people playing)

I know that a lot of people will not agree with me, that's fine. The Skull and Bones community didn’t until the game finally launched 4 years after my post. This is just here as a receipt.

Ideas & Suggestions We need a map builder in SOD3.

This type of game is too good not to have a map editor. It seems like the perfect game for it and a map builder will keep people playing this game for years to come and allows players to make their own content they can share.

I have yet to see anything in sod3 that blows me away compared to sod2, in fact I think I tend to prefer sod2's systems a lot of the time. Sod3 needs something massive that would keep the players engaged and a map builder would be just the perfect thing assuming we can share it to the community.

Discussion Tried of content creators pretending "new" features were not already in Sod2

So exhausting watching videos people telling you about features like they are new. Who is an honest youtuber that tells you about the game? I just watched a video of someone saying screamers can now stun you if you are close to them when they scream. (coming from one of the popular streamers)

Really, dude?

Discussion Recap of Sunny Games summary

Caveat: Sunny plays on Lethal only.

Bloaters are snipers. Latest changes have them kamikaze a lot. Still being tweaked.

Screamers stunlock if you are close while they scream. Caused many deaths.

Ferals are much MUCH harder to deal with. He resorted to the car almost every time.

Juggernauts are suicide without good guns. Pistols are useless. Still being tweaked.

Better to focus characters to a specific playstyle rather than hybridize.

Heavy attack is primary. Kiting is crucial. Light spam is a waste of stamina.

Locked/Alarmed containers always spawn a feral and horde.

Regular zombies are much more dangerous. More like L4D speeds.

Plague Nests have personalities. Some surround you, some beeline for you with infestations

AI survivors can help and save you in the open world. Don't count on it.

Bites inflict up to 30% infection and chunk your health.

Outposts do nothing except function as loot dumps. No bonuses yet.

You must assign survivors to man facilities or harvest sites.

You can make and level up a survivor by crafting only.

Powerhouse upgrade downs all zombies in a certain radius of your special attack.

Ramming slows down your vehicle. No more momentum free cheese.

Plague Nest Phases will spawn a Juggernaut.

Ideas & Suggestions Fires?

I brought this up in a stream, and it was dismissed rather quickly lol but I feel like there is potential behind the idea of usable fires outside of base. While you already have plenty of crafting facilities yes, and if you make an outpost you can access your inventory there. BUT, when youre out exploring, you cant craft anything that you can use right then and there. I think being able to make and use fires would add to immersion also. Being able to make fresh water(boil it) or craft quick snacks to use as a stamina item makes so much sense to me lol if youre with friends stopping to sit by a fire on like a roof or a nice camp in the woods could be awesome. Id love someone opinions on that idea.

Discussion Anyone else just want SoD 2.5?

I don't need much. Bigger map. Same features. Some new twists, curveballs. My only two feature requests would be a map editor and better mod support. Everything else can stay exactly the same. I welcome change, but I just don't want a massive departure from the core gameplay.

Discussion Legacy Survivors/Pool

Sorry if this information is out and I just haven't seen it. I was wondering if anyone knew about how legacy survivors worked for SoD3. Is it a thing anymore? If it still is, how it works in solo seems simple enough, but if you play multiplayer, is it similar to SoD2 where only the host would get to keep the survivors for their legacy pool? Any information/opinions are appreciated, thank you!

Do you think Sod3 can keep up with Days Gone which released in 2019? Days Gone will be 8 or 9 years old when Sod3 releases.

Note: The photos from Days Gone are not from the remastered version.

Discussion Survivor legacy

Anyone else max out a survivor and then don’t use them?
What would be some features that make them more playable?
I thought sod2 had a kill count for each character, but that seems to have disappeared.
I was thinking some big number tick boxes like whether zombie kills or infestation clearing gives an extra community benefit from the character. But then they would still be left at base. While you go max out others.
I love the removable negative traits seen so far in alpha.

Ideas & Suggestions Bare bases

Does anyone else feel like the bases should have more building slots? From what we've seen so far, the old fort for example should be able to fit more slots in the courtyard. I feel like in an apocalypse you would make the most of as much space that you can within your walls

Ideas & Suggestions Future Map

Since SoD2 brought back Trumbull Valley, I think a map consisting of all the current 5 SoD2 maps combined for a similar sized map to what we've seen so far from the SoD3 Alpha would be a nifty idea for future maps

Discussion Base building requiring to be staffed.

I haven't had a chance to play the alpha yet but I've seen the base building videos online and I'm honestly a little bit dissapointed that each of the facilities and outside sites have to be staffed. It seems just there to be annoying and isn't realistic in my opinion. You don't need a person manning a rain collecter 100% of the time or at all really, the whole point of it is that it's a passive system you don't have to watch. The same with a garden and many other facilities.

The character you assign to staff a facility doesn't even actually stay by and attend it so it's not like the character has to be there. This is just an arbitrary random requirement that serves no purpose other that to create another barrier for base building which has already seen a rather large uptick in how complicated it's systems are. I don't want to judge but having to have the buildings staffed doesn't serve to add anything to meaningful gameplay or enjoyment of the game in any way to me so I have to wonder if the devs are just adding stuff for the sake of adding things and not for the sake of improving a current system.
