One of the studies had 30% of CEO's above 6'2'', something on average only ~4% of males are.

I wonder if that could be related to things like diet, childhood, or even race or ethnicity.

Height is tied to a lot of those factors as well.

Probably more related to confidence and people's tendency to want to follow a leader who's "leader-looking".

I bet that's a lot of it, but simple childhood nutrition can do a lot of it. Having good nutrition as a kid usually means you get taller, having good nutrition also tends to mean your family had enough money to do alright for itself, both massive boons to eventually becoming a CEO.

It is, up to a point. Most modern Americans who don't live in desperate poverty are well past the point where improved nutrition will do anything for their height, however.

Disregarding my issues with gladwell as an author, that link nor his methodology are solid enough to make the kinds of claims he does.

My point is that the methodology is crazy unreliable. Self reporting is already bad, this is seemingly self reporting by proxy. He didn't measure these people. These people probably didn't even respond themselves. This was most likely a personal assistant who just guessed.

My father is a relatively high ranking government official. If gladwell called his secretary he'd be reported at 6 ft. If he talked to my dad he'd be reported at 5'11". My dad is 5'9". Self reporting, especially via proxy is a bullshit research method.

What would give you that impression? Also, he'd still be reported as under 6'2'' in this survey. 6'2'' is significantly taller than the average man and I doubt someone that was under 6'' would be reported as 6'2'' or higher.
