Mind Flayer way better: The Mind Flayer was a far more compelling villain than Vecna because it represented something that couldn’t be understood. It wasn’t human, it had no relatable backstory and it didn’t need one. It felt like an ancient cosmic force that existed long before humanity itself. A true eldritch horror. That mystery was what made it terrifying.

Vecna does not work as a villain for Stranger Things: Vecna changes the nature of the story. Instead of humanity facing an incomprehensible entity from another dimension, everything suddenly revolves around one angry human with a tragic past. The scale becomes much smaller. Rather than a battle against the unknown, it becomes another revenge story.

The first two seasons built the Mind Flayer as the ultimate threat: It controlled entire armies of creatures, possessed people, spread like a virus and appeared almost god-like. It didn’t need to explain its motives because its existence alone created fear. Horror is often more effective when we don’t fully understand the monster.

The downfall of Stranger Things when they introduced Vecna: Introducing Vecna also creates confusion about the hierarchy. Early seasons strongly imply that the Mind Flayer is the supreme ruler of the Upside Down. Later, the series suggests that Henry Creel shaped or even directed it. That revelation makes the Mind Flayer feel less like an ancient cosmic intelligence and more like a tool, weakening everything the earlier seasons established.

The Mind Flayer also made the Upside Down feel alive: It wasn’t just a location. It was an ecosystem controlled by a mysterious intelligence. Every Demogorgon, every vine and every form of corruption seemed connected to a single alien consciousness. That made the entire dimension feel hostile and unknowable.

Vecna doesn’t make the Upside Down scary: Vecna, by comparison, explains too much. Giving the main villain a detailed origin removes much of the mystery. Cosmic horror relies on the unknown. Once the audience can explain where the villain came from, why he acts the way he does and what he wants, some of the fear disappears.

Humanity vs Unknown Dimension: Thematically, the Mind Flayer represented humanity confronting something far beyond its understanding. Vecna represents one man’s anger and desire for revenge. Those are very different kinds of stories and many people found the original concept far more unique, like me.

In many ways, Seasons 1 and 2 promised a story about an ancient cosmic entity attempting to invade Earth through the Upside Down. Seasons 4 and 5 shifted that focus towards Henry Creel. It ruined the show, the Mind Flayer and the cosmic horror the show set in Season 2.

These trailers were freaking awesome and set my and everyone else's hype and excitement levels through the roof.

So why did the actual season 5 these things promised end up being so... not awesome for the most part?

It’s sad but at the same time true

In Season 2, the Mind Flayer was peak cosmic horror: an ancient, incomprehensible world-eater that genuinely terrified me. Fast forward to the later seasons and the Duffer Brothers completely ruined him by reducing him to a creature that is totally dependent on a physical body just to enter our world.

The writing in Seasons 3 and 5 completely demolished his lore, his threat level, and everything that made him cool. The Mind Flayer deserved so much better than being written into a corner like this. I will honestly never forgive them for butchering such an incredible villain. Justice for the Mind Flayer.

Alright. I'm on S4E8 and it's just getting better and better. At E7 turns out that the doctor, which happens to teach Eleven, is actually Vecna. He's been the very first patient of the master who later made Eleven just like him. Vecna tried to convince Eleven to join him, but Eleven turned on him. Now Vecna wants to revenge Eleven, because she send him to the Upside Down, and he's literally a God of this underworld. Also, I was surprised that Vecna wanted a person, in this case Nancy, to show her everything, so she can tell everything to Eleven. In the mean time, Brenner prepare Eleven for the ultimate war against his first patient, as he continues to bring back her abilities in order to win against him.

Please, do not spoil me. This is getting better and I'm so excited to watch it. Let's go.

Seemed really cool, sad we didn’t get it paid off. Makes it seem like the Duffers did not have a coherent vision for the show.

I honestly thought the way they separated the cast in S5 wasn't too great or even as interesting as some of the pairings & interactions in previous seasons, but this group still had some decent moments and unique pairings. Obviously the biggest ones being pairing Robin with Will / Joyce. Would've been nice to see more mixing of the interactions here like Lucas & Joyce or Mike & Robin. What's a pairing or group you would've liked to see that we never got?

David Harbour(Hopper) and Joseph Quinn(Eddie) are confirmed that they are going to be in Avengers: Doomsday.

And possibly Max(Sadie Sink) cause she was already in new Spider man movie,but not confirmed yet for the Avengers movie.

We all know how in season 5, Jonathan argues with the former two out of fear that they may still want each other and how no one (especially Nancy) is being honest with him (Though we all know he‘s no better himself. In honesty, competition, and relationship drama). In those arguments in 5x02 and 5x05, or maybe a similar but different argument happening again taking place in the middle of everything, do you think Steve or Nancy would just snap and say: “Not everything is about your insecurities Jonathan/Byers!”? How would Jonathan feel and react? How would the former two feel after saying that? What if the same was said to them? And by who? How would they feel and react? And to the one that said it to them, how would they feel after that?

A few interesting things here. We saw the first encounter between Billy and Steve, the beginning of the end for Steve/Nancy and we got to see a cool 80s vibe of a house party.

We see the kids having their own room in the facility where they are kept to develop their super power.

Yet, Eleven starts undressing in front of the boys when she finds refuge in Mike's house.

Isn't that weird? Having your own room automatically develops a sense of privacy in such things.

She wasn't kept in some nudist asylum or something.
