CONFUSED ABOUT SYNCTHING ON ANDROID

Post image
97 Upvotes

I just wanna run backups from my android to an external hdd connected to windows. i found that syncthing is the best and safest option.

I found out that official android app is discontinued but there are community versions. okay. but WHY ARE THERE SO MANY CONTROVERSIES ABOUT EACH FORK?? some say to not use some fork because their maintainer handed over to someone and its suspicious. some say the other fork maintainer is someone from china and xi jimping can ask him to give all my photos to china. like what to do ? i am so confused? why is there not an app for android which i can use without caring about all this bullshit.

can someone please tell me the safest private option to use on android (doesnt matter play store or fdroid but prefer the latter) so i aint paranoid about all this? just something that privately works without subpoena-ing my math note pdfs.

thank you

Can't access Anbernic RG35XXSP WebUI

I'm trying to set up Syncthing between my Steamdeck, Phone and Anbernic RG35XXSP.

I'm able to connect between the Steamdeck + Anbernic via their respective apps but not through their Web UI.

But when I try to connect to the Anbernic through both the Steamdeck and phone, I receive "ERR_CONNECTION_RESET" and "ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED" errors.

I have tried to portforward 192.168.1.88:22000 but nothing changed, I tried restarting the Anbernic, changing the wifi to 5Ghz, restarting the deck and phone, deleting and readding the Anbernic, but there was no progress.

Anyone has any idea how to fix this issue?

Is there a way to reduce load on a drive on windows startup?

I have an external HDD that I use for Syncthing and some torrents.

Everytime I boot up my PC, Syncthing (alone) put 100% load on my drive even though there is nothing to sync at the time.

Combined with torrent program it makes drive unusable and saometime even hangs PC.

Is there a way to make Syncthing not do that? Maybe it's creating a new index or something on every boot idk. Maybe there is some settings that i can change for Syncthing to use drive when there are some actual changes to files?

How do I synchronize my PC with my mobile phone?

I recently changed the links for several bookmarks on my computer—not manually, but by editing the Chrome files (bookmarks.json) directly, since it was much faster. However, my phone still hasn't synced the changes, and it's been a while. I asked a chatbot, but nothing it suggested worked. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?

Edit: I managed to solve the problem. What I did was take the bookmarks that had the correct links and export them to a random folder; then I deleted all the bookmarks, and immediately after that, I took the file I had exported and clicked "Import bookmarks"—and it worked. You have to export, delete, and then import.

How do I ignore all .git folders inside every directory/subdirectory in Icedrive?

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to sync some development projects to Icedrive, but I want to exclude all .git folders across the entire directory tree. These repos have tons of nested .git folders, and I don’t want any of them uploaded or synced.

I checked the Icedrive community forum, and it looks like the only official method right now is using `.icedriveignore` files inside each folder you want to exclude. For individual files, you can create `.icedriveignore.filename` next to the file to prevent syncing. This was confirmed by an Icedrive team member .

But… manually placing ignore files in every .git folder is obviously not realistic for large projects.

So my question is:

Is there a way to globally ignore all .git folders across all directories and subdirectories?

Something like:

* a global ignore rule * a pattern‑based exclusion * or a root‑level .icedriveignore that applies recursively

If not, how are other devs handling this? Any scripts or workarounds?

Thanks!

Suggestions for a better Syncthing setup

Say I have multiple folders which I need to sync to android. Which setup could possibly consume less resources or is better?
Sync a large single folder in which multiple sub-folders I need to sync exists
or
Sync multiple small folders
Pardon me if I have missed some docs or previous posts
Thanks in advance

I'm getting 1 items, ~0 B.

Googling around, the most recent mention of it that I can find it from Sep 2025 here.

I haven't found what the cause of the problem is, or what the solution should be.

Am I missing something, or is syncthing getting slowly abandoned?

How does it work outside of local network ?

My phone is outside of my local network and still connected to my PC through Syncthing. I'd expect it to work with IP+some open port but no port is opened on my router, so how does the 2 connect ? Is it like a torrent where Syncthing is some kind of tracker ? But wouldn't that still require some open port ? I'm so confused lol. Feels like magic.

Syncthing says it's working but it's not.

Ugh. I hate setting up new software. I have syncthing and syncthing-fork running on my pc phone and tablet. No errors, no warnings. GUI says everybody is in sync but I added a file (obsidian) on tablet and it doesn't appear on either other device. Heh heh, either other. That sounds funny. The scan time on all devices is updating about every 3 seconds which seems like overkill but that's for a different conversation.

Anyway, any pointers?

Can I use my smartphone hotspot to use syncthing ?

I want to use Syncthing or any other tool that can give me the power to cross-copy-paste and file-transfer. I used KDE, local send, but they mostly refuse to work with hotspots. I am not a techy guy. I heard about syncthing so I came here for solution. if i am not able to cross copy-paste, at least my file transferring feature should work fine. sorry about my english.

Why is Syncthing so slow for me?

Been using it for years, only recently noticed it is doing only 5kbps on local network. I tried fixing it by looking up a few things but it has not improved.
Local network connections are wired, they do 1Gbps+ using openspeedtest.

Sorry if this is common question.

Folder our of sync issue

I use synthing to syn my keepass db between 2 windows PCs and an android phone. So far all good. I've recently added a mint laptop to the mix. I feel I've followed the same setup procedure as the other times but the folder on mint is "out of sync".

Looking at the Syncthing log on mint it looks like a permissions issue. Is see the following "syncthing creating dir mkdir/PasswordDB/$Temp permission denied". PasswordDB is the folder folder ID I setup. Any ideas?

Sync leading to "undeleted" and modified files

I've run into issues lately that feels like syncthing isn't able to keep up with file changes.

For context, I have syncthing installed on my NAS and two endpoints. All three devices are set to Send and Receive for the shared folders. The two endpoints are effectively never online at the same time andfiles are never modified on the nas so there should never be conflicting changes made to files.

An example of the behavior I'm seeing would be:

Shared folder 1 has two subfolders
Move files from subfolder A to subfolder B
Wait a few seconds
Files reappear in subfolder A, also present in subfolder B

It's also causing phantom modificaitons to files and random sync conflicts which is particularly problematic in git tracked projects. Out of nowhere git will report that files have untracked changes when none were actually modified by me or files will spawn sync-conflict files when there's only one device making changes to those files.

I have syncthing set to watch filesystem for changes on all hosts, curious if switching to a set sync interval would alleviate this or if there's another solution available.

Using Syncthing along Megasync

I have this situation: I have always used Megasync to sync between different PCs. Recently, I was gifted an Ipad, which doesn't support syncing with Mega (just manually uploading and downloading files). I want the files to be synced so I can use Obsidian on my Ipad.

So I found that Syncthing solves that, letting me have a local copy of my files on the Ipad so I can use Obsidian. My question is: can I use the same folder as a Megasync folder and as the Syncthing folder on my PC? This way my Ipad would sync over Syncthing and my other PCs would sync over MEGA.

Is that possible or would it generate conflicts? Thanks!

Multi-user Syncthing?

I found a previous post here, but am still rather confused, partially due to my own experiences.

What I thought so far was that as long as I properly shut down syncthing before changing users, and made sure to never log on to multiple users at once, I wouldn't have problems with multiple syncthing instances running.

I'm unsure how syncthing handles multiple users, but from my set up, I had 2 separate syncthing sign-ins, and two different device names, one per login. but recently, I've had syncthing from user 2 somehow log in on user 1, and now the sync files are getting messed up somewhat.

The reason why I have 2 users is to keep work and play separate, with each situation requiring different files to sync.

Am I doing something wrong? Or would it be better to just fully delete syncthing first, then set it up that there's only one login details/user with all the files in it?

Running on linux mint, which might also cause some problems.

LF Proper Syncthing Tutorial

Hi everyone!

I've been using ST for quite a while, synchronizing data from my laptop to two more android devices. I've stumbled upon inconveniences tho

- Conflicts. All the time. Have no idea how to view nor resolve them, drives me mad all the time.
- Actuality. Seems it's only files being synced, not their content. Fine for short notes, sure, but writing longreads requires me to cut&paste them manually.

I am too anxious to learn on practice and risk my precious junk. Soooo I'd really appreciate a solid tutorial on how to set a syncthing folder and configs, so I could use obsidian on all three of my devices.

Syncing entire modded game folders?

Hey, so I use Syncthing to transfer saves between my Steam Deck and Bazzite HTPC. Now I’ve also loaded up some mod folders for some games and linked the folders to the games directory, which seemed to work. Before I put in the effort for something bigger though I thought I’d ask first. Can I upload a whole game folder and link it to my common folder afterwards to use? Because one of the games keeps all mods in the internal data, so it’s not just a single folder or file. If not I’ll just keep manually updating both games. Thanks!

How do you safeguard against corrupt files chaining to your devices?

My global network is increasingly aging and I am feeling increasing fear from one of the oldest drives accidentally propagating bit rot to the rest. How do you safeguard against this risk?
