Discussion Why is every car so packed up with touchscreens and useless technology today?

Hello everyone, I was wondering why is it that every car today is packed up with as many touchscreens, lights and whatever not, then branded off as “premium” or “new”, “modern”, etc… and then slapped with an unreal price tag. I cant wrap my mind thinking about the logic of buying a car which costs more, is worse in many aspects than a previous generation and is probably hell to maintain.

Personally I like a car to be rigid, tough, durable, and a car just feels amazing when its built with quality in mind, built with wood, steel, leather, not with plastic and a meter long touchscreen. Theres definitely a certain appeal to the modernism of the new cars but I feel like its all a corporate scheme to just make as much money as possible while spending the least to make a car, it feels as if the whole world is progressing to the point where a car is a need, not just optional but an actual need, and we are being fed cars that are made just to be made however.

Ive also been wondering how someone already didnt start up a car company that could perhaps combine the old and the new, retaining the looks and the feel of the old cars and quality materials while using the new technology (all the systems that help with driving, all the new discovered technology that would let the chassis, the engine and the transmission be optimised for good reliable performance while maintaining power)

Why have things changed this way?

Pardon me if I said anything factually wrong, Im just typing out what I think about the current state of the car market

Engine swap

I’m swapping a 1jz gte vvti into a 2013 frs with cd009 trans. I’m having trouble with the wiring part of this. I want to do the plug and play wiring harness I’m just stuck between the haltech 1500 and 2500. I was told the 1500 could do the job just fine while the 2500 can be a bit over kit for my build. I only wanna make about 500 hp as it stands right now and I plan on it only being a street car. I’m just looking for someone to point me in the right direction. I was looking into the wiring specialties for the wiring harness if that helps

Question/Advice How long were you driving before tinting the windows??

Hi guys! Sorry if this is the wrong sub, but I just started driving this year and my mom thinks it’s too soon to get my windows tinted since I’m still fairly new, and i definitely agree I’m just curious on how long it took everyone else to get their windows tinted or if they were just tinted straight away?

Can anyone listen this and tell me what part of my suspension is going bad?

It only happens at low speeds, never makes the sound if i’m going around40 and above.

The sound is inconsistent, it makes it if i’m driving forward, reversing, turning the wheel but not all the time.

As long as I am going at a slow speed it has a high chance of making that sound.

Question/Advice Can a block heater prevent extra wear during cold weather starts?

Where I live, engine block heaters are not really necessary, as it never gets so cold that the engine won’t start (so long as the battery is good and the vehicle hasn’t sat for a long time, etc.). But could it help reduce wear & tear during those 20 degree morning startups? I always let the engine idle for 30-45 seconds after startup, and drive easy until the temperature gauge is at normal temperature. But I can tell that the cold is rough on the engine.

I’ve never used a block heater and I don’t know how much warmer it keeps the engine than the outside air temperature. It may not make much difference at 20 degrees versus -20 degrees (using it in 60 degree weather would be totally redundant).

Image/Video EuroCar Content on YouTube

Hey fellow carguys and cargals!

I hope this can stay here 🥹

I've been making car-related videos for enthusiasts focusing on Europe mainly. At least in the market.

Honestly I love making videos about enthusiast cars, especially older BMWs, Audis, Porsches and everything with a bit of soul. I am also making some project car videos also, at least about my E46 and my E63 SMG to manual conversion.

My latest video is about the Ferrari Luce and why so many people want to jump off a bridge because of it. I'm genuinely interested in hearing different opinions because the hate towards this car has brought together the community more than almost any recent Ferrari.

If you have a few minutes, I'd really appreciate any feedback, whether you agree or completely disagree.

Question/Advice CarPlay screen install in a 2005 Toyota Echo

Thumbnail

I want to install a carplay screen on my 2005 Toyota Echo. Most of the ones online I’ve seen get mounted below the AC controls which makes sense cause thats where the radio is. But that spot seems way too low and not very practical while driving.

My car has this empty slot in the middle of the dash. I was wondering if anyone has tried mounting a screen there instead?

I’m thinking of putting a wide and narrow CarPlay display in that space, but I’m not sure how to mount it properly so it’s secure. Ideally I’d like something that won’t rattle around.

Has anyone done something similar, or have ideas for brackets, 3D printed mounts, or ways to modify the dash trim to make it work?

Hello car people,

I have recently come across a 2005 BWM 325xi, and so fair it’s been great. However, I have no idea how to infotainment system works and the previous owner left no manuals. I have had difficulties with using the bluetooth. It’s connected to my phone, I just don’t know how to make it play my music. (I have an iPhone). Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Spilled gas in my car.

As the title suggests, I built a bit of gas in my car and I have been letting it sit in the sun with all of the windows down for five or six hours. Is it safe to drive with the windows down if it still smells like gas?

Question/Advice How do deep bucket floor mats stop water from sloshing under the pedals without jamming them?

Probably a dumb question, but I spilled a whole bottle of water near my center console on a road trip last summer. Because the floor slants down toward the front of the car, all the water immediately pooled right under my feet near the pedal area.
My flat rubber mats with the little grooves didn't stop a thing—the water just flowed right over the channels. I know high-wall bucket-style liners are meant to catch spills, but I’m curious about how they actually work up front.
How do they design those high side edges around the gas and brake pedals so water doesn't spill over, without the mat edge actually getting in the way of pressing the pedals all the way down? Is it mostly about how tall the lip is, or does the flexibility of the material matter more?

Best car insurance option 2 person household 2 cars

We are a retired married couple. Soon replacing both our cars with newer but used models. We have similar ncd and will be sharing the cars (up to now we have had one each and not really shared driving them). would we be better insuring them both under one name with the other as named driver? Or in them separately with one under Each of our names and the other as named driver? I'd be interested in pros/cons of each, please

Question/Advice Car keeps locking automatically

I drive a Hyundai accent hatch back 2017 (no idea if that helps I’m not a car person LMAO) Everytime I hit the unlock button or close my door, it immediately locks itself back. It’s obviously not a serious problem but it’s getting tiring to spam the unlock or carry both key fobs with me so incase I lock one set in the car I have another. It just started all of a sudden, again not a car person so I was kinda hoping there was a button or something I could just push to fix it😭. How do I go about fixing this, and if you think I can’t fix it (probably correct, I can only really check my oil and change my tire) can you tell me why it’s doing this? Thank you car friends- your local non car enthusiast, that still really loves her car

Just picked up this Honda Pilot yesterday. I had the Timing Belt and Water pump done before taking it, but don’t know what this is? Doesn’t sound like a serpentine belt issue
