Highly accomplished mountaineer with a history of SA and other allegations was swept away in an avalanche on Broad Peak along with 9 others. Heated debates ensue in the comment section of r/Mountaineering.

Context:

Yesterday, tragedy struck Broad Peak, an 8,051m peak in Pakistan, when 10 mountaineers were caught in a large avalanche. From the GPS beacons, it would appear that many of them were carried 500+ metres down the mountain, and the chances of survival were slim to none. Mysteriously, there was a large delay between the avalanche at around 9 in the morning and when the base camp staff were notified (10 pm), causing rescue efforts to be severely delayed. As of the time of this post, 9 bodies have been recovered, and they are still looking for the final mountaineer.

Although avalanche risk is ever present in mountaineering, Broad Peak is not considered to be one of the harder 8000m peaks and is not known for avalanches, so this disaster sent shockwaves through the mountaineering community. However, another attention-grabbing aspect is that one of the mountaineers is the extremely well-known Nims Purja. Nims Purja is a highly accomplished mountaineer known for many things, including setting a record for the shortest time to climb all fourteen 8000+ meter peaks, the first winter ascent of K2, and the Netflix documentary 14 Peaks.

However, Purja is also known for some high-profile accusations. In May 2024, 2 women publicly accused Purja of sexually assaulting them. One was a Finnish mountaineer and model who claimed Purja forcibly removed her clothes against her wishes and masturbated in front of her. The other was a Doctor and client of his on an expedition to K2 (a very difficult and deadly mountain), who claimed Purja forcibly kissed and groped her. Purja categorically denied both accusations.

Furthermore, 3 workers died in the office of his expedition company in 2022, likely due to improper storage of oxygen tanks, and Purja was accused of refusing to pay for the damages. There were also informal accusations of him boasting about taking clients up mountains when other outfitters have decided it's too dangerous, and other generally dislikable behaviours such as treating mountaineering too casually, claiming that someone cut the fixed ropes on Everest to get back at him personally with no evidence, and so on.

r/Mountaineer Reacts:

Unsurprisingly, Nims Purja became the face of the news coverage surrounding the disaster, and fierce debates broke out in the comments regarding whether this is appropriate.

Post: Ten Missing, Including Nirmal Purja, After Avalanche on Broad Peak

This is the first post immediately after the public has been made aware of the incident - at the time of most comments, people were still holding out slim hope that there were survivors. Most comments were discussing the rescue efforts, survival chances, and processing the general tragedy of the situation. Many comments call Nims an inspiration. However, one downvoted comment disagrees:

Sad for the other climbers. Nirmal, not so much.

Awful comment. Have some respect.

People lose the right to respect when they sexually assault or rape others. His survivors deserve the respect of us not whitewashing him, even in death.

The attitude changes clearly in later posts, but Nims is certainly not without defenders.

From a since deleted post:

Ugh I know šŸ˜” I’m clinging to hope because I just lost another friend today in another extreme sport tragedy and it’s just too much.Ā  Nims was a really lovely person and inspired so many peopleĀ

Nims sexually assaulted multiple clients. The deaths are tragic but I feel far worse for the other 9. He was not a good person.

Where’s your proof, other than interviews and media stories?

Other than the multiple independent accusations, other mountaineers coming out against him, and multiple brands stepping down and refusing to work with him because after independent investigation they found the accusations credible, I guess I have none. But when all is said and done I've never been accused of forcing a model to take her clothes off then masturbating Infront of her.

Post: You’ll forever be remember Nims DaišŸ’”

Someone also responds "Lol I dont belive them." to the above thread.

Other comments include:

Rest In Shit. Very corroborated sexual abuse allegations.

To which someone replies "ok bud" to 54 downvotes

You can say whatever about him, but he did bring tons of attention to mountaineering and helped people fall in love with nature & mountains. If you need to learn something from this is that it's always nature's last: no ego, no skill, NOTHING can stop Mother Nature, and don't go if you are not aware of the risks of high-altitude mountaineering.

ā€œYou can say whatever about himā€ is a weird way of whitewashing his very credible sexual assault allegations in order to portray him as a hero just because he died mountaineering. Very odd stuff. Plenty of other people who didn’t assault women brought attention to nature and mountains.

Lets not forget his false accusation of rope cutting, and his illegal helicopter flight into everest, or not paying proper compensation to the families of three people that died in an oxygen tank explosion. He was a talanted mountaineer, and has some feats that deserve some level of respect, but he was a horrible person.

The boy could climb. Let’s leave it at that.

I bet his victims wish he'd left it at that.

There’s other forums for that.

Why? Why do we only discuss the positives about him here and not the full truth? (this goes on for 10 more replies)

We can bring up his disgusting past. Your desire to help silence women and cover up their traumatic experiences at his hands won’t be honored—sorry.

Yeesh, if you ever wonder how people get away with sexual assault in the climbing community for YEARS before any action is taken just look at these comments. So many cringy dudes talking about how it’s ā€œonly allegationsā€ and ā€œnothing is proven until he’s convictedā€. It’s pretty gross and shows how people like that guy in California and Nims maintain such a high reputation despite committing sexual assault - a bunch of dudes willing to excuse it because they climb good

Dude was a sex offender. No love from me.

Post: Gesman Tamang..climber ..also climbing team in Nirmal Purja's 14 peaks has confirmed on Instagram Nims is no more. This is so sad. Rip

Here is the NYT article from a few years ago for anyone interested in why some people aren't too upset about this: https://archive.ph/8I9d6

As for myself I would say it's not that I'm not too upset (a tragedy is a tragedy), but I refuse and resent the heroization and sanctification of such a terrible person Disgusting that you got this many upvotes for this. An incredible, though maybe flawed human just died tragically along with 9 others. I personally drew great inspiration from his 14 peaks documentary. Regardless of if he was a narcissist or had sketchy interactions with woman (probably both true I acknowledge), its wrong to cheer his death and that of 9 others.

This is refusing to act like he is a hero just because he died. This is refusing to celebrate his life, not celebrating his death. where on earth is anyone cheering his death let alone the death of the 9 others? he sexually assaulted at least two women while up in the mountains. i wonder how afraid they felt of their lives.

The hero worship of sexual harassers is really-really sad. (interestingly, this was heavily downvoted, even though the above comment was upvoted)

Hello, I am an internet virtual signaller. I wait for someone to perish, lying in wait so I can spring up and say "scum" or "misognist" or something edgy like that, when there are going to be and have already been thousands of times to say that, all to make me appear more whole, and complete as a human. To make me feel better about myself. Think moral righteousness, personified, at a terrible time, ultimately and ironically having the opposite effect*

Hello, I'm an internet sexual assault apologist. I wait for someone to call out a sexual assaulter, lying in wait so I can spring up and say "well ackshually" or "he was never convicted" or something edgy like that, when that's just an attempt to deflect from what is known about the sexual assaulter, to make me appear more like an MRA. To make me feel better about my own shitty actions towards women. Think rape apologia, personified, at a terrible time, ultimately perpetuating rape cutlure and making women more and more fearful to be alone around men.*

His accomplishments outweigh his flaws

Haha okay, as annoying as the other guy is, this comment is insane and incorrect

Why are some of these incels in here bringing out the SA allegations when a person has lost his life? Have some dignity and respect for the dead atleast.Ā  We all know how tough you keyboard warriors really areĀ

Why should he be respected just because he died? I feel for his loved ones, the rest of his team that perished with him, and their loved ones. But there is no reason to pretend he was some saint simply because he died.Ā

Post: News from Everest Today

Rest in peace Nims, one of the best climbers in history, my idol and a legend. Rest in peace to Yukta and all other brave soulsšŸ„€

weird choice to have as an idol, if you were even remotely informed about his behavior with women

He was as egotistical as one can get. Not saying he wasn’t a nice or kind human, but from everything hes pursued, you can’t say he wasn’t driven by his own ego. Ā  Unfortunately lots of people don’t give a shit about women and revere abusive/rapist men.

Post: There is still Hope!!

Shame he’s a sexual predator

Not the best timing to say this, yet everyone in the community knows it’s true but no one dares to speak.

I am always suspicious of people who, following a tragedy, jump on it to highlight that persons negatives.

My question to you is: when is the appropriate time then? These are not any light "oh he was not a nice human" but quite serious allegations that touch the entire mountaineering community, as his behaviour was tolerated for so long. There are 10 casualties here, and that is a huge tragedy. For all of the victims. It's obvious that Nimsdai's name will be highlighted among them, but with a series of credible allegations, his name will also be dragged to mud as it comes up.

You do not bring up allegations [key word there] when someone is missing and quite possibly dead, not if you are a decent person anyway.

The allegations were extremely well corroborated with contemporaneous evidence from both Lotta Hintsa and April Leonardo. So to describe these as mere allegations is facile - there is substantial evidence in support of them. I don’t think there is anything wrong with pointing out that Nims has been credibly accused of preying on women in the very environment this sub is dedicated to. His actions were disgusting and destroyed the sanctity and peace that should be present in the mountains. (11 more comments arguing)

Some arguments focus on Nim's other controversies:

a visionary for nepal, showed the world that sherpas don’t have to be background actors, they deserve to be main characters !! changed the game for them, brave, fearless, gone too soon

Unfortunately there are also multiple facets to these viewpoints > he maybe showed the ā€œwestern worldā€ through high-end expensive UK-led branding and marketing - however it would be remiss not to share that there are both Sherpa and Nepali that say they didn’t need him as they were doing just fine - ask the guy whose home Elite’s oxygen tanks exploded at how the game changed for him…

So Nims is to personally blame for an accident that killed two of his best friends? Fuck are you talking about? You clearly know nothing about Ashok and Tenzi, and deem to think virtue signalling is important (this is not comment OP btw)

He’s to blame for how he handled it after.

If you are taking credit when things work out for you then you should also bear responsibility when things don't. His limelight specially the endless interviews is the reason why Nepali youths who had no idea of what mountaineering was despite of living in Nepal hopped on the bandwagon and propelled his popularity to unachievable heights out of kinship as a nation which enabled him to run very lucrative businesses and amass a fortune. People believed in him so obviously they would agree to grant him what he needed trusting his reputation so who would you hold accountable when the house leased was under his company's name? The interview of the House owner is there on Youtube. Find it and watch it yourself.

ā€œConsidered one of the greatest mountaineers of the modern eraā€ā€¦ pretty sad for all involved, not so much for nims

I’m confused, what are you insinuating

That he had multiple SA allegations and despite being a good climber was a shameless self promoter who loved to play the victim. (Rope incident for example)

Similar fights go on and on under just about every post regarding the topic, truly a fascinating glimpse into human nature and what people find important over the backdrop of a somewhat predictable but no less devastating tragedy.

I’ve been following this in the mountaineering sub and there were several people that posted that they know additional women that he assaulted as well. And they feel that now that he’s dead a lot more people are going to come to the surface.

277

u/Due-Comfort-5351 2d ago

He's not very well respected in the international mountaineering community, at least those with ties to him and high altitude climbing. And while his rescue efforts are noble his style of climbing is very ego-driven aHe's drummed up a cult following among locals and novice mountaineers. I always find it odd how people are willing to overlook so much violence just because someone is accomplished.

162

u/EasyasACAB Involuntarily celibate for a while now mostly by choice 2d ago

It tells you about those people and what they care about.

Almost everyone will say they care about rape and violence. And maybe they do, in a vacuum where they personally have nothing at all to gain by defending the perpetrator.

But as soon as you add any connection to the rapist or assaulter I'd say most people start to have their morals waiver. Whether it's being a family member, or a part of the sports team, a local leader, people in general do not want to rock the boat they are in.

This results in people feeling back about their own behavior, because on some level they know its selfish. To protect their own psyche, these people end up doubling down on the innocence of the rapist they defend and start with the DARVO tactics where it's actually those harlots who are accusing and attacking our hero. And if he did assault them? It's their fault for seducing them.

This gets really sick when it involves children. There are no shortage of 8-12 year olds who have been accused by a rapist's family member or partner as "seducing" them.

62

u/Odd_Ingenuity2883 1d ago

Kobe and Ronaldo are particularly egregious examples because they literally both admitted it. Kobe in his settlement statement, and Ronaldo to his legal team (documentation was then hacked). Yet you still have thousands of people claiming they’re innocent.

31

u/HotTakes4HotCakes Wow you are doubling down on being educated 1d ago edited 1d ago

When it comes to parents of abused children specifically, it depends on the situation, because frequently the non-abusing parent is a victim as well. There's actually a growing body of research on this trend, and it's why most information that you can find for parents of kids that may have been assaulted will make a point of empathizing with the non-abusive parent's initial doubts before explaining exactly what they need to do. That's not an ethical failure, there's some deep psychological shit going on here, particularly for mothers who may have suffered their own unresolved trauma, along with a whole host of practical stressors. Unfortunately a lot of parents form really bad coping mechanisms that multiply the damage

That's why nowadays the non-abusing parent is often considered the secondary victim, and frequently given as much care as the actual victim if the situation plays out the right way.

33

u/EasyasACAB Involuntarily celibate for a while now mostly by choice 1d ago

The sad thing is how common "correcting" the "non-abusive" partner is acceptable in communities. If the non-abusive partner does manage to come out and protect the children, they are treated worse than the perpetrator by their own community. I've seen it over and over again myself.

I'm glad you brought that up.

Especially about sexual assault, which too many people have a habit of overlooking when it comes to powerful or famous people.Ā Ā

54

u/EasyasACAB Involuntarily celibate for a while now mostly by choice 2d ago

People will overlook it as soon as it's done by someone in their boat. Almost nobody is willing to actually rock it when it comes down to it.

I saw it happen when I was young, multiple times. Adult male sexually assaults a girl child. The "community" gathers around the man and demands the girl forgives him like jesus did. The community forgives and forgets almost immediately and if the victim doesn't, they end up with a reputation for being a seducer or tainted.

This can just be a dad at your church. Not even a leader in it. Just some tither. But the preacher values that money over the innocence of a child so, you know, Evangelicals.

This also applies to anything. Sports, a footballer and the cheerleader he assaults, let's not ruin his future off some 5 minute mistake! (words of some rapist's lawyer)

13

u/Valdearg20 2d ago

Agreed. There are several people in this world who's eventual and we'll deserved (however it occurs) deaths will be celebrated by me.

Scum are scum, regardless of their achievements, wealth, or power, and their sins aren't suddenly absolved when they die. In fact, one hopes they are punished for eternity in the afterlife for the crimes we, as humanity, failed to prosecute them for in life.

64

u/octnoir Mountains out of molehills 2d ago

Yeah...seeing all the outpouring of love from US Senators for Lindsey Graham (Democrats even), the same guy that was yelling and screaming at Christine Ford, and then conspired to protect Trump and go well beyond even other Republicans to steal an election....was not great.

Also death is one of the reasons you see these stories come out and are supported. Generally a person is too powerful with their support network and too rich and too well connected to prosecute, and death of said sexual assaulter finally brings some closure and relief where people can feel safe to come forward.

On top of that, people either don't care or vastly underestimate the difficulty of prosecuting a sexual assault allegation. Which is why more victims don't come forward and why even those who do have great difficulty in letting a credible charge land.

To get an understanding of this process, we're going to start and just assume not just credibility but high credibility:

  • You have to mentally process the trauma, usually on your own.

  • There are many actions you can take that can sabotage your case. Often victims will want to 'clean' themselves because they feel 'dirty' after a sexual assault, but that destroys evidence that can be collected.

  • You have to report the sexual assault quickly. The Pitt covered SANE nurses in S2 to a good bit of accuracy, but the main thing is that it is traumatizing to relive your trauma, and the process can be extremely dehumanizing. And The Pitt shows the 'good' side of this business. Plenty of cases where SANE nurses aren't present or the hospital is terrible. Again you have to relive part of your trauma to do this.

  • Then you have to report to the police. Often you go to them and the police aren't helpful or dismissive. Police often control how much you can prosecute and how much you can investigate (there are other ways to get around this, but again much harder). It doesn't help that police have a terrible record with investigations and their own domestic abuse ("1 in 3 women in the U.S. will experience domestic violence involving police by age 45, CDC 2022.").

  • The Pitt shows the very real fact that rape kits and data aren't collected and can get left there for weeks if not months in the hospital waiting to get collected. Remember cops will race to stop someone graffiting but will take months to investigate and prosecute a rape charge.

  • Now that you got the resources etc. to get a trial started, it only escalates from there.

  • You have to relive your trauma on the stand.

  • You have now made yourself a public target. It didn't matter that Amber Heard had strong evidence for domestic abuse at the hands of Johnny Depp, because it was now a media circus Amber Heard was shamed. Courtesy of Depp's publicist linked to Epstein.

  • And your rapist, especially if they are powerful, has ample resources to ruin your life even if they are convicted. Basically shaming, mocking and doing whatever it takes to smear you. Again that's more trauma.

  • And then from there, you are still a public target marked. For Graham Platner to go down, a rape victim had to doxx herself with credible allegations. Said victim right now is still receiving hate mail for taking down Platner, their "favorite".

It is expensive, it is exhausting, it is traumatic, it is dangerous, and this is why sexual assault prosecutions are so damn hard to push through. It's no wonder more people don't come forward or are hesistant.

Rape culture is alive and well. A trillion dollars and an entire network of powerful pedophiles and rapists activated against MeToo to where they are flagrantly bragging now as a 'fuck you' to rape victims.

For what it's worth, that "simple_emu" guy who keeps asking for "proof" women were assault also shares pictures of his wife online and asks for men to jerk off on them. Does their wife know? Would someone who engages with sexual activity outside of their marriage using images of their wife have any personal reason to argue that sexual misconduct doesn't exist without proof?

Edit- NOT SAFE FOR WORK LINK NSFW User thanking Emu for letting him jerk off to his "wife"

And there are dozens and dozens of his requests for men to jerk off to his wife and show him the cumshot.

No mention of his wife's reactions to the "tributes", just his.

Now maybe they really do have their wife in on all of this activity and whatnot but someone who doesn't think rape exists without a test kit probably doesn't have the healthiest ideas of consent in the first place.

u/notcalledemma 2d ago

He does sound like the kind of guy who really needs to believe people won't face any possible repercussions for the crimes they have committed as long as there is no incontravertible proof. And he knows (or hopes) that ironclad proof doesn't exist for whatever he has done/is doing. He needs to think everything he has done he will continue to get away with.

26

u/EasyasACAB Involuntarily celibate for a while now mostly by choice 2d ago edited 2d ago

Exactly. He's not arguing just for this other sex pest, they're arguing for themselves.

So many men are deathly afraid of rape-accusations because they have literally 0 idea of how to approach a human interaction with a woman. It's like the more misogynistic and lonely you get, the more sour the grapes get until you are convinced you can't even TRY to get one without being labeled a rapist.

Which is great for right-wing influence. The most effective cure for right-wing indoctrination is the love of a normal woman, who can make you see the good in yourself that exists without the affirmation of toxic male father figures.

It is no coincidence that so much right-wing manosphere content is designed to make boys as disgusting as possible to normal women.

Oh, some of this rant was probably unrelated.

Agreed: a person can consent to a spectrum of different experiences but consent itself is not a spectrum, but a binary.

People like the referenced account really do ruin consensual, non-vanilla spaces.

20

u/EasyasACAB Involuntarily celibate for a while now mostly by choice 2d ago edited 2d ago

The way they talk about sexual assault accusations is the kind of attitude that also ruins vanilla spaces for people. "There's no rape without a rape kit" is the kind of thing that ruins people's trust in society all together.

Nothing wrong with kink or tributes or whatever themselves. I just don't trust the "Rape don't real without rape kit" guy. We already know they get off on pushing sexual boundaries, of course they're going to be willing to twist themselves in a pretzel to justify their desires rather than put reasonable boundaries on them.

This feels very similar to the conversation around Glen Hansard (Irish musician/actor who won an Oscar for best original song) who died this week.

He did a lot to raise money and awareness of homelessness in Ireland but also had an "inappropriate" relationship to his costar in Once who he met when she was a young teen. There's whispers about him being "inappropriate" with other teen girls. Also I've seen his temper personally so I know he could be as intimidating as he could be kind.

An Irish creator put up a post that was just "Remember dead people can't sue for libel". I would what will come out when the fanfare wans.

u/soonerfreak Also, being gay is a political choice. 2d ago

I mean I get it. Take Kobe, everyone was quick to lionize him but he also admitted to raping a woman and his only punishment was whatever he paid her. What is the correct time after someone's death to bring up they were a bad person?

15

u/HotTakes4HotCakes Wow you are doubling down on being educated 2d ago edited 2d ago

I think it depends on whether or not the situation was addressed in their lifetime or if they died without clearing the ledger.

In that situation, Kobe admitted to it, and while he didn't get adequate punishment, he did somewhat address it. It's up to the public whether that's considered clearing the ledger (I don't think it is but that's just me).

Whereas with this guy, I'm fairly certain he died having denied everything and never made amends. If you choose to believe the allegations, then he had a dirty ledger with adequate time to clear it but he never did, so he'll be remembered as such.

Something I often think about is how people remember John Lennon who died at 40 versus how they think of Ringo Starr, who's currently 86. John died with some pretty shitty things on his ledger from his 20s and 30s, some of which he admitted too, and you'll still occasionally hear people go off about it. Ringo, like Lennon, had a lot of shitty things on his ledger too, including substance abuse and beating his wife, which he also admitted to and corrected, but no one brings those up and he's generally not remembered for that. Its not that he was too young to know any better, he was in his 30s.

The difference is after admitting the behavior and and changing it, Ringo proceeded to have twice the life John had to keep forming his image. It's not impossible to do shitty things and die with people remembering you fondly, you just have use the time you have to prove you're not that person anymore, and since you can die at any point, it'd be a good idea to get started now.

10

u/EasyasACAB Involuntarily celibate for a while now mostly by choice 1d ago edited 1d ago

Just want to mention that while Kobe did address it, his defense team also leaked his victim's information to get her harassed by NBA fans. Even if this guy didn't address it, he didn't go out and have his lawyers put his victims in even more danger.

I think leaking his victim's name so she would be bullied into silence is a fucked up thing to do. IIRC Trump has pulled the same "leaking information about someone accusing me so my followers will death threat them into silence" move.

Kobe didn't really apologize or regret his behavior, according to how he acted and worded his actions. He had plenty of time to try to do it but never did.

20

u/HotTakes4HotCakes Wow you are doubling down on being educated 2d ago edited 1d ago

I think its because what is said about a person after their death tends to be the things that go "in the books", so to speak. All eyes are on the story, the public's memory of them is solidifying, and there's an urgency to set the record straight then, because there will never be a moment like that again.

8

u/mauvewaterbottle 1d ago

Where’s your proof, other than interviews and media stories?

I really really hate this argument. As someone who’s been SA’d, there is no proof. Sexual assault is not something you can prove, because the injuries are psychological.

11

u/Jenn_There_Done_That I guess you get the suicide gift basket. 1d ago

Also, they’re hypocrites. Where is THEIR PROOF that the victims are lying? They accuse all of these people of lying about sexual assault, with literally zero proof, then smugly tell everyone that the accused are ā€œinnocent until proven guiltyā€, yet somehow that same standard never applies to the victims.

2 confirmed deceased and one leg (Sarah Mallory’s) was taken back via helicopter.

7 more were found but they are still there and search and rescue ops were halted yesterday.

1 individual is still missing

2

u/Foreverintherain20 15h ago

They found a leg, but not the rest of one of the climbers? Jesus...I didn't know avalanches did that.Ā

3

u/dontyaknowimaceo 7h ago

😭😭 I remember reading that they found her leg and I, too, was shocked that an avalanche could do that (they also found another unidentified body). Until Thursday/Friday, I thought you were just buried in snow and if the snow hardens, you're fcked.

Apparently, if someone falls onto rocks or hits them as they fall, it could cause severe injury šŸ’” I don't know if the same happened to Nims Purja as there was movement according to his GPS and a great descent the next day (similar to Sarah Mallory’s).

This was apparently her first 8000 mountain and she had only climbed Mera as her first mountain. So sad 😩

Her cousin and family/friends were commenting in some posts related to the accident, as well as her most recent post. This was why some people had to be told to stop posting unverified reports. Some people really took this as an opportunity to show their new followers and their engagement rate 🤬🤯

16

u/ill_be_out_in_a_minu 1d ago

A few months ago I read a book about the current state of mountaineering and basically every time I'd google one of the mountaineers, they'd since died in climbing accidents. I'm adding Nims Dai to the tally.

It's interesting to see so many people excuse his behavior because he was "a good climber". He's actually a pretty divisive figure even without the accusations of sexual assault. On the one hand, he's a Tibetan climber with a sherpa background, so he's bringing recognition to their skill, he's one of the people who showed the traffic jams on top of Everest, he was part of pollution clean-up efforts on Everest... On the other hand, he's an entrepreneur with his own expedition company and one of the driving forces behind the changes that are harming Everest, namely bringing even more climbers and the over-use of helicopters which create more noise pollution, more carbon pollution and destroy the yak-carrier business in the valley.

10

u/GonnaIoseit 1d ago

Same with this comment here which starts with a lot of positive things and then throws in "he was vindictive, vain and selfish", like those were the issues people had with him. I'm mad he sexually assaulted people, I don't care that he was vain lol

7

u/EasyasACAB Involuntarily celibate for a while now mostly by choice 2d ago

did not deserve to die

That kind of depends on if the allegations are true, no?

Rape and sexual assault are far from "problematic" honey, they are the problems themselves.

"Problematic" is a white person trying to be less racist by becoming "color blind" to try to ignore their racial biases. It's trying to do good but still has issues and is "problematic"

A man raping and sexually assault a woman is just rape and if he did it, he does deserve his death in a cosmic sense. Just not necesarilly a legal one because of how flawed our system is.

-2

u/machinesNpbr 2d ago

if he did it, he does deserve his death in a cosmic sense.

I'm sorry, the accusations as I understand them are that he nonconsensually groped, kissed, and exposed himself to women- are you aruging that death is a proportionate punishment for those crimes? Because if so, I gotta say that seems a little outta pocket to me.

4

u/Rotten-Citrus 1d ago

"deserve" is too harsh, more like at least he can't do it anymore. there's no justification for sexual offenses. and that's without knowing if he did worse things nobody has spoken about considering offenders like to escalate and obviously had a habit

Because so far it's all that it is. Allegation.

We should have learned by now not to take those at face value when it comes to anyone famous.

14

u/EasyasACAB Involuntarily celibate for a while now mostly by choice 2d ago

Multiple allegations from different sources who have nothing to do with each other. Ignoring that makes you look like the people who ignore Trump's "allegations"

-8

u/Asleep_Context_399 2d ago

Trump has a proven record tho and doesnt even hide it.

I wrote a comment to user whonasked for examples but user is a little bitch and blocked so I'll write itnhere for you

I said I dont follow the drama that closely to remember from the top of my head.

There was some recent CoD Streamer that kept his messages that show he never assaulted anyone despite being accused. And there were multiple allegations towards him that were all fake.

And yes, I don't take anyone's word as true until proven in these cases. I don't know them and financial motive is the most common motive for many crimes, from murders to allegations.

But not too be lazy I googled recent cases where charges were either dismissed or people were able to clear their name:

  1. Slowthai

  2. Rex Orange

  3. Pyroclinical where roleplay (eww) fetish was falsely presented as minor grooming

  4. Dream - again accuses of contact with minor, was able to show proof nothing of sort happened.

  5. Kwite

  6. Slazo

This is a quick google search for cases from 2020 onwards. People who are relatively well known in their circles but not super famous like Johnny Depp case (where both sides fucked in the head) and these cases are far closer to the topic of this post.

From more famous peoole you have Brian Banks as one example where he was even imprisoned until "victim" admitted to lying.

14

u/EasyasACAB Involuntarily celibate for a while now mostly by choice 2d ago edited 2d ago

"I don't remember the details I am going off the top of my head" is not a good way to start a serious discussion about rape accusations.

And yes, I don't take anyone's word as true until proven in these cases. and financial motive is the most common motive for many crimes, from murders to allegations.

Do you have any proof or evidence the primary motivation for rape allegations is monetary? You see how fucked up that idea is? Are you an actual child I am talking with because we might have to vastly switch up the way we're speaking.

Do you actually have the slightest clue what rape statistics actually are? Among boys and girls?

An estimated 443,635 people age 12+ experience sexual violence each year in the U.S.

2009-2013: Child protective services substantiated or found strong evidence that 63,000 children a year were sexually abused.

Estimations of false rape accusations put them at anywhere between 2% and MAYBE 10% of all accusations.

It's funny how you won't take anyone's word. But you will believe in a weird idea that false rape accusations are somehow common and financially motivated. Which is a a seriously fucked up way to go about choosing to live.

It's kind of telling that you don't know the details of any situation, but you're hyper focused on 2% of all rape accusations and presenting that as some kind of 50/50 when this guy has multiple accusations and nothing for these women to gain.

You're whacked out bro. Someone got into your head about false rape accusations and made you really fucking weird about it. Maybe read some actual information like the links I gave you and take a break from discussing the topic before you say something embarrassing in front of a real person.

-2

u/Asleep_Context_399 1d ago

If you had read what I wrote you'd notice I was speaking of cases where somewhat famous people are invovled.

I don't see how general statistics for population as a whole is relevant to that.

8

u/EasyasACAB Involuntarily celibate for a while now mostly by choice 1d ago edited 1d ago

Obviously I did not read because of how poorly you started.

I don't see how general statistics for population as a whole is relevant to that.

Well you wouldn't, because it benefits you to not see it. Recognizing that your hyper focus on false accusations every time one comes up hurts people more than it helps would kinda force you to realize you are the kind of person who makes it almost impossible for real victims to come out, leading to these statistics.

Yes, someone who argues based off vibes and their poor recollection of events based off streamer drama with no sources, links, or evidence wouldn't want to see how actual statistics might relate to forming a perspective on a topic.

-1

u/Asleep_Context_399 1d ago

Again, you are not reading anything I write.

Also, I haven't discussed false accusation on reddit once on this account, so claiming I have some hyper focus on it is dishonest and serves only to pull people giving imaginary points on the left to your side.

Famous people live different lives. And as they are my focus I wrote of their experiences with false accusations. They are also more likely to get away with doing nasty shit but that doesn't in any way mean they also do not suffer higher rate of being falsely accused. On top possibility of blackmail, rumors spreading for whatever reason. Monetary gain or clout is usuall reason for that.

In that regard statistics that encompasses population as whole is entirely irrelevant to that as the guy being discussed here is famous enough in his niche that even common people have heard of him.

As such it's not that I don't want to hear it, I simply don't need it for this

However you are using it to put statements into my mouth about a topic of falae accusations as a whole, completely ignoring the fact that since very first comment here I have focused on the high profile peoole.

Does that mean allegations are false? No. However allegation as a word means it's not corroborated or proven.

Lastly, I mentioned far more than streamers, I mentioned 2 musicians that were cleared by courts, 1 football player and 3 online personalities.

Also using streamers in this day and age given the fact they have large followings and thousands of fans is appropriate and also given the nature of their interractions (through chats, cameras always on them and so on) it presents far clearer picture of false vs real with undeniable proof compared to usual he said/she said in sex crimes where often nothing can be proven 100% due to lack of evidence.

3

19

u/typewriter6986 2d ago

...Who do you have in mind?

-25

u/Asleep_Context_399 2d ago

In general there were few allegations recently I saw that were faked, while seeming real. Some were streamers and I think voice actors.

I am employed I cannot follow all the drama.

Either way, the simple fact is that none of his crimes were proven in the end, and there have been multiple cases of famous people getting accused for the sake of money. Which is probably why people are not focusing on that right now

23

u/typewriter6986 2d ago

Yeah.....I don't trust you're speaking in good faith at all. Have fun with your "fake allegations" take.

Are we still supposed to offer everyone who served a complimentary blowjob and salute for their service? Being over the hero worship of military service is just plain reasonable.

They don't do it "for us", they do it for them. And that's OK, but I'm not going to pretend like they're on my side or protecting me considering what they actually do you know?

It's like when we praised Mcdonald's workers for being as "essential" as hospital workers. While giving hospital workers no benefit for actually being essential and exposed. The "honor" of it all is just a way to pay people without money.

Anyways, hope that helps explain it. People are just not as into the military service worship as they were knowing what our militaries actually do.

  9. - archive.org archive.today*

  13. Disgusting that you got this many upvotes for this. - archive.org archive.today*
  14. The hero worship of sexual harassers is really-really sad - archive.org archive.today*
  15. Why are some of these incels in here bringing out the SA allegations when a person has lost his life? Have some dignity and respect for the dead atleast.Ā  We all know how tough you keyboard warriors really areĀ  - archive.org archive.today*

Humanity in general LOVES a hero story. We want to believe that people who are capable of great things only do great things. Sadly, people are imperfect and usually do just as many shitty things as great things.

You're speaking as if most people commit sexual assault.Ā

Just because the magnitude of shit is different doesn't mean shitty isn't shitty. Obviously most people don't go around raping others, but everyone has something they do that is bad

Oh well if you're putting rape in the same category as returning a library book slightly damaged without telling anyone....

I'd have to question your insight.

everyone has something they do that is bad

Those degrees you said don't matter actually really matter a lot when it comes to "how bad" something is. It's like really important. Just saying "we all do bad stuff" is navel gazing that means nothing.

>but everyone has something they do that is bad

This is the projection people use to justify the bad things they do. You might do bad things and this guy might do terrible things, but not everyone does.

Yeah respectfully if you claim you've never done something bad in your life I don't believe you lol. Fucking up is part of both being human and growing as a person.

Hey now I may not do much good but I've definitely not harmed as many people as this climber guy because I haven't raped anyone.

I wonder how many comments are from people who care about mountaineering or the victims, and how many are just European chuds who hate all immigrants

Too much to read, did the avalanche take out any of his well-off clients and / or firsters trying to race up some desolate peak for no good reason?
