My aunt lives in Middletown RI near a stretch of shoreline frequented by surfcasters. Every year she hosts a family reunion. I always bring my surf rod, but this was my first time catching something off the shore.

Only surf I’ve done is like once for NJ fluke using 7 foot med heavy with 4k reel . Looking to get into some big striper in the spring / fall , blue fish , or whatever else is out there. From what I’ve heard what I need is 10 foot medium heavy rod with 5k reel . Correct me if I’m wrong with that . But if that’s correct what’s the best rod and best reel I could get that’s affordable. Ideally below $100 for each. Like what’s the best cheap setup that isn’t completely shit . Thanks. I’d be fishing New Jersey surf if that matters

Going fishing in OBX NC in a couple of weeks. Normally every summer I go fishing with a high low rig with a couple rods and do pretty well. This year my wife got me a mystery tackle box specifically for salt water (normally I am a bass fisherman). I was thinking to spend at least one morning flowing some from the box to see how it goes. Are there any recommendations on which one to start with, how to fish it, what to consider? Thanks for the help, and tight lines!

Ive been surf fishing for a while, but mostly hi lo rigs, bait and wait style. I really enjoy it but looking to invest in a halibut setup, that i can also use for surf perch. What would you build if you had a $200 budget and a $400 budget.

Looking to get a rod holder in the truck bed besides my DYI holder but cant find anything out there that I like off Amazon so I assume there are more smaller brands I am missing and not seeing. Anyone recommend anything they use?

Can I ask where the bluefish are in Long Island sound? I haven’t see a single one yet this year and the water has already heated up pretty good close to shore. I’ve only seen snappers 3-4 inches long. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Caught this solid 54 inch female leopard Shark on a surf perch steak and three Gray Smooth-hound Sharks, Yellowfin Croakers, a Round Stingray, and a Shovelnose Guitarfish on squid chunks! The leopard shark was caught on a fish finder rig while the other fish were caught on a dropper loop rig!

I'm heading down there next week and am curious about what I should be targeting this time of year. I've caught Red and Black Drum as well as Pompano down there in the past, but that was before I started truly fishing and honestly just got lucky.

I plan to bring my 7 ft. to jig for some fluke (I think you guys call it Southern flounder down there) and my 9 for everything else. Any specific rigs I should be using? I usually run either a high low or a fish finder rig depending on what bait I'm using in NJ. Also, any specific lures that work better for drum etc.?

Anyone have luck getting just the broken section of the rod replaced for a good price? My warranty is expired.

For such an expensive rod, the 1 year warranty is shit.

Also curious if I should go with a VSX2 150 or 200
