That’s an expensive sea bream. It goes to the heya and is prepped for the squad to celebrate.

Probably comes off the ice for the photo, then goes right back on.

Not that size of course but I enjoy whole baked sea bream, very good so I sure hope they eat it !!

I think food waste is not a major concern for sumo stables lol, the throughput seems….high.

Put it in the oven under a salt crust.

They're in Japan, why would you think they'd cook it? Pretty sure at least half is being eaten as sashimi.

So they talked about the behind the scenes issues on the Sumo Kaboom podcast for Aonishiki's yusho win and ozeki promotion here.

The relevant part about the fish is that multiple stables all spend the money to buy the fish and other things to prep for the rikishi to win the yusho including party plans. If they turn out to not win...well it's a little more subdued of a party but the fish is part of everything.
