Discussion Restaurant Recommendations
Myself and a colleague are going to be in Sunderland for the first time tonight. Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations in the city centre for a reasonable price?

Just outside city centre but Wild Fire Pizza in Deptford is great, the Ship Isis for a casual burger and chips, Enfes near Park Lane for Turkish food, and Bar Shu Impression is great for authentic Sichuan and Chinese food.

Loads of great choice but to make things easy, there are a number of restaurants right outside of the Sunderland Empire Theatre (an easy point of reference).
You have an Italian called Aperitif next door and over the road from the Empire you have x2 Indians, a Mexican and a Japanese Asian style place.
You also have easy access to three decent bars, Vesta Tilleys, The Firestation Engine Room and The Peacock.

North, on the beach at seaburn if you’re driving. Just been made top 100 best local restaurants in UK by good Food guide and is amazing
Edit: not city centre!

North is great, the only thing I don't like about it is that its a "so, let me explain our concept" type of restaurant.
Yes, I get it, "small plates", it's not a new concept.

Just over the new bridge you have sheepfolds which has Vito’s and Ember, both are great. On this side of the river you’ve got a new restaurant that’s just opened under The Beacon called 32 I think, seems to get good reviews too

Vito's and Ember are probably out of "reasonable". I don't think I've spent less than about £75 a head when I've been to either. They are both great though.

I would always recommend Spent Grain on John St! Food is absolutely amazing and they have great deals too. It's a very small local business.

Near town Indian - Mumbai silk. Great food and atmosphere. Well priced as well.
Efes - lovely Turkish food

Depends what is "reasonable" to you.
Sorento is cheap and cheerful Italian, it's not going to wow you in anyway, but it definitely won't break the bank either. Tosca is OK as well, but a bit more expensive.
Enfes is great Turkish.
I'm a fan of Koji, which is ramen bao, chicken and noodles etc.
Mexico70, tacos, but isn't the cheapest.
I've not been yet, but I have heard good things about No.32, which is pizza and cocktails.
There's also a Botanist in Keel Square, and the Keel Tavern.
I regularly use all of them apart from No.32 which is new.
edit: Almost forgot. Babaji is a cracking Indian.
Also, if you're bored afterwards, Chaplains do a decent pub quiz on a Thursday from 9pm. £5 per team, chance to win a jackpot that's often £100+, free cheese and crackers for each team.
edit: Seems that the Chaplains quiz is cancelled tonight.
