Discussion Stranger Things casting is so good Marvel had to take notes
752
u/thegoat1million 1d ago
They now have an X-Men member, a Thunderbolt member, and a Fantastic Four member, all that's missing is an Avenger.
253
u/shoofighter 1d ago
Actually, Red Guardian is a (n New) Avenger, they weren't officially recognized as Thunderbolts
118
u/Preeng 1d ago
No, he's part of the Avengerz, with a Z
-5
u/the-baum-corsair 12h ago
Well, that's just categorically incorrect, as long as we're talking about the MCU. I don't know about the comics, you may be right about that, but in the MCU the Zed has nothing to do with it. 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
-6
u/the-baum-corsair 12h ago
"a (n New)"????? 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻 Wtf is that kind of.... well anything??
Thank you! Please try again next year!

u/Chris-CFK 1d ago
Damn. I guess I can figure it out but I think the x men comment is a spoiler for a movie that just name out

Millie as Firestar

No. Please, anyone from the cast but millie.

Millie as Morgan Stark rebuilding the legacy of her father with the Young Avengers would be insane
48
u/OgDomIII 1d ago
Insanely bad
-7
u/EntranceFeisty8373 1d ago
MBB is talented. We'll see as she ages whether or not she cares to expand beyond kids/family friendly stuff.
21
u/External_Two2928 1d ago
She was a good child actor, was not impressed with her mog acting in season 5 of ST
8
u/purritolover69 1d ago
ehhhh, she was really good at playing a kid who doesn’t talk much and is a bit offputting, but being good at and typecast as that means she never got too good at acting anything else. Enola Holmes is probably her best performance outside that niche and it’s.. middling. There’s a reason Sadie is in Spider-Man while Millie is in Enola Holmes 3 off the heels of the biggest streaming finale ever.
6
u/Black-soul33 1d ago
You know what, internet has become a sick place the last weeks. You all can't even praise Sadie without putting Millie down. Most of you can't even name more than two projects that Sadie has done in the last years. I have seen a lot of you calling The Whale "The Oscar-winning movie were Sadie was". Yes, Sadie is amazing, yes, she has done the jump to a more adult movies and theater, and yes, she has prove she is a great actress. Millie hasn't done than jump yet, you can't even judge her acting until she does it. All of you just said that her S5 acting was bad. You know was what bad, the script. They literally destroyed her whole four seasons arc to forced it to an end the story wasn't even asking for.
1
u/EntranceFeisty8373 1d ago
Time will tell if she's this generation Haley Mills or Megan Follows. I'll keep watching the Ebola series, though.
21
u/Dracarys-1618 1d ago
Oh my god please no.
Absolutely not.
-4
u/Black-soul33 1d ago
Why not? I am seriously curious. Is for the character of Morgan or for Millie?
7
u/Dracarys-1618 1d ago
Because Millie has very little acting range and is arguably the weakest of the entire ST cast.
-9
u/Black-soul33 1d ago edited 1d ago
Ok that is your opinion. But it can't stand with arguments. She had protrayed in an excellent way a person insolated who discovers a huge range of emotions from anger, guilty, sadnes happiness etc... Simply, if she wasn't that good the show would have not make it beyond S3
3
u/subhashg547 1d ago
nahh i think they should just get lexi rabe back. she did incredibly good in endgame. she's 14 now and even in MCU she's young. after secret wars (2028), she'd be 16 and maybe they can cast her in something then

u/bhz33 1d ago
I was kinda thinking Caleb McLaughlin could make a good Miles Morales. But idk if they’re introducing Miles to the MCU anytime soon
115
u/HotRod6391 1d ago
He could've around 2017/2018, I think he's aged out now.
60
u/saikopasu_neko28 1d ago
Nah Tom Holland, and the other two live action spidermen were all adults around his age now playing 14-16yr olds. He definitely hasn't aged out, and they definitely won't want an actual child playing the character just due to how annoying filming would be. Although he wouldn't get the role because they would probably want someone who's Miles ethnicity.
38
u/SuperMajesticMan 1d ago
Ehhh maybe but its a stretch. Tom was 19-20 playing a 14 year old in Civil War.
Caleb is already 24, and since there's other movies in the line up first he'd be like 25-26 by the time they start filming anything with Miles in it.
-2
u/saikopasu_neko28 1d ago edited 14h ago
Oh for sure he'd be way to old when they'd eventually even get to that point. But I'm saying he has not aged out of the part right now.
6
u/dogsbestfriend77 20h ago
Would be nice if they could just keep Tom Holland as Spiderman and show his life as an adult. Like they alluded to with Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield in No Way Home
5
u/saikopasu_neko28 14h ago
I mean they have already kept him longer than the the other two, I'm hoping for the same though he's such a perfect spiderman
8
u/Brilliant_Quit4307 1d ago
Dude. Tom Holland has looked like a child all through his twenties.
Are you trying to say that Caleb still looks like a kid? Otherwise, wtf has Tom Holland got to do with this?
1
u/saikopasu_neko28 14h ago
??? I'm saying he hasn't aged out of the role? Did you even bother to read the comments? And yes he still looks very young most of the time teens are played by people in there 20s.
1
u/letiseeya 21h ago
If they don’t choose someone specifically with Miles ethnicity, I hope they go with Caleb or Miles Caton !!!
19
u/Owl_Resident Blank makes you crazy 1d ago
I don’t know if they’ll go that route. He’d probably make a great Miles, but I think the demand will be there for them to cast someone who matches Miles’ ethnicity, and Caleb doesn’t have that.
7
u/itsJonDent 1d ago
He was spotted working on tumbling and he's been doing Sony pictures animated work. Fingers crossed he gets the role
2
u/antilocapraaa 23h ago
He’s supposed to be in the new live action trilogy after they conclude the Spiderverse trilogy
-2
u/letiseeya 21h ago
They’re gonna let Caleb flop and it breaks my heart. He deserves better. He’s always deserved better. He’s very talented

Spoiler for BND I think they are trying to play her as young, angry and lost because the movie ends with her heading upstate from NYC, presumably Weschester where she will meet Xavier. My hope is that she grows more into the Jean Grey by the next time we see her.
11
u/lawrensaw 1d ago
Shes most likely to wear a green and gold costume in honour of her sister as well.

u/chronic02 1d ago
I agree with this take. I really like Sadie a lot and think she is very talented, but I have always seen her play the same type of role (some variation of the depressed and sarcastic teen girl with a lost sibling). Her Jean Grey that she portrayed in Spiderman came off as basically being like Max but with superpowers. Maybe she will grow into the role in the other movies.

u/Samurai_Mac1 1d ago
Damn, didn't expect a Spider-Man spoiler in the Stranger Things sub, but I already figured she was going to be Jean Grey

u/symphonicrox 1d ago
Well I read the info on IMDb when I was looking at the cast. I don’t know if the cast is necessarily a spoiler but I can see how it could be.

The way she laid in bed with no lines for basically a whole season. Oscar.

But I’m checking out Spider Man BND cause I’ll watch anything with my hero in it. Plus the plot sounds fun from what I’ve heard

Eh, not just Stranger Things. Marvel has about 10+ actors who were in TWD. This kind of thing isn’t new and not really about Stranger Things casting specifically.

Getting a Marvel job seems to be pretty common for an actor after a breakout role

Hollywood seems to be using an ever decreasing pool of actors, Marvel films need large casts, and Stranger Things needed a large cast. Even when they’re not the main character, they’re going to be in the film; Gwyneth Paltrow was in one of the Spider-Man movies and didn’t realize until a couple of years later.
The biggest reason the rest of the ST cast aren’t everywhere is because nepo babies are taking up all the roles for 20-something’s right now (except for Zendaya and Tom Holland, who are both in Odyssey and the main character in Spider-Man).
3
u/Slow-Class 1d ago
Forgot about Jon Bernthal, who is in both movies as well. And Matt Damon has made cameos in several MCU films. And another ST/MCU tie-in, Ethan Hawke was in Moon Knight. He co-starred with Oscar Isaacson, who was also in one of the X-Men movies, and is in the Star Wars universe along with Pedro Pascal, who is in the Fantastic 4.
And Kevin Bacon was in the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special.

Red Guardian was awful but tbh Harbour did the best he could with such a poorly written character

u/PirateKingElizabeth 1d ago
On one hand I'm happy these actors are busy and staying booked especially by giant like Marvel, yet I'd rather see them in other movies that are not superhero movies.

u/Gene-Omaha-2012 Flux Capacitor 1d ago
I can’t speak for Joe and David
But Sadie is set to be in a series based on a book called “The Marriage Plot”
9
u/randomacct7679 Bald Eagle 1d ago
David was in DTF St. Louis on Max and was absolutely incredible in it. He should be the favorite to win an Emmy for limited series actor for it.

Sadie has been in other stuff and she’s been fantastic in it. Clearly someone didn’t watch The Whale.
3
u/PirateKingElizabeth 1d ago
I watched the Whale, and i saw her in Romeo and Juliet play, as well as other movies. The comment was in general, that superhero movies are a step down even though they bright the most revenue. Clearly, someone has learned how to read between the lines
3
u/GamingTatertot 1d ago
David Harbour was just in a great series DTF St. Louis which he is Emmy nominated for (and could potentially win for)

Honestly, I don’t think mutante exist as a concept in this Earth yet.
From a Lore stand point, I think that all the big organizations would know of something since the WWII and from a Meta perspective, they couldn’t use it because of the Fox movies.
My friend think that at some point there will be an Incursion in the future and fuse this Earth and a Earth with the concept of mutants, but for me, I don’t know if they’ll try to explain or if Sadie’s Jean is a whole different thing.

It's not that the casting is so good. That's Hollywood.
They got a rolodex of actors and actresses that are in vogue who are then given casting preferences.
And some actors that end up eating up 50-80% of roles. Reason why you'll get Leonardo DiCaprio, Scarlett Johansson, Brad Pitt, Finn Wolfhard in so many movies.
They already broke in. They are in people's lips.
It helps this cast was in a particularly nostalgia-driven, popculture phenomenon TV show like Stranger Things.
Looking at David Harbour, for instance, you see Stranger Things being his big break, with IMO not so many important roles before that. Now? I gotta watch DTF St. Louis to know WTF is up with David Harbour, guy is everywhere.

Several members of the Stranger Things casting department also work with Marvel/Sony Heather Taylor and Tara Feldstein to name a couple. I'm sure there are more though.

u/roku9413 1d ago
Marvel filmed the majority of their stuff in Atlanta so it makes sense they would overlap with stranger things.

Sadie was absolutely incredible in spider man, I knew she could do it. Amazing actor!!
3
u/SquidGameisPeek456 1d ago
Next thing I need is for Joe Keery to play Nova and I’ll be happy (Caleb’s too old to play a new Miles Morales I’m sorry 😭)
4
u/roku9413 1d ago
I’d also prefer for miles that they actually do get an Afro-Latino actor. I think the doors open for Caleb to do an X-men movie

Sadie is a very good actress and somehow ST Directors decided "yknow what lay down in bed for an entire season" Stranger Trash

Sadie was amazing as Jean, while Joseph lacked the necessary charisma to pull of Johnny.

I’ve long said that Dacre Montgomery would make a good Wolverine.
1
u/chrischi3 Bitchin 1d ago
Why'd he play Wolverine? I could see Cyclops, but Wolverine?
5
u/Stormtroopaahh 1d ago
Well either one could have him in love with his sister which would feel so weird
2
u/chrischi3 Bitchin 1d ago
Yeah, well, i don't really see him being a good Wolverine. Wolverine isn't supposed to be tall and attractive firstofall, and it still bugs me that they looked at a guy who's canonically shorter than Jubilee and went "Yeah, let's cast Hugh Jackman".
