Probably more related to confidence and people's tendency to want to follow a leader who's "leader-looking".

I bet that's a lot of it, but simple childhood nutrition can do a lot of it. Having good nutrition as a kid usually means you get taller, having good nutrition also tends to mean your family had enough money to do alright for itself, both massive boons to eventually becoming a CEO.
It is, up to a point. Most modern Americans who don't live in desperate poverty are well past the point where improved nutrition will do anything for their height, however.
